  1. Whoops -- no no that's not how I meant that at all Just meant without doing any real digging I found two guys. Not, 'Hey man, you're a lazy bum!'
  2. I feel similarly, and it seems like the Brewers have a lot of second-tier types of talent in the minors right now. Almost everyone I'd rank in a top 10 would feel pretty close to 1a-1j for me. Segura stands out as having talent & very few question marks, but after that there are probably 8-12 or so guys that seem to be about even.
  3. It's still more of a challenge though. I see people throw that line around way too often. If you re-read what you quoted from me, you'll see that I didn't dispute that it's more of a challenge. It's just a marginal one.
  4. What are you more upset about? That it's annoying. Also, I personally find it ridiculous that anyone would attribute a direct quote to anybody else... without it being a direct quote. But hey, guess I'm crazy about not faking direct quotes from people. All it would've taken is mentioning that you were paraphrasing. You do realize that something like that can reflect poorly on BF as an entity, right? And I don't mean like 'OMG you hurt everyone's feelings!' I mean like someone could see that quote, run with it, & attribute it to BF.net.
  5. Johnny Cueto & Clayton Kershaw are two I found in less than 5 min. just checking Baseball-Reference's NL pitching leaderboard.
  6. AAA doesn't provide much more of a challenge than AA, and plenty of guys successfully make the jump from AA to MLB. Not saying I think Thornburg should be in the rotation from day one in 2013, but I will never agree with 'you must play at AAA before going to the majors'.
  7. I don't think anyone suggested trading Fiers. You must really entertain yourself.
  8. So if you didn't make it up... you attributed a direct quote to someone based on just your memory from something you heard in the car on the way to work. Why would anyone do that without acknowledging, 'Hey, this is something I heard on the radio...'? Weird.
  9. If history dictates... the most well-paid relievers get first priority, then the women, then everyone else! Sorry, Mike McClendon. Maybe you can strike up a last-minute romance with Rose...
  10. I've always thought Rex Hudler was a really big idiot... this helps confirm that instinct.
  11. Chattanooga 6, @Huntsville 5 Huntsville Box Huntsville lost a close (& in some ways, crazy) one tonight. Ariel Pena struggled mightily in his first start as Brewers property: 5 IP, 7 H, 5 R/ER, 2 BB, 3 K, 6:2 GO:AO. Pena gave up 5 XBH (3 2B, 3B, HR) in the 1st & 3rd innings; he worked 1-2-3 frames in the 2nd, 4th, & 5th. Johnnie Lowe was fantastic in relief of Pena, tossing two perfect innings with nothing hit hard against him. Kyle Heckathorn only gave up two hits in his two IP, but one of them was a solo HR in the 9th, which was the decisive run in this contest. Hunter Morris homered in the 4th -- a solo shot -- for his only hit on the night; he finished 1-4. Jean Segura went 1-5 with one RBI, and his lone hit was an interesting single in the 3rd... check the PbP section for more on that. Lee Haydel was 4-4 on the game, with three 1B and a 1-RBI 2B in the 7th; Haydel was also picked off once & CS once. Scooter Gennett went 1-4 with a single. Josh Prince was 1-4 with one 2B & one BB. Kentrail Davis finished 0-3, with a SB after reaching on a HBP in the 7th; Anderson De La Rosa and Hainley Statia both were 0-4. T.J. Mittelstaedt singled in a PH appearance in the 7th. Huntsville PbP Not sure exactly how to decipher the Segura IF single in the 3rd -- maybe it was that Segura beat out an IF single, Haydel scored on the grounder, Pena scored on the throwing error, and Segura got caught getting greedy... ? : Huntsville Bottom of the 3rd -Lee Haydel singles on a bunt ground ball to first baseman J. T. Wise. -With Ariel Pena batting, Aaron Miller picks off Lee Haydel at 1st on throw to J. T. Wise. -Ariel Pena walks. -Josh Prince doubles (20) on a fly ball to left fielder Brahiam Maldonado. Ariel Pena to 3rd. -Jean Segura singles on a ground ball to