Final: Pawtucket (Red Sox) 6, Indianapolis 5 From MassBrew - I'm punishing myself with Brewer-related audio today; Indy's offense has completely stagnated after some early gifts from the PawSox; a critical Joe Lawrence error at 2B in the 8th cost the Tribe the lead; the PawSox announcers described Cecil Cooper as "walking death" when he slowly trekked to the mound following the Lawrence error; LHP Nate Teut pitched well after Jayson Durocher's scoreless opening inning; the PawSox were forced to go with a "bullpen game" when Ryan Rupe injured his groin in warmups, all the more frustrating that Indy can't take advantage; Jim Rushford K's as a PH in the 8th... EDIT: as you can now see, it's now a final; bad, bad loss, just no excuse for this one given the early inning circumstances - MB... It's all about leverage really... easy to see that the college kids don't have the option to go back into college. Someone like Tom Wilhelmsen, who's got great stuff (and IMO was a bargain at 250k), could have probably gone onto college, refined his stuff, and gotten more. -

I just gotta say, it's fabulous to see Ben back in the saddle again. Even though it was reported to be a minor injury, there's always a sigh of relief when the name is back in the Box Score. And yeah Jim, that team is LOADED. In all my years following the Brewer minor leagues, I don't ever remember seeing a single team that loaded with prospects. The three K's were good (Krause, Kinkade and Klassen), but this team has batting AND pitching. -

West Michigan (Tigers) 5, Beloit 0 Game Summary from the West Michigan Site: COMSTOCK PARK, MI - Jon Connolly was able to contain Prince Fielder and the Beloit Snappers Thursday night to get his team back to the .500 mark and give the West Michigan Whitecaps their first shutout victory of the season 5-0. Connolly (5-0) became the second pitcher in the Midwest League to win five games and the first 'Caps pitcher to win his first five decisions since Calvin Chipperfield in 2000. The 19-year-old lefthander pitched seven shutout innings giving up just three hits and striking out eight batters. The offense got rolling in the bottom of the second for the 'Caps when Victor Mendez lined a double for his team-leading 24th RBI. Wilton Reynolds just missed his fourth home run in the bottom of the fifth bouncing it off the left-centerfield wall for his fourth triple of the year and scoring the second run of the inning. The 'Caps would get two more runs in the sixth inning and that would be all they needed as the 'Caps bullpen was able to hold the Snappers in the eighth and ninth inning. After losing the first two games of the series, the 'Caps were able to earn a split in the four-game series with Thursday evening's victory. Beloit Box Score: RHP Luis Pena walks six in four innings, kind of the opposite of his initial outing when he was hit hard with good control; OF Mario Mendez pitches for the second time this season... Norfolk 7 (Mets), Indianapolis 6 (11 innings) - Dave Burba got hit a bit on the mound, but went 2-2 for 3 RBI. - Jason Childers induces a game-saving double play with the bases juiced and 1 out in the bottom of the 9th. - Game ends on an error by Pete Zoccolillo, allowing Esix Snead to score from 3rd. To be fair, Pete Z was put in the game as a pinch-hitter while having the flu. Indy Site Game Summary: The Norfolk Tides scored an unearned run in the bottom of the 11th inning Thursday afternoon to defeat the Indianapolis Indians 7-6. The Indians (12-20) finish the eight-game road trip with four wins, including a split of the four-game set with the Tides. Esix Snead drew a one-out walk from Jason Childers (1-2) in the 11th. Snead got into scoring position by swiping his 11th base of the season. Marco Scutaro drove a single into left sending Snead to third, and Snead continued home with the winning run when Tribe left fielder Pete Zoccolillo bobbled the ball in the field. The Tribe's longest game of the year, both in terms of innings and time (3:24), featured four lead changes and three ties. Both teams loaded the bases with one out in the ninth inning, but couldn't score. After Norfolk took a 3-0 lead in the first, the Tribe roared back with four runs in the