  1. He absolutely does, and my hope is that this season taught him that... OMG young players can actually contribute in a playoffs chase. Not holding my breath on that one, though.
  2. The Braves didn't even manage to score one run after the game restarted, so it's not like the call cost them the game. It was called waaaaaaay too late, but I was reminded of the 'Bartman game' where the real reason the losing team lost is that they played awful defense.
  3. WOW. Biggest infield fly rule call I've ever seen. Holy crap.
  4. Just saw on Adam McCalvy's blog, Hunter Morris was awarded the Gold Glove for MiLB first basemen. Congrats Hunter!
  5. Matheny actually said that he thinks those are tough situations for umpires to handle when he was asked about it in a mid-inning interview. No complaining. (Yet)
  6. http://i.imgur.com/CcwXn.gif No problem! I know I was relieved to find these guys; happy to spread the word.
  7. My not-so-bold prediction is that you'll never go anywhere else again.
  8. -When you say 'double digits', are you talking hit total, or batting average? -I'm talkin' battin' average, there's no doubt about. -You were .022 last year! -Hey, let's be honest, dude -- I've been working with Derrick Turnbow on my swing. It's looking better this year, you know?
  9. I was thinking about the bolded part yesterday, & came to the same basic conclusion. The only guy I can think of is Lucroy, in that we probably shouldn't expect him to post AVGs around .320. I think his cumulative MiLB slash line is a pretty decent guess, however: .299/.379/.459/.838. I'd probably adjust a generic projection to more like .299/.360/.475/.835, since his BB rate in the bigs is (understandably) lower than it was in the minors, but "mid-800s OPS" would probably suffice. And that's certainly nothing to complain about. Maldonado might be a regression candidate, but not because of his MiLB numbers, just because he hit pretty well for a rookie catcher & had a Ransom-esque BB/K rate.
  10. In the AL, I find it hard not to pull for the A's. Kottaras, Balfour, Rickie's younger brother, and the 29th payroll in the league. NL... I guess Washington? Maybe Cincy? Harder for me to pick a team there.
  11. Auto Select. Never had any complaints with them. And I actually had a conversation once with the mechanic who was shuttling me home after I dropped off my car in which he told me how surprising & refreshing he thought it was when he discovered (like on day 1) that they're an honest outfit. Told me he'd worked for several places before AS & the amount of shady dealings was just sad.
  12. I would be pretty upset if the Brewers deal any quality young SPing for relief arms, especially if they'd only be getting two seasons out of said RP arm(s). Perez gives you roughly 60 IP/season of a mid- or low-3's ERA. I don't want to have to pay $5M+ AAV for that, let alone have to give up someone like Jimmy Nelson or Nick Bucci for it. I guess obviously how much I'd hate a deal like this would depend on what "young pitching" means, in terms of value.
  13. Pretty cool moment for Berkman in last night's game: Link (video) Yeah, I know it's the Cardinals, but I've always liked Big Puma. He's always seemed very down-to-earth & likeable.
  14. In 'not surprising at all' news, the Sawx have fired Bobby Valentine. Link
  15. I don't agree that Arcia to A would be best-case, since the guy has only logged one 'full' season of pro ball, and that was 64 G (254 PA) in the DSL. He's only entering his age-18 season & coming off a serious injury, there's simply no reason to push him to Wisconsin yet imo. I wouldn't even be surprised if he starts off the season (after ext. ST) with the AZL Brewers. Even Helena would be asking a lot of him imo since he lost all of '12 to injury.
  16. What struck me about Logan Schaefer is that down the stretch he seemed to always come up with some kind of clutch pinch hit in big spots. Not sure how I can go back and quantify that, but that is my perception. As if he performed better in PH than he did starting. The stats definitely back up your memory, even though they're tiny samples: Schafer's BB-Ref. 2012 splits page as Starter (10 PA): .300/.300/.600/.900 as PH (9 PA): .500/.444/.750/1.194 --Leverage-- High (6 PA): 1.167 OPS Med. (7 PA): .762 Low (12 PA): .705
  17. That is a good question. I couldn't find a site that did it so I just dumped each one of these tables into Excel: Wow! Thanks for doing the grunt work on that. Cool to see the results.
  18. This is how I feel about it. Pretty cool, even if it's an older concept. Is there anywhere that lists winners of the so-called modern triple crown (BA/OBP/SLG)?
  19. Actually, it's a reflection on Beane's commitment to building the A's in the right manner, year-by-year. He's consistently made good trades & acquisitions, and while this season in a vacuum may be a 'fluke', it's certainly no fluke that a team that built around young pitching & impact talent is in the postseason.
  20. Only in the 5th, but the Yanks are up 5-1 & threatening to add more. EDIT: Aannnnd Robbie Cano just knocked out a 2-R HR right after I posted this. 7-1 now.
  21. After 'covering' the Stars for this season's Link Report, I definitely had the assumption that Stinson was another upper-80s/low-90s sinkerballer. That was exclusively due to his journeyman MiLB stats prior to 2012 and the fact that he didn't get promoted to Nashville despite being a strong performer all season at Huntsville. I was very pleasantly surprised to see him working with a sinker around 94 mph in his first MLB game this season. Looking forward to seeing how he fares tonight. I'm guessing he'll be yet another arm in the Nashville rotation that'll add to the SP depth for 2013.
  22. Oh man, this would be sooooo fun to see... I go to a lot of games, but this would increase that number even more... No kidding! Man, now my hopes are up so high for the T-Rats' roster next season.
  23. I'm really looking forward to getting a sneak peek at Roache in the fall league(s)
  24. Hat tip to you, Bennie. Great career. We'll never forget what a force of nature you were as a hitter.
  25. How is it a joke that a guy OPSing 1.000 with Comerica Park as a home field might win the AL MVP?
