  1. Nah, doesn't really seem embarrassing for you, RockCo. *This* would be embarrassing:
  2. The thread title kinda seems like a reach to me, so fair play?
  3. The sights, sounds, crowd, atmosphere, the fun of "being there," etc. Those are all things that aren't factors for a scout. Of course. But things like pre-pitch defensive positioning, how the wind is or isn't carrying the ball, or any of the other factors TheCrew07 mentioned are the 'scout equivalent' to the fan experience factors you noted.
  4. I'm really hoping the Brewers don't go out and sign some blah FA or excercise Wolf's option if he's not traded. In other words, IMO there's a need for TT next season, and for me that's largely due to the fact that he'll absolutely be needed in the rotation beyond just 2013... '13 will be an important year for him to acclimate himself to the bigs. I'm guessing that he'll get the call sometime in late May or early June or so in the interest of keeping his service time down.
  5. Thornburg had a minor injury and is scheduled to start tomorrow. He'll get plenty of reps in AAA this season.
  6. Why bother attending a game in person as a fan, right? There's no difference from just watching on TV.
  7. I guess I wasn't expecting to see a guy like Burgos on a list of basically top-100 talent in all of MiLB. He's pitched very well this season, but it seems like these types of rankings favor raw physical talent at least at a 50/50 ratio with stats. And maybe the fact that he hasn't really stood out, statistically, until this season factored into his exclusion. Don't get me wrong, I'm excited about Burgos. If he were a NY or other east-coast prospect, he may have even been included. But with how heavily physical talent is weighted in these kinds of lists, one could argue that he's something like the Brewers' 5th or 6th best P prospect.
  8. Who are all these 'haters'?
  9. Sounds pretty high on himself... should fit right in with the cards
  10. Curious as to why you're surprised
  11. Aside --- if anyone cares, Mike Guerrero is the Sounds manager, not Don Money
  12. Well, if it makes you feel any better, Prince started at SS for Huntsville last night. BB-ref.com has it as his second game at SS on the '12 season, but I'm not sure if it was or wasn't his first start at the position so far this season. I agree (& so do many others, who've discussed it in the MiLB forum... you included ) that it's weird to see him all of a sudden playing everyday at CF. It's hard to not think that move came from defensive struggles at SS, but like you alluded to, any potential struggles on D would quite literally be news to BF.net.
  13. @Huntsville 4, Mobile 3 Huntsville Box As Mass Haas noted in the thread title, Hiram Burgos was outstanding. And he did it against a Mobile offense that had scored 7.7 runs per game through the first three of this five-game series. The only run Burgos let in tonight came after he was charged an error on a pickoff attempt in the 2nd. He surrendered a leadoff double, and promptly threw the ball away. The runner advanced to 3B, and later scored when Burgos induced a double play. From that point, the Bay Bears only managed five baserunners (3 H, 1 BB, 1 E) until Burgos left the game after the 7th. His line: 7 IP, 5 H, 1 R/0 ER, 2 BB, 5 K, 9:4 GO:AO, 1 HBP... and he even chipped in with a hit, 1-3 on the game. The Stars bats didn't manage anything more than singles tonight, but got three straight two-out singles to plate three runs in the 3rd. Hunter Morris, Hainley Statia, and Anderson De La Rosa were the offending trio. Huntsville tacked on one more in the 5th, when Statia came up with his second two-out RBI single. Thankfully, four runs was just enough tonight. SS Josh Prince (not a typo) didn't play his first game of the season at shortstop tonight (credited with 2 at BB-reference.com), but it sure had been a while. He went 0-3 with one BB, was charged a throwing error to open the top half of the 5th, and a 6th inning Mobile single was scored as "sharp groundball to shortstop". Prince also turned a 6-3 double play in the 2nd. I don't think one game is worth using as any kind of opinion on his defense, but it's nice to see the Brewers using him there again. We'll have to see if this is just a one game fill-in, or if he's been moved back to short. Scooter Gennett bounced back from his 0-fer yesterday with a 2-4 game. Statia & De La Rosa both finished 3-4, and Morris was 1-4. Lee Haydel went 0-3 with one BB and one SB. Kentrail Davis was 0-3 with a sac bunt, and Juan Sanchez went 0-4. Darren Byrd pitched around two walks to keep Mobile off the scoreboard in the 8th, but