second to take their first lead in the contest. Mark Smith led off with a single extending his hitting streak to a team-high 10 games. After Scott Seabol singled and Joe Lawrence walked to load the bases, Steve Scarborough drew a walk to force in the first run. Tribe pitcher Dave Burba delivered a bases-clearing double to give the Indians the lead. Burba, who was making his Indians debut, singled and scored in the fifth as the Indians took a 5-4 lead. Indianapolis rallied to tie the game at 6 with a run in the eighth when Jason Conti drew a one-out walk and came around to score on a two-out single by Seabol. Scutaro, the Indians MVP in 2001, paced the Tides with a 3-for-4 day and three runs scored offensively, and three spectacular plays defensively. The second base led off the first inning with a single and scored Norfolk's first run. He doubled and scored in the second as the Tides tied the score at 4. Scutaro gave Norfolk a 6-5 lead in the seventh when he was hit by a pitch leading off the inning, went to second on a sacrifice, stole third and scored on a single that got past a drawn-in infield. In the field, Scutaro started two double plays including one on which he flipped the ball with his glove to the shortstop covering second in time to get Joe Lawrence who had been running on the pitch. Scutaro also made a diving stop of a ball off the bat of Jason Conti leading off the 10th inning. Both teams had a chance to win the game in the ninth. The Indians got a one-out double by Wilton Veras before back-to-back walks loaded the bases. Keith Luuloa grounded into a force out, and Pedro Feliciano (3-1) struck out Bill Hall to end the inning. In the bottom of the inning, Snead led off with a double and was sacrificed to third by Scutaro before the Indians opted to intentionally walk the next two men to set up a force out at every base. Childers enduced former Indian Lyle Mouton to ground into a double play to end the threat and force extra innings. The Indians open an eight-game homestand against Buffalo Friday at Victory Field. The Bisons (19-11) bring the best record in the International League to Indianapolis. Indianapolis Box Score: If you're wondering, Marcos Scutaro's hitting .289 for Norfolk -- if he could play SS regularly, he might not be a AAAA player... Indianapolis 11, Norfolk (Mets) 3 Indy Site Game Summary: NORFOLK, VA -- The Indianapolis Indians' (11-19) bats came through in a big way on Tuesday night, pounding out a season-high 17 hits and 11 runs in defeating the Norfolk Tides (17-12) 11-2. Francisco Campos (2-3) scattered seven hits over 7.0 innings to earn the victory for the Tribe, as six Indians batters including Campos had two hits in the game. Bill Hall, Joe Lawrence, and Wilton Veras each went 3-for-5 for the Indians, as each also scored two runs. The Tribe offense threatened in the top of the first inning, jumped on the board in the second, broke the game open in the fifth, and kept the momentum going from there as the team had at least one hit in each of the first eight innings. Jason Conti doubled with two outs in first inning, but the Indians were turned away when Conti was gunned down attempting to score on Scott Seabol's single to left. Norfolk starter Pat Strange (3-1) was not as lucky in the top of the second, however, as the Indians jumped on the righthander for three runs off of five hits in the inning. With one out, Cody McKay, Lawrence, and Veras hit consecutive singles to load the bases for Campos, who helped himself by hitting a single to centerfield scoring McKay. Mark Budzinski followed with a sacrifice fly to center to score Lawrence, and then Hall singled to center to score Veras and give the Indians an early 3-0 lead. The score remained 3-0 until the bottom of the fourth inning when Norfolk catcher Joe Depastino launched a moonshot over the leftfield wall for a solo home run off of Campos. From that point, it was nearly all Indians, as the Tribe limited the Tides to only two more runs, both solo homers off the bat of Jorge Valendia while the Indians put runs on the board in the fifth, sixth, seventh, and eighth innings. The Indians then broke the game wide open in the top of the fifth inning plating four runs on three