    Yeah, aside from being the #3 overall in 2011, & backing it up with a 3.00 cumulative career ERA in the minors (2.42 in '12), or being called up basically one year after being drafted, Bauer is a total disappointment.

    One get-to-know-me piece is on Badenhop, a player Brewers fans don't yet know. There's video about depth at catcher, a clip with Axford talking about changing his delivery, & lots of good photos. The other get-to-know piece was the very first post on this season's blog, and looked at Jungmann/Kintzler/Crosby, again all players many Brewers fans probably don't know much, if anything, about. I think they've done well so far, given that they've had all of three days so far. I'm not even sure if all the Brewers' players are in camp yet.

    I'd be stunned if the Brewers are interested in giving up on Hellweg as a SP just yet. I really hope Kintzler can feature in the bullpen this season -- when he's healthy, I like his stuff.

    I completely agree on that take, FTC. Unless he's just terrible in ST, imo you send a really bad message to the entire youth ranks of the organization if you send Peralta back to AAA to make room for Narveson (though it's the type of move Melvin has made time & time again). Wily struggled early in '12, but more than righted the ship with Nashville, earned a call-up, and posted brilliant results over his 5 big-league starts (2.25 ERA). He's proven that he belongs in MLB, and to hold him back so Narveson can pitch to his career 4.60+ ERA just makes no sense to me. The only angle I could sorta get behind is to keep Peralta from burning a full year's service time in '13, but even that isn't enough for me in this specific case. I'm glad Narveson looks to be well ahead of schedule & ready to go, but this just reminds me of the McGehee/Gamel situation (yes I realize Gamel didn't help himself as well), and I don't want Melvin making the same mistake. Narveson would be a nice asset in the bullpen, and is such a pro's pro that I doubt he'd take too long to get stretched out in case of an injury to one of the five best SPs in the organization.

    I missed Inter yesterday, Kalle -- were you at the San Siro? Glad to hear they picked up the win; Cluj are a solid side. I hope I can catch the second leg of that matchup.

    To nitpick, I wouldn't include Haniger as a high-end type of talent, nor would I include Jungmann & Bradley in that category at this point. Just 'safer'-style college picks imo. Unfortunately there are several then-high-schoolers who the Brewers could not only have drafted, but have also performed well as pros. Seid & Co. have come across as pretty risk-averse so far, and imo it's reflected in a very 'blah' farm system.

    This one came down to FT shooting & a startling instance of poor clock/time management by Bo, imo. Really disappointing loss -- like brwrsfan said, they simply shouldn't have been able to find a way to lose this game. Even with all the missed good looks (esp. from 3), they were in a position to win. Oh, and to trwi7's excellent screengrab... it's absolutely true. Defensively, I think Evans is a plus. But not to the extent that he's a better net impact than Dekker at this point. Ryan's insistance on Evans over Dekker was a big contributing factor to this loss, and it will continue to hold the team back imo going forward. What the team lacks is a knockout scorer, and Dekker is clearly that guy imo, even if he's still 'in the making'... limiting his minutes only hampers his development & weakens the team overall.

    Well, as much as I love that generation of Brewers, it's not even close to comparing to 3 solid HoF candidates & one fringe HoF candidate. And although it may be clear already, I definitely don't agree with the 'window' strategy for the Brewers -- not only did it fail the organization in not bringing back any hardware, it has led to the current weak farm system that, as it stands, won't be able to replace the talent the org. will lose. Melvin's results reflect his methods quite well imo. If you want to say something matches up with a fanbase accustomed to losing, it's being thrilled with one postseason series win in 6 seasons.
