  1. I'm sure that's true, as that is their role. However, my larger point is that I don't believe any teams will be lining up to make trade offers for a player like Gennett. I don't think there will be offers to entertain. He's an interesting player to us as fans, because you can count the number of big bats in our system on one hand.
  2. I'm not sure what kinds of offers the Brewers would get for Gennett. If he were in another team's system, we likely wouldn't even know about him.
  3. 7 years MiLB service. He can opt for MiLB free agency.
  4. Turtle must be devastated. Turtle? Think how Finn must feel.
  5. Not sure, but I can't imagine 2B would be a problem at all. And since he's such a good defender (with a good arm), I'd bet he could handle 3B with some work there in ST.
  6. Waiting for sheetskout's reaction. Love this move. I'm happy for the Brewers' sake, but kind of a bummer for Gonzalez that no other team wanted him to start at SS. I think he's still good enough to do so, and in that sense is a wonderfully affordable luxury for us.
  7. For the love of all things good in the universe, I hope no Cardinals fan anywhere sees this. Ever.
  8. Maybe if the Brewers just say "pretty please". No. And if Melvin forfeits a first-rounder for this joker, I think I'd break things.
  9. This is so well-said. Bravo.
  10. I've had both Extra Innings & MLB.tv Go with MLB.tv. It's so much better it's not even funny imo. As has been mentioned, you can watch it through numerous devices. Great value imo.
  11. Having said that Lawrie went from being a HOF player (according to the many who loved him) Literally no one said that. Iirc some said he'd be an all-star. I'm not exactly sure where I'd peg him to finish his career, but he's going to make the Blue Jays the clear winner of the Marcum deal, which is the only context I really care about.
  12. I think comparing Prado directly to Upton isn't done effectively unless you factor in that Prado's a FA after this coming season, whereas J. Upton is signed through 2015. On top of that, his upside is much higher than Prado's. For one season, perhaps the Braves have sacrificed a little bit of overall value going from Prado to Upton. But clearly this trade was made for much more than 2013. Going forward, an outfield of Upton--Upton--Heyward could easily wind up being the best in MLB.
  13. From WTP's post (#75) in this thread (via the Jon & Cait blog): In addition to the fan vote, a panel of voters including Axford, Brewers President of Baseball Operations and General Manager Doug Melvin and Brewers Chief Operating Officer Rick Schlesinger will judge the finalists. The fan vote will stay open until Tuesday, January 22 at 10 a.m. CT and will count as one vote among the panel of eight judges. Other judges include Brewers Senior Director – Merchandise Branding Jill Aronoff, and representatives from Majestic, New Era and the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
  14. Based on what? Some executives didn't even know Lawrie was available when the Brewers traded him. http://brewersbeat.mlblogs.com/2010/12/06/some-execs-surprised-lawrie-was-available/ That's exactly what was on my mind when I made my post. Thanks for linking that, trwi7.
  15. Just re-watched the UW-MIN game. And I'm not basing this off just this single game, but man -- Dekker looks completely legit. He's going to be an absolute star imo. I realize he wasn't exactly some unknown commodity/that's not some amazing bold statement, but I think he could easily wind up being the best player Ryan has recruited at UW. He already looks like a seasoned vet on offense (such a natural scorer), and as long as he can get his defense to Ryan-caliber, he's going to be special.
  16. He was (& still is) regarded very highly by MLB talent evaluators, and could have returned a good young pitcher who'd be with the Brewers through at least 2014-'16.
  17. Exactly. My only question with the trade is did we get the best pitcher back we possibly could have received. Outside of that I am fine trading Lawrie. There was a thread in the minor league forum that look at how many top prospects from 2006 busted, There are zero guarantees with anything. No idea what Lawrie will show up going forward, but we do know Marcum was a huge reason we almost made a world series which was a great ride! Yay! We got to try out being a real club for one season! Obviously I was never a fan of the Marcum-Lawrie trade. I'm also not a fan of the 'go for it once every five seasons' team-building approach. It would be nice to see the Brewers develop a long-term plan, but it's just not happening under Melvin. I'm sure it's not going to be too well-received, but I would gladly trade making one LCS for a better long-term approach. Imo what Melvin's legacy is going to be once he's gone is that he wasted Ryan Braun's prime/career.
  18. Sorry to confuse -- I love that logo & agree with you on why. But BF.net has users that consistently bash it & accuse anyone who likes it of living in the past.
  19. Cue the onslaught of "Stop living in the past" posts...
  20. You just summed up why I quit following them. There just hasn't been a real plan for so long now imo.
  21. With 14 guys participating in the WBC, the Brewers quite literally just need more bodies for ST. I think it's more likely that Crosby will just be an extra body than it is he's seriously being considered for the 25-man. At least I hope.
  22. I think this is insurance against losing out on Sea Bass, but a MiLC with a ST invite hardly stands in the way of signing González. The Brewers are pretty thin at SS in the upper levels of the minors, so Crosby will likely just be an organizational soldier imo.
  23. Holy crap, has Gamel matured. That is easily the best interview I've ever heard him give. Also, "There's a raccoon chasing me right now." Great way to end the interview.
  24. I want to like the guy, but I don't think he exactly grades out well so far.