Jesus Sanchez saw his 5-game scoreless streak come to an end. Sanchez surrendered four singles and two runs, but was able to get that 27th out on a called third strike. Huntsville PbP Burgos actually led off the three-run 3rd with a single: Huntsville Bottom of the 3rd -Hiram Burgos singles on a line drive to center fielder Evan Frey. -Lee Haydel grounds into a force out, shortstop Chris Owings to second baseman David Nick. Hiram Burgos out at 2nd. Lee Haydel to 1st. -With Josh Prince batting, Lee Haydel steals (7) 2nd base. -Josh Prince walks. -Scooter Gennett grounds into a force out, third baseman Matt Davidson to second baseman David Nick. Lee Haydel to 3rd. Josh Prince out at 2nd. Scooter Gennett to 1st. -Hunter Morris singles on a line drive to center fielder Evan Frey. Lee Haydel scores. Scooter Gennett to 3rd. -Hainley Statia singles on a ground ball to right fielder Marc Krauss. Scooter Gennett scores. Hunter Morris to 3rd. -Anderson De La Rosa singles on a soft line drive to center fielder Evan Frey, deflected by second baseman David Nick. -Hunter Morris scores. Hainley Statia to 3rd. -Kentrail Davis grounds into a force out, second baseman David Nick to shortstop Chris Owings. Anderson De La Rosa out at 2nd. The Stars got a little help from a passed ball to add their final run in the 5th: Huntsville Bottom of the 5th -Josh Prince flies out to center fielder Evan Frey. -Scooter Gennett singles on a line drive to right fielder Marc Krauss. -Hunter Morris strikes out swinging. Passed ball by catcher Ed Easley. Scooter Gennett to 2nd. -Hainley Statia singles on a fly ball to right fielder Marc Krauss. Scooter Gennett scores. -Anderson De La Rosa singles on a line drive to center fielder Evan Frey. Hainley Statia to 2nd. -Kentrail Davis flies out to center fielder Evan Frey. Huntsville Gameday
  14. Or that fans can't accept that every player & every team makes fundamental & mental mistakes. But when your team is losing a lot, you don't have the Ws to wipe the frustrations out of your memory banks.
  15. Roenicke has been reported to be getting all over the Brewers about poor fundamentals recently if you go by what BA has had to say on recent broadcasts. But "poor fundamentals!" and "mental mistakes!" are always two of the first talking points thrown around whenever the Brewers struggle. Doesn't matter who the manager is. It's happened under Yost, Macha, and of course now Roenicke.
  16. Excellent, thank you! Except for Saturday I can take Huntsville for the week too if you don't want to cover three teams. Thanks, guys
  17. Mobile 13, @Huntsville 8 Huntsville Box The Bay Bears beat up on Stars starter Kyle Heckathorn, and then reliever Dan Merklinger en route to the victory. Mobile was up 13-5 heading into the 9th, so while it isn't to be dismissed that the Stars added three runs to their tally, this game really wasn't any kind of close. Hunter Morris just keeps on hitting -- 3-4 tonight, including a HR & two RBI. His torrid start to the second half of the season currently sits at a slash line of .406/.441/.781/1.222. SS Hainley Statia went 3-5 with a double, as did RF Kentrail Davis (who also drove in one RBI). CF Josh Prince was 2-5 with a SB (stole 3B as part of a double-steal); LF Juan Sanchez went 2-5 with a double & one RBI. C Adam Weisenburger singled once. 2B Scooter Gennett was the only hitless Stars player on the game, finishing 0-5. R.J. Seidel worked two scoreless innings of relief of Merklinger. Huntsville PbP I really don't feel like linking any game action, but how about this for an added degree (pun intended) of difficulty for everyone involved in this game tonight: Weather: 101 degrees, clear. Huntsville Gameday
  18. With how bad he's been this season, I'd be surprised if any other org. claimed him.
  19. While I think objectively I agree, here are the Brewers' compensatory & supplemental 1st rd. picks from the last 4 seasons -- 2009: Kentrail Davis (1s, for Sabathia), Kyle Heckathorn (1s, for Shouse), Max Walla (NYY 2d, for Sabathia) 2010: None 2011: Jed Bradley (for the Dylan Covey non-sign from '10) 2012: Victor Roach (DET 1st, for Fielder), Mitch Haniger (1s, for Fielder) In this case, you might toss out the Bradley pick since it wasn't from letting a player walk. But my larger point is that the Brewers haven't yet done very well 'letting [Player X] walk for comp picks'. That's more about identifying talent for draft day than it is about operational strategy, but I think too often as fans we just assume good value will come from comp picks. So far, the '09 picks have been completely disappointing. Hopefully Roach & Haniger fare better.
