  1. I'm terrible. Not only do I jump from the back of a line, I seek out cashiers opening up. It actually makes me smile just a little when I look back and see a person I skipped shaking their head at me.
  2. When I saw this, it just put a big smile on my face. Love him.
  3. That sound super frusturating hawing. Sorry you have to deal with it. Families can be kooky around the holidays. My aunt called her granddaughter to tell her she just saw Santa and he would be going to her house soon. (She still tells me this and I'm 26.) And her daughter flipped out on her, making her cry, because she decided she doesn't want her 3 or 4year old to think he's real. Was that necessary to do right now?
  4. The Red Sox payroll is easily over 100 million. How is that not large? Anyway, here's an interesting take on the signing. I love that he argues for a salary floor. What I don't find fair is how there are owners that are worth millions more than Steinbrenner yet invest millions less in their team.
  5. For sure Rodriguez is better at 3rd than Jeter at short. He's below average, and some would say he's the worst shortstop in the majors. Either way it's clear he's declining. If he moves (which is 'if' because he's a stubborn sonofabitch) I would think it would be to the outfield because even though he not as fast as he used to be, he still has a great arm and good eye. Also, some would argue that it would be more beneficial to have a strong bat clogging up first.
  6. Oh, I'm so jealous! Mario Kart is super fun. For Wii, I really like their gun games like Alien Syndrome (I think). Remember arcade games that you would have to shoot a gun to kill aliens, cowboys, etc.? Well those type of games work really well on the Wii. I'm not a fan of hunting, so I haven't tried those games but I'm sure they're similar. Also I'm a big fan of SSX, so I'd love to try Shaun White's game. BTW, I'm not a gamer by any means.
  7. Brian Cashman said it's not true. This is the first time I'm hearing about this move. No way I believe it. If they're moving anyone to first, it'd be Jeter. But then again, he probably wouldn't agree to it...
  8. It is embarrassing how a major city can shut down because of a couple inches of snow. Portland, OR is just not equipped to handle this weather. I have seen one plow in 3 days. Nothing is plowed and the sidewalks aren't shoveled. Thank goodness I have some money because the banks have been closed for days. Flights have been canceled, and my poor boyfriend has been at the airport all day. Hopefully he'll at least be able to get to the Chicago area today. Yesterday I pushed a girl in a snowbank. I'm not usually a vindicative witch but this girl deserved it. I was walking on the sidewalk, which was not shoved just matted down because of the foot traffic. I see her coming, with an umbrella for the snow nonetheless, so I moved to the left a little expecting she would move to her left a little so we both didn't have to walk in much snow. Well princess didn't move at all, so when we crossed our shoulders hit, and she had the audacity to say "Excuse me" to me. So I said "Excuse YOU!" and pushed her in a snow bank. Oh, it felt good. I wish I could have rubbed her head in snow.
  9. I bought my Star Wars obsessed boyfriend Star Wars playing cards. They're actually pretty cool. Each one is a different poster, with many being from Europe or Asia. Finally, a piece of memorabilia that I'm not embarrassed to have around the apartment. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  10. I agree with Hawing. I've enjoyed this thread and nominate it to be stickied until spring training.
  11. Whhaaat? I don't know what kind of Yankee fans you associate with, but that is not the majority opinion at all. Actually, whenever I see World Championships brought up with Mussina, it's fans feeling bad he didn't get one, not blaming him.
  12. I read that Melvin said that they had originally looked at moving Cameron to gain some flexibility on the pitching front but that is no longer such a need. I was confused because it implied to me that acquiring pitching in no longer a need, but I guess he feels that they can still get a pitcher without having to trade Cameron.
  13. It was just the names, they also have swastikas all over the house and on their car. They claim to be "just symbols, not about hatred" although they also said races shouldn't mix. Poor kids.
  14. Gary Sheffield did come out and say Joe Torre hates black people... I don't blame Lofton for his opinions. Torre used to consistently favor gritty, ring club members over the better player. With Lofton, I remember wishing he had more playing time. Also, Jeter has always struck me as a unforgiving, bitter sonofabitch. There have been accounts (how reliable? Who knows, but let's speculate because it's fun!) that Jeter, Posada and others create an exclusive feeling in the clubhouse, esp. after losses. I've read before that players wouldn't come to NYC because of what other players have said about the environment, going all the way back to the 70s. I wouldn't be surprised if that continued with how the club was run under Torre. Regarding Griffy, Jr. I've never liked him, and one of the reasons was his adamant position that he would never go to the Yankees because some people were mean to him as a kid. Surprise, surprise, Billy Martin didn't like a kid running around the clubhouse. Grow up lameo. obsessedwithbrewcrew, Sabathia did just say in a question and answer that he always thought the Brewers was a one year deal. But I still think he used that as leverage. He said told Cashman he would accept 10 minutes after meeting in San Francisco, which would have been where the extra money was offered. Well they went with the strategy to immediately put out a super high offer to avoid a bidding war with bigger market teams. If they overpaid in anything, it was years not money.
