  1. I would love it because he would make a great platoon partner with Gross/Jenkins. Above and beyond that I would be excited about his versatility. He would give us a backup at 1st base and a utility catcher. Craig Wilson, Kenny Lofton, Aubery Huff, Rod Barajas, Greg Zaun are really the only names on the FA market that entice me a little. (At least on the offensive side, havent looked at what pitchers are out there)
  2. Just an FYI, rotoworld.com is reporting that with the Orioles missing out on Lee, they MAY revisit the Lopez/Mench deal.
  3. Already being discussed in anther thread.
  4. Uhm.....WOW. Call em quick Dougie and get it done. Seriousally though there would have to be a relatively big prospect the Brewers would have to through in to get Jennings. Brady and Jackson? Would he cost more?
  5. Can we post Bennie Sheets. He should bring in at least 75 million. Then we can sign Zito and Soriano. (Sadly the ability to use blue type alludes me)
  6. His value would probably be less than the Brian Wolfe we traded for him, due to the major injury concerns. Keep him his value as a backup is greater than anything we could get in return for him. That being said if he is going to get his option gaurenteed, i believe X amount of AB's would have gaurenteed it, then yes you try and dump him. Next year having him on the roster at 6.5 (?) mill would be detrimental to the Brewers.
  7. The way I see it is if we were able to pull of a trade for Lopez, our pitching staff would look like this: Bennie Sheets Chris Capuano David Bush Rodrigo Lopez Carlos Villenueva If Lopez is aquired, or another similar pitcher Davis would be moved as part of a deal for a CF/LF/Bullepen man. Yes then Lopez would be in our rotation, and the possibilites are quite high that he fails. What happens then? I would assume Gallardo would be the fallback plan for the 4/5 spot in the rotation. I wouldn't be to dissapointed with that. Also, it is much easier to dumb a bad pitcher and his contract than a bad outfielder (Kevin Mench). On a side note I don't think Kevin is horrible I just don't think he has a spot on the roster next year.
  8. The way I see it is if anyone would like to take on Clark and his 3.8 million this year let 'em have him. I think the best we could expect in return would be a player equal to Brian Wolfe (??? the player we traded for Koskie) It is not that I hate Clark but that money could be used to bring a quality reliever, Jamie Walker
  9. msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/6168854 Link to an article about the Brewers/Orioles rumored trade. The rumor is Kevin Mench for Rodrigo Lopez. Also talks about how the Brewers would like to stockpile some arms the take offers on Dougie Davis. I would love a Mench for Lopez trade, we need to get rid of an outfielder or two and being able to pick up an arm with upside would be nice. edit: Also says that Baltimore has interest in Jenkins, so for those of you looking to dump his contract there might be some interest out there.
  10. ColbyJack that is a great point about the compensatory pick. I may like Roberts a little bit but, not a 5+ mill and giving up a 2nd round pick.
  11. Rotoworld.com has a nice article on Free Agents, the only one they predicted going to the Brewers was Dave Roberts. Dave Roberts at an astounding 3 yr. 16mill. I was in favor of signing Roberts but not at that price.
  12. I would think that a guy like Lopez would end up being a perfect target, if the Brewers think he could go to the pen. I wouldn't mind having Lopez as our 6th starter. Trade them Kevin Mench, we get rid of one player most of us don't want around, and gain an arm with a bit of potential.
  13. Too Live Brew, We did not get Miller in the Sexson deal, he was signed as a FA. We got Chad Moeller.
  14. www.topprospectalert.com/top100baseballprospects.htm Found a top 100 ranking of prospects Yo is 16, Braun 22, Rogers 56. They also have a pretty interesting Brewers top 10 Lorenzo Cain, Alscadies Escobar, Cole Gillespie, and Matt Gamel are all in there.
  15. I too, would love to have Vernon Wells, but I think that it would cost a bit more to get him in a trade and to sign him long term. Vernon Wells for JJ Hardy Mark Rogers I think that might be enought to entice them. MAYBE. Vernon says that he wants a 7 yr 119 million dollar deal, so he won't sign for 5 yr 62.5. If we would trade for him and tore up his deal for this year he might be willing to sign for 7 yr 100 mill. But what about trading Billy Hall for Vernon Wells and Dustin McGowan? Would you do it? Would they do it?