hits and one error while chasing Strange from the game after only 4.1 innings having allowed 11 hits and seven runs, five earned. Conti led off the frame with a walk, stole second base on a pickoff attempt by Strange, and stole third base on Pete Zoccolillo's one out walk. After a groundball off the bat of McKay was booted at shortstop allowing Conti to score and Zoccolillo to move to second. After Lawrence singled to load the bases, Veras' single scored Zoccolillo and McKay. Veras later scored on a passed ball which made the score 7-1. Zoccolillo doubled home Hall in the sixth inning, Lawrence scored on a Campos double play groundout in the seventh, and Conti hit a two-run home run in the eighth which scored himself and Hall to round out the Indians scoring. Shane Nance pitched the final two innings for Indianapolis, allowing three hits and one run. The two teams will play the third game of the four-game series on Wednesday night with David Manning (1-0, 2.50) facing Norfolk's Mike Bacsik (0-2, 6.63). The Indians return home on Friday night to face the Buffalo Bisons for a four-game series which includes a fireworks night on Saturday. Indianapolis 4, Richmond (Braves) 2 Indy Site Game Summary: RICHMOND, VA. -- Pete Zoccolillo and Keith Luuloa collected five of the Indianapolis Indians' nine hits Sunday afternoon to lead the Indians to a 4-2 win over the Richmond Braves. The victory gave the Indians (10-18) a split of the four-game series as they head to Norfolk to start a four-game set Monday. Zoccolillo led off the second inning with a double and went to third on Luuloa's one-out single. Zoccolillo scored the game's first run when Wilton Veras lofted a sacrifice fly to right. The Indians stretched the lead to 3-0 when Zoccolillo and Luuloa both scored in the fourth inning. With one out, Zoccolillo singled to center. One out later, Luuloa sliced a double into the right field corner driving home Zoccolillo. Pitcher Pascual Coco drove home Luuloa with a bloop single into left-center, the first base hit for Coco in his nine-year career. Coco (2-4) turned in his third consecutive strong outing on the mound. The righthander gave up four hits in the first three innings, but settled down to retire 11 straight Braves from the end of the third through the sixth. The Braves ran themselves out of a big inning in the second. Travis Wilson, who led off with a single, was gunned down at the plate with nobody out on a double by Jesse Garcia. On the next pitch, Garcia was thrown out at third attempting to steal. In six starts, Coco has recorded a 3.82 ERA over the first six innings. He reached the seventh for the second time Sunday, and struggled for the second time as Richmond plated both of their runs. The first four batters reached on three singles and a hit batsmen. A sacrifice fly by Nick Green cut the Tribe's lead to 3-2. Shane Nance, making his first appearance with the Indians since being sent down from Milwaukee Thursday, took over with two on and one out and struck out the next two hitters to preserve the lead. "Nance saved the day," Indians pitching coach Mike Caldwell said. "He was fantastic and shows why we need a lefthander in the bullpen." The Indians played the first 27 games of the season without a lefthander on the pitching staff before Nance's outing Sunday. Luuloa's third hit of the afternoon helped the Tribe add an insurance run in the ninth. The Hawaii native singled to open the inning, then came around to score for the second time on a pinch-hit triple by Scott Seabol. Roberto Giron earned his fourth save pitching the ninth. He retired the first two men easily, but a walk and a hit batsman put the potential tying and winning runs on base. Giron got pinch hitter Mike Hubbard to pop out to end the game. Lansing (Cubs) 3, Beloit 2 LansingLugnuts.com site summary LANSING - Lansing shortstop Buck Coats, whose extra-inning, RBI single won a game for the Lugnuts on Tuesday at Oldsmobile Park, repeated the feat on Friday, lining a single to center field to score Felix Pie and beat the Beloit Snappers 3-2 in 10 innings. Before a season-high 5,985 fans who clamored to the park to get Corey Patterson bobblehead dolls, the Lugnuts' pitching staff surrendered