  1. Young was one of the top (if not the top) prospects in all of MLB at the time. Gennett for Bauer isn't close to being realistic. I think your first idea was on the right track, although given the return the Padres got for Latos, I'm not sure Rogers/Fiers/Prince would quite be enough. It's definitely a good starting point, though. I think the idea of two young cost-controlled arms in exchange for Bauer would at least get Towers listening. If I'm Towers, I probably insist one of those arms is Peralta, but you never know how trade discussions can go.
  2. I had to look that up... nicely played
  3. It would suggest a confidence in Scooter. Which, after a .714 OPS at AA & questions still remaining about his defense, would be ill-placed as of right now. Gennett has a long way to go still.
  4. To me, it's clear that a #4 type is exactly the type of SP on which the Brewers shouldn't be looking to spend. They have around a half-dozen guys who could very realistically fill the #4 & #5 spots, and most of them are young pitchers who shouldn't be blocked because they need the MLB innings. Capuano might provide good value, but I don't think he's a good fit for the Crew.
  5. The battle begins... Stosh v. Stache! http://i.imgur.com/sgnfe.jpg ... http://i.imgur.com/nvyOq.jpg
  6. Am I the only one who didn't find him impressive in that video?
  7. If only he'd been able to play with Mike Cameron... imagine the possibilities
  8. I'd be happy with Haren as well, especially since he should be cheaper... provided the Brewers think Haren will be healthy & productive.
  9. Whoa. Juve were on an amazing run, great win for Inter!
  10. This would be an excellent claim for the Brewers, but I'd be surprised if he lasted all the way to them.
  11. Completely agree on Lohse, but with Greinke, Sanchez, Jackson, & Haren on the market, this actually seems like a stronger SP class to me than most seasons.
  12. I would love to see the Brewers go after Jackson, although now that he doesn't cost a team its first rounder, I'm concerned that the price might be prohibitive. The highest I would go for Jackson would be 4/$60M. I think there's a good chance he could get 5 years from someone, though. I could certainly see the Yankees being interested, along with basically any club that misses out on Greinke (or doesn't want to meet his asking price in the first place). Jackson & Anibal Sanchez are pretty clearly the co-second-place SP on the market given their age, and the bidding could get crazy on them once Greinke is gone.
  13. This thread title's "latest" note should be updated with Melvin's comment about having the Narron connection but not the US Bank connection. The only place this idea has legs is fantasy land.
  14. I'm going to be interested to see what kinds of offers Edwin Jackson gets, since he wasn't offered a QO. 2013 is only his age-29 season; I could easily see him getting 4-5 years.
  15. I think Obi-Wan is the hero in terms of the most common usage of the term. Anakin is a tragic hero.
  16. I actually regard Anakin as the hero of 1-3, albeit a fallen one by the end
  17. Yeah, between the theme park angle, video games, cartoons, movies, merchandising, etc., I can't see how Disney won't make back that $4B & then some.
  18. Anything over one season for Dempster seems crazy to me. Is he actually expected to get multi-year offers?
  19. I'll second DatHoser. Excellent book.
  20. If there is something out there that doesn't show up in a stat line (i.e. he got hurt and lost a lot of velocity) His avg. FB velocity fell to a career-low 88.5 mph per his FanGraphs page. FanGraphs also has an interesting look at how his back injury impacted his performance in '12.
  21. Nah, cast Hamill, Fisher, Ford, etc as there original characters in episode 7 as old people one with the force and make new heroes from there. Maybe their kids or something. Suddenly I'm not so angry. Don't toy with my emotions! Or... Episode 7: Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
  22. I like your conservative approach in these offers. I definitely don't want to see the Brewers dealing away anyone like Peralta or Thornburg unless they're getting someone of Shields's caliber for more than two seasons. Is Hart+Gomez too slight an offer for Shields? I realize each guy only gives you one guaranteed season, but Hart would also net you a comp pick. That's not bad for two seasons of Shields... probably wouldn't be enough, but I don't think I'd want to move any young SPs right now unless it's the perfect deal.
  23. The animated series is quite good. The Clone Wars animated movie was god-awful. But I do think Paul is right to point to the recent superhero stuff Disney has turned out, and you're right to point to the potential of the LucasArts graphics. I guess I'll take a more wait-&-see approach from here on out, as opposed to my doom & gloom instant reaction.
  24. Oh no. It gets worse. Disney plans to make Episodes 7, 8, & 9.
