Carlos Quentin to CHW, Chris Carter to AZ

Quentin was a name mentioned early on as a the potential LF solution. Carter put up a 906 OPS at Kannapolis as a 20 yr old, which is nothing to sneeze at, I suppose. Like trading something a little less than Taylor Green, in my estimation.

Worth it? Flipping an unknown 20 yr old mid-round pick for a guy who has already made it to the show? Good move for the Sox is my gut reaction without knowing anything specific on Carter.

Wait - Ken Williams knows this guy actually has carried a pretty good OBP thus far, right? Maybe they feel his shoulder trouble will help bring that to an Ozzie Guillen-accepted level.

This trade initially confused the bejeezus out of me because the Diamondbacks already had a decent prospect named Chris Carter. (In August they traded him to the Nationals, who traded him to the Red Sox for Wily Mo Pena.)

And then I thought about it, and everything was ok.

I was really hoping to send Arizona a pitcher for Quentin, perhaps I was over-valuing him. Carter is a decent prospect, but either I am undervaluing him or Arizona got a poor return for a guy that I think will still be an above average corner OF beginning sometime next year.

Carter was easily one of the most impressive hitters in the sally league this year...he took jeffress deep in his debut...

he's a long way away, but if we had someone like him, i would be dissapointed we made this deal...

Quentin has no options left, and he's hard to judge because his AAA stats are Tucson aided. At first glance, I like the deal for the D'Backs. Carter would seem to be a grade A 1B prospect.
