I Live Milwaukee Brewers Baseball to the point that I named my son after Cecil Cooper. I'm trying to collect every Brewer Autogreapg EVER. As soon as the team go Jason Kendall I bought a group of autographed card from a Favortite EBay seller that had Kedall in it. I wore my Game Used jamie Navarro Jersey to work today. I wear a Brewer Braclet Am I sick, dulusional or just the WORST SPELLER EVER!!!! HELP!!!!!

You sound a lot like me nbo haha. I have baseball or Brewers stuff plastering almost every inch of my walls in my room, I have Brewers floor mats in my car, I think about the Brewers 24/7 and as you are, I'm trying to get an autograph of every Brewer player in history even if it was merely for 1 out. How many autographs are you at? I'm currently at 151 different Brewers autographs. I also have gotten ahead start on autographs of Randy Choate, Mota, Munson, Riske for when they play for us and get added to the all time Brewer alum list http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

I have a Ben Sheets autograph from like 5 years ago. Ya'll are weird.

 

I do, however have a Favre autograph I got his first year in Green Bay. I was at the Packers fanfest thing, and towards the end of the autograph sessions, I decided to pick the shortest line, and just so happened it was Brett Favre's line. Looked like a kid, was happy to sign it, even did the #4. The neat thing about this ball is that he signed a different part of the ball than the other guys... Greg Bell, Walter Dean, Steve Avery and Marcus Wilson have their own little area. Hah.

 

Edit: I had a Neugebauer batting practice jersey, which was a prize here on Brewerfan a while back. I still have my Steve Woodard jersey, and I refuse to get another jersey until there is a pitcher I want to be suck. Or if they go on sale also.

Switch from internet explorer to Firefox. It has MS-Word style spellchecker, which is sweet. It just underlined "spellchecker" in red as a typed this.

yes, Vina had excellent penmanship, very crisp and clear sig, I have his and most of the brewers from his day.

From my childhood I picked up Cirillo, Vina, Nilsson, Grissom, Cooper, D'Amico and Matheney. Participating in the "Major League Moment" was the highlight, although I was "stuck" with Marquis Grissom when I was hoping to get Burnitz or Jenkins. Dave Nilsson was from the batboy contest, I was about 10 at the time and I just remember how amazingly tall he was. Like many here, I have my collection of posters, pennants, pictures, bobbleheads, ticket stubs, etc. However, I prefer to spend my money on tickets, so I acquired most everything at giveaways or as gifts. Craig Wilson also threw me a baseball :-)

 

Random sidenote: Does anyone remember those fan reward cards that you could swipe for rewards the last year at County Stadium? I still have the card, and the free Brewers window sticker that we got for going to 10 or so games.

Yeah I got to meet Robin Yount and Dale Svuem at Faith Bible Church when I was little...under 10.....me and my bro took a picture with him and him and Svuem signed my baseball glove and my %$@#$++ still used it......I do have a 1983 yearbook that was given to me by my aunt that has a ton of autographs, Ganter, Yount, Cooper, Sutton, pretty much all the big names except Molitor....he was probably sniffin so my aunt didn't see him when she was getting the 'graphs

Serious question: what is the appeal of autographs? I love the team, but I haven't been into autographs since I was a kid. I'm not knocking it, God knows everyone's got different interests, but I'm just wondering

I doesn't really interest me anymore either. When I was a kid I got those autographs, I watched them all the time and was kind of star struck but yeah I haven't really been into autographs since I was like 12.

I have Hundreds of Different Autographed Brewer Cards. I have so many that I'm not even sure how many different Brewer players I have.

I was in Milwaukee in early 2004 and bought a Baseball Card Company Card (Upper Deck) signed by Prince Fielder for $100. It was the first one of Prince out. That card is still listed OVER $100. Not that I'd ever get rid of it anyway.

I think the appeal of autographs is the ownership of some permanent connection to a person or place. I like those early Brewers teams, and like to collect things that remind me of those days.

Admittedly, there's a bit of weirdness in approaching a guy and asking for an autograph, especially if he's your age or younger. I prefer going to shows where signers are there specifically for the purpose of signing. You pay money, and they sign. I got Bob Gibson's (Cardinals ace, not Brewers spot starter) autograph on an 8x10 photo this weekend at a show in New Jersey.

As for collecting in general, there's always the thrill of the chase. You want to complete a set or work down a checklist.

Maybe a little OCD, but as long as you keep things in perspective, it's a fairly harmless outlet.

I have an signed pic of Dick Trickle's #99 Pabst asa car. My Dad had met him some time in the pits at some random track. He remembered

my Dad and said to say hi for him. Great memory.

I once had Dave Blaney sign a baby's bib for my godson. He Laughed, and so did I.

These guys are two of my childhood idols.

 

I don't think its weird (or wierd for that matter) to want a connection to the past

It's just my hobby, it's my fun really. I just enjoy the challenge of getting as many different guys as possible. I'm in it for the challenge and fun of it, I never would do it for selling at all. JimH5 I don't have a Machado, Pena or Frisella.

Honestly, to get a piece of random fan mail, with a request that actually requires him to do something, with no benefit to himself, and then to mail the cards back. . .

 

You hear about guys who sign by mail all the time, and I'm always a little uplifted when you hear that they respond.

 

And congrats, CBC on all your sigs. That's an impressive total.

Thanks Jim. That's why I only mail to retired players homes that I see have signed for other people, current players I either get in person or at least send to the stadium during the season. When you send you also include a self addressed stamped envelope so all they do is sign the card(s), slip them in your sase and put them in the mail with no cost to them for postage or anything.