shortstop Rafael Ynoa. Ariel Pena scores. Josh Prince scores. Throwing error by first baseman J. Wise. Jean Segura out at 3rd, shortstop Rafael Ynoa to pitcher Aaron Miller. -Scooter Gennett flies out to left fielder Brahiam Maldonado. The 7th also saw two Huntsville runs score: Huntsville Bottom of the 7th -Anderson De La Rosa grounds out softly, pitcher Wes Roemer to first baseman J. T. Wise. -Kentrail Davis hit by pitch. -With Lee Haydel batting, Kentrail Davis steals (16) 2nd base. -Lee Haydel doubles (4) on a ground ball to right fielder Blake Smith. Kentrail Davis scores. -Offensive Substitution: Pinch-hitter T. J. Mittelstaedt replaces Johnnie Lowe. -T. J. Mittelstaedt singles on a ground ball to right fielder Blake Smith. Lee Haydel to 3rd. T. Mittelstaedt to 2nd on the throw. -Josh Prince walks. -Jean Segura grounds into a force out, second baseman Luis Nunez to shortstop Rafael Ynoa. Lee Haydel scores. T. Mittelstaedt to 3rd. Josh Prince out at 2nd. Jean Segura to 1st. -Pitching Change: Steven Rodriguez replaces Wes Roemer, batting 7th. -Scooter Gennett lines out to second baseman Luis Nunez. Huntsville Gameday
  12. Yeah, obviously its original intent was about renting, but it just morphed into the movie discussion spot. I just figured you'd enjoy that thread; there are many posts in there similar to your two. Usually a really good read.
  13. Scouts & prospect-watchers seem to really like Gennett's swing, and the reports tend to agree that his defense has improved quite a bit this season.
  14. I feel a little silly, but I'm actually getting excited for Pena's start tonight.
  15. The DVD Rental Day thread has become the movies megathread
  16. Estrada reminds me a bit of Dave Bush. Decent but not great velocity, doesn't walk many dudes, but definitely can get hit hard. Although Estrada has been better at getting K's.
  17. In the Segura/Hellweg/Pena thread, Mass Haas posted a link to Jim Callis's latest Ask BA. Callis answers questions about the Greinke trade, & reveals his new Brewers top 10 list. Just figured I'd cross-post it here, since it's so germane.
  18. Wow, I've been feeling pretty good about the Brewers' farm system lately. That was a sobering kick to the teeth. Although the comment on Peralta makes me wonder just how closely Callis examined the system before making that list.
  19. someone should be in these clowns ears telling them that you don't throw a fat fastball or hanger right down the pipe on 0-2. They were probably making those pitches on purpose, right?
  20. Like has been said; Lee is trending downward. Is that actually true, though? Or are we just assuming he is because he's on the wrong side of 30. Has his velocity or command diminished? I honestly don't know, but it's entirely possible he's had a fluky bad year so far. 33 really isn't that old, but it's certainly past a guy's physical prime. How many posts were there last season about Greinke being a guy who'd never be a true ace again (or something to that extent)? One season in baseball can be a very imperfect way to determine if a guy is declining or not.
  21. I realize this probably isn't true, but I picture you watching the equestrian events, yelling at the TV trying to psych out the horses & riders into falling. Not quite, but close--I did make comments to myself about some near misses, and about one jump in particular where the horse lands on a steep downslope. You have no idea how rewarding it is to my juvenile sense of humor that you're actively rooting for falls. Outstanding.
  22. I'm pretty confident we do, unless the Phils are making position-specific demands. But I wouldn't want to move for Lee. He's been pretty durable, but mid-30s is where you might guess that could stop.
  23. Wow, I never noticed that 1) the Cerveceritos only play four teams, and 2) that they play them in the same repeating order. v. Angels: 4-7 v. Blue Jays: 6-5 v. Braves: 6-6 v. Tigers: 5-6 The only thing that really stood out to me is that the Cerveceritos were 5-1 against the Blue Jays in June, but have lost four of the last five meetings.