  15. So Sabathia just had his press conference and then a question and answer session with some YES people. When asked about leaving Milwaukee, he said he had a good time but understood it was just a one year thing. That's news to me because I thought the Brewers had somewhat of a chance. I have to stop being so naive. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif
  16. OMG OMG OMG! Oxygen is going to play marathons of America's Next Top Model starting mid January! All the seasons! With interviews from past contestants! I'm soooo excited!! The only time I see old episodes rebroadcasted is before the previous cycle starts, and then it's on MTV and it's only the recent cycles. All day Sunday, and it's after the football season has ended!! YEA!!!! OMG OMG OMG!!
  17. I think Cashman is a good GM, but I am a Yankee fan. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif Regarding this deal, yes he did well. There was a strategy since the off season started. First, he was going to get CC no matter what. Second, he wanted to start out very high to ensure there wouldn't be a bidding war with other teams. Milwaukee came out with 100/5. Say Yankees offered 110/5. Before you know it, FA pitchers are being signed and the Yankees are in bidding wars with big market teams. Eventually CC would have gotten the money. And according to this the Yankees got a deal and if my team was to overpay for someone, I would want it to be bonafide ace. My only concern is with the years, but I'll still need to see how the contract was structured.
  18. I would argue that Cameron is a descending player as well. If you look at recent centerfielders like Griffey and Bernie Williams, they seemed to hit a wall in their mid 30s. Once that range goes, you have little else. [snip] O/T Regarding Bernie, did he have good range if he had terrible jumps and took poor routes? He always got to the ball because he was a great athlete and was super fast. Can someone point me to a place that discusses this? Also with Bernie, even though he declined in the field quickly, his bat was still valuable a couple more years. Right now the Yankees seem more concerned with the hole Melky/Gardner gives to the lineup than the defense in center. Also they're not looking for anyone long term since it seems Jackson should be up by 2010/2011. This deal only makes sense to meif the Brewers get a solid pitcher in the deal or Melvin's dumping salary solely to get a FA pitcher.
  19. I thought the suspension was for a series of behavior? What made me shake my head wasn't what he said but the face he made when he said "sloppy seconds." In the video it didn't come off as a fun dig. It seemed disrespectful to his lady friends and certified him as a penis. That said, it wasn't anywhere near to being a big deal so I was surprised at any punishment, but I'm not a hockey fan. Also I understand that he was probably forced to send out an apology, but it makes me chuckle at the supposed 'tough guy'.
  20. Where did you read the Yankees soured on Cano? He's not going anywhere. When I first read that the trade was straight up Cameron for Cabrera, I kinda cringed. It felt like the Yankees were robbing a bank, or maybe more like an Arbys. Melky was at least average in the field, with a great arm, but was terrible at the plate. It might not be an upgrade for the Yanks defensively, but it would be offensively. The Yankees are very concerned about their offense, so I don't know how anyone could chose a platoon of Cabrera and Gardner over Cameron. And in a couple years the Yankees have a top prospect coming up, so Cameron makes perfect sense as a stop gap. I hope the Yankees make this happen, unless they need the money to sign Teixeira. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  21. It's been confirmed that Cashman flew to the San Francisco bay area earlier today.
  22. You would love the Grease trucks at Rutgers. They make subs with steak, bacon, cheeses, chicken fingers, fries, mozzarella sticks, etc. Each combo had a name, but my favorite (before I became a vegetarian) was the one with chicken fingers, french fries, mozzarella sticks, and sauce. And yes, they were fabulous when drunk at 1am.
  23. I forgot I have you to blame when I'm out at dinner and hear "I have to get home to export." http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  24. This isn't that important, but I read that Sabathia requested another face-to-face with the Yankees and asked Cashman and Girardi about living in the NYC area and schools for his kids. Both said that Sabathia's interest is sincere. I still have no idea where he'll sign, but I've always leaned towards the Dodgers. It's a shame he'd have to put up with Joe Torre. Also I didn't know that he bought a plot of land in Orange County to build a home.