only two hits over 10 innings. Starter Carlos Vasquez pitched 7 1/3 innings, the longest start for a Lugnut this year, fanning eight Snappers and allowing two hits. Beloit scored its first run in the second inning, when Prince Fielder tagged and scored on a sacrifice fly by left fielder Nic Carter. A throwing error by Lansing third baseman Milo Salas led to another run - unearned to Vasquez - in the third. But a night after Beloit's stunning come-from-behind win, it was Lansing's turn to roar back. The Lugnuts hung two runs on starter Manny Parra in the seventh, when J.J. Johnson scored Jason Fransz on a groundout and Salas, gaining redemption for his error, singled and scored on a hit by Jose Reyes. Unlike Thursday, when the Lansing bullpen crumbled, it hung tough in the late innings Friday. Righty Weston O'Brien entered in a difficult circumstance in the eighth, with runners at first and second and one out. But the batter, Callix Crabbe, hit a line drive to second baseman Ryan Theriot, who caught the ball and stepped on second to complete the unassisted double play. O'Brien pitched 1 2/3 innings of scoreless ball. Lefty Mark Carter entered in the 10th and struck out the side in order, leaving the door open for his third win of the season. The Lugnuts gave him that win, as Pie walked to lead off the inning. Theriot sacrificed him to second and Coats, the next hitter, delivered his second game-winner in four days. Lansing, now 3-0 in extra-inning games, will play the third game of the series Saturday night as lefty Justin Jones (1-1) takes the hill. Inland Empire 8, High Desert 1 High Desert Site Game Summary: ADELANTO, CA ? Cha Seung Baek pitched five shutout innings as the Inland Empire 66ers of San Bernardino dropped the Mavs for a second straight night, winning by a final score of 8-1 at Mavericks Stadium on Thursday night. Baek (2-1), who worked five shutout innings in his last start against Rancho Cucamonga, allowed just two base runners, in winning his second straight decision. Scott Candelaria reached on an error by third baseman Hunter Brown in the second, and Johnny Raburn singled in the third. That was it off of Baek, who struck out two and didn?t walk a man. The 66ers got more than they needed just three pitches into the game. After Shin-Soo Choo doubled on the game?s opening pitch, Evel Bastida went deep to right off Danny Kolb for a 2-0 lead. A home run by Luis Oliveros in the second, his second of the year, made it 3-0 after just two innings. Inland Empire added four more in the third highlighted by a Greg Jacobs home run, his second of the season. Kolb lasted just four innings, allowing seven earned runs on nine hits. Tony Stavros came on in the fifth and was outstanding, allowing just one run as he went the final five innings. The Mavs, who have not been shut out at home since becoming a Brewer affiliate in 2001, broke up the potential shutout with a run in the eighth. Dan Boyd struck out, but reached first on a wild pitch. After Raburn collected his second hit of the night, Boyd scored on a Todd West ground out to make it 8-1. Glenn Bott, who allowed the run in the eighth, still collected his first save of the year, with four innings of work. Raburn finished the night 3-3 as the Mavs finished with a season-low four hits, this coming two nights after collecting a season-best 17 hits. Kade Johnson, who could have tied the Mavericks team record with a 19-game hitting streak, went 0-4, failing to extend his Minor League best 18-game hitting streak. The Mavs travel to Lake Elsinore on Friday to battle the Storm as LHP Pete Smart (1-2) takes the hill for the Mavs at 7:05 (9:05 Central). The Mavs return home on Friday, May 2nd. DJ Clark is playing UNCONSCIOUS baseball right now. Whatever he was doing wrong in High Desert, he's certainly doing right this year. With Christian Guerrero, and to a lesser extent, Ryan Knox scuffling at AA, it has to be edvident that DJ will be the first Mav moved up this year. Guerrero will probably be given a starting corner OF job over Knox because of his last name. DJ also only has only 1 error. khttp://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/tongue.gif b ratio is about even. I'm becoming a believer.