  16. If we are looking at the mid/lower tier pitchers, the one I would go after would be Gil Meche. I think recently someone posted a link to an article saying that Padilla wanted 9+ mill per. I would hope that Meche would be less than that, much less.
  17. If pollsters were asking you who you are voting for that is very innappropriate. I went door to door for Fair Wisconsin this weekend and they made certain that we never asked how anyone was voting, just that hey this is our cause. Do you have any questions about the ramifications of a yes vote, and the ramifications of a no vote. I kind of am shocked that people were/are asking you how you are voting. Boo to them.
  18. I would think that he would cost a LOT more than just Davis. Maybe they MIGHT contemplate Davis and Rogers for Young but even then I doubt it. I remeber seeing Chris Young as a top 15 prospect in the minors before this season. You don't trade a player like that away after 70 below average AB's.
  19. I think that Lugo, Matthews, Wolf and Roberts will get what trwi7 stated. Not that the production meets to pay but teams have money to spend. Matthews and Roberts to intrigue me a bit. Matthews especially, but probably not at that much money.
  20. Ok, well I have been wanting to give this a shot for a while so here goes. 1 - *Gary Matthews Jr. CF 11.00 2 - Rickie Weeks 2nd .50 3 - Prince Fielder 1st .33 4 - Billy Hall 3rd 4.2 5 - Corey Hart RF .33 6 - Gabe Gross LF .35 7 - JJ Hardy SS .33 8 - Damien Miller C 2.5 Bench Mike Rivera .33 Tony Gwynn Jr. .33 Yohannis Perez .33 Corey Koskie 2.0 Brady Clark 3.8 Starting Rotation 1 - Bennie Sheets 10 2 - Chris Capuano 4 3 - David Bush .352 4 - Doug Davis 5.5 5 - Carlos Villenueva .327 Bullpen Dennis Sarfate .38 Matt Wise 1 Brian Shouse 1.25 Derrick Turnbow 2.3 **Armando Benitez 7 Jose Cappellan .33 Fransisco Cordero 5.5 * Sign Gary Matthew Jr. 3 yr. 29 million (Year 1 - 11 million, year 2 - 9.5 million, year 3 - 8.5 million) with a team option for a 4th yeary @ 9 million ** TRADE Geoff Jenkins for Armando Benitez, similar contracts, the Giants need 2 corner outfielders ***Kevin Mench trade him for whatever you can, just get rid of that money TOTAL $64,269,000 Now I am not completely sold on Gary Matthews Jr. I just am infatuated with trying to get a Gold Glove caliber outfielder in CF. I do also think that of all of the Free Agents Matthews is one that we could have a shot at, being 31 and never getting a huge contract I would assume that he would stricktly go to the highest bidder. What I really like about this is that it gives JJ Hardy one more chance. If Hardy can't hack it at SS, then move Billy Hall from 3rd to SS, and bring up Ryan Braun. If Hardy proves that he is the real deal, a prototypical #2 hitter, then keep him there. Keep Billy Hall at 3rd. Move Ryan Braun to LF, or trade him. 1 - Gary Matthew Jr. CF 2 - JJ Hardy SS 3 - Prince Fielder 1st 4 - Billy Hall 3rd 5 - Corey Hart RF 6 - Rickie Weeks 2nd 7 - Ryan Braun LF 8 - Damien Miller C IF, and I am saying IF, everything works out perfectly that is a pretty intimidating lineup. There may not be a true basestealer but there are multiple guys who can/should stear 15-20. There is some nice power potential. I like it.
  21. I actually seem to remember Jose saying that he liked pitching relief better than starting. Something about liking to get out there more often not having the down time. Not totally certain but pretty sure milwaukeebrewers.com had an article about that.
  22. Heck, he probably would be defensive upgrade over Carlos Lee/ Kevin Mench. (kidding by the way, only partially)
  23. What no Yohannis Perez?
  24. I have almost no hopes or expectations for Yo2, but it is nice to have an owner/management that is willing to take a couple high risk/high reward gambles.
  25. I am going retirement... I don't think that any team will offer him a "fair" price in his mind so he will have to walk away or go back to San Fran for pennies on the dollar.
