  1. Villar getting the day off today, at least early on. Franklin starting at 2B.
  2. Jonathan Villar was servicable at SS and quite a player the way he hit last year. Right now he is struggling heavily with some of the different ways he has to turn DPs and throw in general at 2B that he didn't really do at SS. He racked up quite a few errors, but he had the range/arm to make up for a lot of it. Villar's defense lapses can't be explained by a weird throwing angle to first when most of his errors have come from just flat-out dropping the baseball. Lackadaisical play, mainly; it's like he's trying to emulate Robinson Cano sometimes. This sort of nonchalant style of play that only a few players could pull off.
  3. Tomorrow, Pittsburgh's GM could offer us Tyler Glasnow, Mitch Keller, and Austin Meadows for Arcia. Would you seriously pass up three Top 100 prospects because "Arcia is our shortstop" instead of deciding to bolster the system even more and making one of Villar, Perez, Cordell, Rivera, or Orf work? There are always options, and nothing is ever certain in baseball. I would also like to say that I wouldn't turn down someone wanting to give me $10,000,000.00 for my house. It would be cool if we could've traded Scooter for Kris Bryant and Javy Baez. Maybe toss in someone like Suter for Arrieta.
  4. I agree with this. Good year for some growing pains, just as long as those growing pains aren't a result from a lack of focus (I've never thought Arcia had a problem with that).
  5. Seems like Donaldson barks at a lot of people.
  6. I agree; but, umps are different heights and see strike zones at different angles and with varying vision. In a perfect world, the strike zone should be the same across the board. I like a little variation from umpire to umpire, but not variation within the zone of an umpire.
  7. I saw some video recently of Greg Maddux pitching and was lol'ing at some of the calls he'd get. I didn't realize how wide the zones were, especially for him. Even at the time people complained how wide they are. I think umpires do a pretty good job behind home plate. Usually my frustrations come when they're not consistent throughout a game. I know accurate pitchers can expand corners but the inconsistency is what drives me nuts.
  8. Arcia had a good pitch to hit there, too. Crap.
  9. That looked like a frisbee going in there to Bautista.
  10. Braun should be at 3rd there. Oh well. *Eh, maybe Martin woulda been there covering. Doesn't much matter in the grand scheme of things.
  11. That was a good pitch that Braun took for ball four. Clearly a ball, but a pitch a lot of people are going to swing at and do very little with.
  12. Thought he was safe when I first saw it. Did Pillar's foot come up over the bag rather than touch the base? If so, he's out. Hard to overturn this but I'm wrong approximately 70% of the time with replay so..
  13. Tulo has hit 3 Wily fastballs on 2-strike counts, two of them on 0-2, and has 3 RBI. TRY SOMETHING ELSE!
  14. He could have easily thrown the ball away, too. His momentum was taking him in, it would have been really close to stop, spin and throw to 2nd. Glad he just got the out.
  15. Thank goodness Broxton is so fast and got a good job there.
  16. Peralta got nasty after that mistake to Tulo, also think he got away with a hanging slider to Martin but nice work limiting the damage.
  17. I like special day uniforms, too, but don't really like any of the Brewers' this year.
  18. Looks like it should be pretty close to 6:30 CT start. Maybe a minute earlier. On that.
  19. Cubs have any arms in the minors that are ready? It's a gamble to sign Arietta (as it is with all pitching) but might be their best option if they can get him for like 4 years. I bet he will want more years though, and why wouldn't you..
