  1. I don't understand why there can't be a distinction drawn between Rose the player & Rose the manager. Pete Rose the player not being in the HOF is embarassing imo.
  2. Another perfect example of why MiLB stats should always be taken as a relative description of a player's success, & not absolute.
  3. Dave Bush? No, no, no, no, no. Not at all. Not one bit. No thanks.
  4. Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? No!
  5. If the plan is to only have a guy come up for a couple starts, then I absolutely don't want to see it be Thornburg. The plan should be to call up Thornburg & let him fly, but since Doug Melvin's running the show, that's not going to happen. Mike Fiers spot-starts, & going back to Estrada starts, here we come! Brewers Fever! Catch the sensation!
  6. Yeah, the Giants come across as huge whiners, which I can only take as a direct reflection of Bochy.
  7. I just assumed Melvin wouldn't call up Thornburg, but I'd love to see that move if DM is down.
  8. It's probably going to be Fiers. I guess I don't have a huge problem with that, but it's not ideal.
  9. It's an ideal time imo to let Peralta come up & get comfortable in the bigs.
  10. I actually think Weeks's approach has looked much better over the last four/five games or so. I think he's going to start hitting. He hasn't looked as lost at the plate imo, & the results should start coming.
  11. This last episode was my favorite of the (outstanding) season so far
  12. Well, yeah. That's what I was talking about.
  13. I think Aoki would have a just-enough type arm in RF. I totally agree on Hart 1B/Aoki RF for now.
  14. Agreed. But is Maysonet an upgrade over Izturis? Maybe... I believe he is. But yeah, Ransom isn't the answer either... neither is Maysonet, but you might as well play the better player at this point instead of Izturis.
  15. I don't mean that I expect squeeze calls to continue to work, but so far to me, it seems like Roenicke has had good results. I don't expect that to necessarily continue, but since they've worked alright the squeezes don't bother me as much as the disgusting Annexation of Puerto Rico*.
  16. So it sounds like West might have gotten tagged pretty well a few times. The wind was blowing pretty strongly again today in Appleton. Oh well though, there's no reason to try & focus on the negative from this start. I just wanted to point out that the wind was probably a fairly significant factor today. I'm going to be really interested to see how he progresses. The Brewers might have mined a diamond in the rough here.
  17. I don't think Ransom would be an upgrade over Maysonet.
  18. I've been excited about Lucroy since his draft day, but the way he's rapidly matured into a solid big-league catcher is honestly better than I realistically was hoping for. Even in his rookie season, you could see he just turns in quality PAs as the norm. It's too bad he doesn't have a stronger throwing arm, but aside from that I can't really find anything to complain about with him. Even with subpar arm strength, the rest of his defensive tools add up to equal a pretty damn good defender.
  19. Not at all a weird idea. In fact, it's an absurdly weird idea (imo) that Hart somehow wouldn't be able to handle playing 1B. My only guess is that he's told RR he wants no part of playing 1B, maybe only as an emergency sub or something. Fwiw I'd much rather have Aoki in the lineup over Ishikawa, since Aoki brings very good defense at a much tougher position in RF.
  20. I really believe Greinke will get a contract around $150M this offseason. Even though I absolutely love him as a player, I don't want to see the Brewers commit that much money to him. I don't think the Cain deal ($112M iirc) will get it done with the Brewers. In fact, my not-supported-by-any-facts take is that the Brewers probably offered him something around the Cain deal earlier this season just before talks broke down. My guess is they offered (appx.) the Cain deal, Close countered with something around $140-150M, & the Brewers said no thanks.
  21. The unique tale of a non-drafted signee who never actually pitched at the college (four-year or juco) level. Nice scouting there by Ryan Robinson (who is no longer with the Brewers, it seems). Yeah, his K rate last season at AZ just always jumped out of the boxscores. I can't wait to see him at Wisconsin... to be pushed there at just 19 years old is pretty impressive. If I'm able to see him pitch in person I'll gladly contribute what weak scouting 'notes' I can.
  22. I'm with you on Castro, except that I think he's going to wind up more like a 20-30 HR guy. His swing is so impressive, he's already pretty strong, & he's only going to get stronger.
  23. Aoki made a throw after catching a ball in CF on the warning track in San Francisco that I had to rewind the DVR & re-watch two or three times to make sure I hadn't seen it wrong. He threw the ball on a line (meaning, in the air the whole way) from the warning track & just overshot the cutoff man (Izturis iirc), who was about four or five steps out in the outfield from 2B. I think it's safe to say his arm is just fine. He hardly even looked like he had to put a lot on that throw.
  24. While I think as Brewers fans we can clearly see that Dillard wasn't trying to hit anyone, he just stinks... I can't blame the ump much for running him. And Blancofan is totally correct; RR getting ejected would've just been satisfying the collective Id of some of the fanbase.
  25. It's about physical talent, not one freak play. Maysonet is clearly a better hitter than Izturis at this point, & the gap on defense doesn't look very big at all... and might be in favor of Maysonet.