  20. Yep, and I just found it word-for-word in the ASA (2006) rulebook -- A fair ball is a batted ball that: E. Touches first, second, or third base.
  21. Mobile 8, @Huntsville 4 Huntsville Box Apologies in advance, as I'm going to keep this short since I'm tired. The Stars fell behind 4-0 after the top half of the 5th, but by the time the third out had been recorded in the bottom of the 6th, they'd rallied back to tie the game 4-4. Unfortunately, the bullpen wasn't able to keep Huntsville in the game, as Mobile chalked up four more unanswered runs to secure the win. Starter Evan Anundsen didn't have a very good outing: 5 IP, 7 H, 4 R/3 ER, 2 BB, 1 K, 7:5 GO:AO. Brandon Kintzler allowed two runs in his inning of work, and really hasn't been good at all yet with Huntsville. New Star Philippe Valiquette allowed five hits in his 1.1 IP -- five! -- along with 2 R/1 ER. Tommy Manzella was back in the lineup today at SS, so whatever injury he'd been nursing the past couple of days obviously wasn't serious. He was 1-3 on the game with a double and RBI. Manzella was subbed out of the game, but it came as part of a double-switch in between the 6th & 7th. Josh Prince went 2-4 with a pair of doubles, and a pair of outfield assists at home plate! Prince was the only player involved in throwing the ball home on both occasions, not the front end of a relay. Hunter Morris was also 2-4, and he knocked yet another double to increase his Southern league-leading tally; Morris also had one RBI. Scooter Gennett went 1-2 (single) and walked twice. Domnit Bolivar came up with a pinch-hit (batted for the Anundsen) RBI double in the 5th in his only plate appearance. And thus ends the list of Stars who collected hits today. The only two walks drawn by Huntsville hitters were Gennett's. Huntsville PbP The three-run 6th that tied the game at 4-4: Huntsville Bottom of the 6th -Pitcher Change: Eric Smith replaces Chase Anderson, batting 9th. -Scooter Gennett walks. -Hunter Morris doubles (26) on a line drive to left fielder Daniel Kaczrowski. Scooter Gennett scores. -Hainley Statia grounds out to first baseman Yazy Arbelo. Hunter Morris to 3rd. -With Anderson De La Rosa batting, wild pitch by Eric Smith, Hunter Morris scores. -Anderson De La Rosa grounds out, shortstop Chris Owings to first baseman Yazy Arbelo. -Kentrail Davis reaches on fielding error by third baseman Matt Davidson. -With Tommy Manzella batting, Kentrail Davis steals (11) 2nd base. -Tommy Manzella doubles (7) on a fly ball to right fielder Marc Krauss. Kentrail Davis scores. -Offensive Substitution: Pinch hitter Juan Sanchez replaces Daniel Meadows. -Juan Sanchez grounds out, second baseman David Nick to first baseman Yazy Arbelo. Huntsville Gameday
  22. I've had it explained to me by a good ump that if a batted ball were to hit (& not pass) 1B or 3B, and wind up in foul territory, the ball is foul. In fact I also talked with the poster Jason21nl, and he relayed a story from one of his baseball games where a batted ball bounced off the pitching rubber & sideways into foul territory (& not past 1B or 3B), & it was ruled a foul ball. However, the more I've learned about rules over the years, the more I know to never think the way you understood things is infallible.
  23. Well Sabathia was just DL'd (groin strain), so if the Yankees are willing to pony up, they could well wind up with both once CC's back & healthy. His injury isn't thought to be serious; Girardi thought he'd be back & ready to go after missing two starts. http://content.usatoday.com/communities/dailypitch/post/2012/06/cc-sabathia-on-dl-until-after-all-star-break/1#.T-twNrUeOvA
