  1. For one season of a 38-yo. Lucroy... Lucroy+!. I have to channel McEnroe... "You have got to be kidding me!"
  2. I'm not into the Skyrim series myself, but I know many that post here are. Saw this linked on Reddit: Photo album of the first screencaps from Skyrim: Dragonborn
  3. It was just the first thing I thought of. I thought it was a cool idea for the Brewers, but then I played around with swapping the colors out on the logo & wasn't as into it. I could see the Brewers either dismissing the concept out of hand (just 'been there, done that') or actually really liking it.
  4. Nolasco's a pitcher who appears to be prone to the gopher ball, and that wouldn't play well at Miller Park. I'd pass, although with a different home park I might feel differently. EDIT: Hmm, for some reason I remembered being struck by the amount of HRs he allows. Looking at him now, not sure it's as big a concern in recent seasons.
  5. Perfect opportunity for all the Brewers fans who like the idea of the ball & glove logo/current color scheme
  6. Yeah, the premise of this post has nothing to do with whether or not the Marlins should keep him. It's assuming he's going to demand a trade if he hasn't already.
  7. Ugh. Actually, right now I'm suggesting we move on & forget this even got mentioned in this thread. This discussion has been had so many times I've lost count. In short, no, not Harden (although the Cubs did get a 1.77 ERA out of him for their share of him in '08).
  8. Let's outlaw pinch-running & pinch-hitting too! Integrity of the game!
  9. That's not the counterargument, it's who else the team could've traded for to have for longer than less-than-half a season. I respect anyone's stance that would still make the CC trade, but at least recognize the alternative being argued instead of playing 20/20 hindsight with prospects.
  10. So this is the topic that I haven't been able to get out of my head. If you're Jon Daniels, do you offer up Jurickson Profar? If you're Larry Beinfest/Michael Hill, is Profar straight-up enough to pull the trigger? I'd also guess Boston & Oakland (along with any team that has talent stashed away on the farm) are frantically trying to put together offers. What are your thoughts?
  11. Can you explain why you feel it's not good for the game?
  12. After this megadeal, they should probably deal Stanton asap. His value will never be higher, & I agree with you in that I can't imagine he wants any part of staying with Miami now.
  13. I swear I remember that Hart himself said he's lost speed, but I couldn't find it in a quick search. Iirc he made the comment(s) just this past season.
  14. Aoki finished 5th in NL ROTY voting Link 1st: Bryce Harper WAS 2nd: Wade Miley ARZ 3rd: Todd Frazier CIN 4th: Wilin Rosario COL
  15. Honest guess: fantasy baseball GMs investigating whether or not he's a good buy-low option for 2013, or if he really is a mid-.700s OPS bat heading forward. But even that seems like a stretch to think he'd be top 5 with all the hot stove chatter this offseason.
  16. His name is DAN UGGLA I have no answer for you, I just love that HR call.
  17. Wow. I'd forgotten just how long the Yankees extended A-Rod's contract (2017). I missed reillymcshane's post #6 when I began this one, so this isn't intended to be nit-picky. They agreed to pay him $143M in base salary alone for his age-36 through age-41 seasons. He's currently at 647 career HRs, and as reilly noted he has the $6M/per 660/714/755 milestone bonuses. 660 seems all but a certainty, so tack on $6M more. He also received a signing bonus that tacks on $4M more during these seasons. So if I've got the details & math correct, that's $153M for age 36-41 ($25.5M AAV). By my count, and assuming he gets to #660, he has $121M still owed to him ('13 is his age-37 season) even if he doesn't reach #714 and #755. If he's able to stick in MLB until the end of his contract, I think he'll likely reach #714. FanGraphs' dollar value for what A-Rod produced from 2004-'11 (age 28-35) is $190M, while -- again, if my math is correct -- he made $230M in base salary+signing bonus for those seasons. He also had performance bonuses, which I currently don't want to spend the time tallying... and in 2001 deferred a chunk of his pay to '11-'20, to be paid with interest. The Rangers agreed to pay a decent chunk of the deal they'd signed him to when they agreed to send him to the Yankees prior to the '04 season. However, A-Rod exercised an opt-out clause after the '07 season and basically nullified the rest of that contract, I'm unsure how much Texas wound up paying. I don't believe there's any doubt that Rodríguez is one of the best players in MLB history. However, the Yankees have almost certainly grossly overpaid him from '04-'12, and it only looks like it'll get worse. What a trainwreck. Oh yeah, and naturally he has a no-trade clause in the contract to boot. EDIT: Here's the link to the Yankees Cot's page if anyone else feels like sifting through A-Rod's contract details
  18. The way in which 'people want to be like the Rays' is in basing their org. building strategy around developing young impact pitching, and not over-committing to veterans in general. I don't think I've ever read anything at BF talking about the Rays' bullpen (short of lamentation over Balfour a few years back). I realize you are attempting to speak to hypocrisy, but I don't think it's there. I'm also confused as to why you felt RockCo's & my responses were directed at you -- there are a lot of posters on the site that are suggesting signing RPs on 2-3 year deals (meaning w/o considering option years).
  19. I couldn't agree more with this stance. I'd much rather see the Brewers put a guy like Stinson in the MLB bullpen for a year than get suckered into a multi-year deal for a Proven Veteran™.
  20. I can't speak for anyone else, but for me, two words.... Johnny Estrada. I gave him the benefit of the doubt at the time- 'wow he hits pretty good for a catcher, etc.'. Never again. I look at it this way, if Jackson were really the type of talent to command a three year, eight figure per deal, would that many teams have let him walk? I thought trwi7's initial post summed up pretty nicely that no team has yet "let him walk". I really think that, with Jackson, it's as simple as his results don't live up to his stuff & teams don't view him as a centerpiece. Nothing wrong with that, and it definitely doesn't imply anything further about him unless you want it to (short of anyone coming up with some evidence that he's had character concerns or whatever it is we're implying in this thread).
  21. The thing to be wary of with Dempster specifically, or older players in general, is that the 'end' can arrive very quickly. He lost velocity on his fastball in both '11 & '12, and unless he resorts to doping, we should probably expect that velocity loss to continue in '13. And, while he was very much a workhorse from '08-'11, he missed time last season (173 total IP) with lat tightness -- injuries & missing time are other trends we can expect to continue or increase with older players. Imo paying him $10-$15M (or whatever AAV he gets) to watch him decline over the next 2-3 seasons is a big risk. I don't want the Brewers to be stuck holding the bag again like they were with Wolf this past season.
  22. I'd like to think home park was factored in for a lot of voters, too, but I doubt it.
  23. Not too surprising to see Anthopoulos swoop in on Jeffress, seems to fit his m.o. thus far as a GM.
  24. From the MLBTR post Mudville9 linked: "The right-hander has fallen out of favor with some in the organization." Bauer by all accounts is still a top 10 prospect. You don't "sauer" on a top ten prospect. You say you do to dangle him out there to see what type of return you can get at the Gm Meetings. I'm not saying that Bauer won't be traded from the D'Backs as they have incredible front-line prospect pitching depth. I'm just saying that the people tossing out these rumors need to realize that Bauer is still the equivalent of gold in the prospect world; a possible front-line starter who's under financial control for years. It would still take a lot to get Bauer. I think most people reading here realize that. It's an exciting idea. The reason I posted the snippet I did in response to you was that I took your post to mean you had no idea where nate82 got the idea about the DBacks not being as high on Bauer anymore. Oh, also, "sauer" ... nice!
