  1. Obviously I have no inside info, but the way I read that is, 'We are really far apart on numbers, & the organization has to re-assess how much money it's prepared to commit to retaining one pitcher.' The one thing I would hate to see happen is this lead to an extension for Marcum, just because.
  2. Rickie Weeks 2B 4 years/$38.5M (2011-14), plus 2015 option As GamelToe (welcome to the board!) noted... yeah. Very good to be a Brewers fan in this instance.
  3. Wow, I love this thread. Thank you for putting the work in on getting this started, Tedaldtada.
  4. I like what little I've heard of Block as a standalone, and I hope he can get more comfortable & develop an on-air rapport with Ueck, but I have to assume he will.
  5. Yeah, beans & rice is probably one of her favorite staple dishes... and I should probably stop even trying to talk for her, since I'm not her.
  6. Well I'm not stressing over which source as much as I'm just avoiding the general red meats usually available at any grocer. I try to stick to leaner red meats when I do eat them. And yeah, obviously exercise is the best thing you can do, but I started participating in this thread when the discussion was on diet EDIT: I can only speak with regards to my gf, but she definitely takes care to track her protein intake... often relying on beans as a main source, but she also eats seafood from time to time as well.
  7. Just wanted to say thanks to everyone who's contributed to this thread, it's really a great read. EDIT: and to piggyback on LouisEly's comment about "lean" meat, I instantly start thinking of meats like Elk & Bison, though I know there are many others that are really good substitutes for beef. I definitely opt for a leaner meat whenever possible (history of heart problems on one side of my family, so I try to be very careful). Elk & Bison are the two that popped in my head, because I'm most familiar with them... and they're usually delicious.
  8. The Green HR was off a LHP, no less. Thanks for linking these, Master Mass!
  9. No, had time yesterday since it was the weekend. This week is going to be very busy for me unfortunately.
  10. Jake Odorizzi is mentioned in the "Other Top Outings By Prospects" section (5 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 8 K; pitching for AA Arkansas)
  11. Red meat (or just about any animal protein) isn't inherently unhealthy, but too often in American diets red meat is way overdone, and isn't processed or prepared to any real desirable standard... and often that does mean that it's unhealthy. I don't think anyone here is labeling "meat" as a whole as unhealthy so far. Obviously the source of whatever animal protein one chooses to eat is very important. I know it's low-hanging fruit in this kind of discussion, but the "pink slime" revelation recently is the extreme example of why knowing your meat's source is very important. If you're able, finding a good local source like directly from the farmer is the best way to know the meat you're getting is as safe and healthy as it can/should be. Farmers Markets are the best places (imo) to shop for red meat, in addition to being the best places to shop for fruits and veggies. A good local meat market should also usually be a good choice. If you're getting good quality red meat/meat, & you're not overdoing it in your diet, there's absolutely nothing wrong with continuing to enjoy it.
  12. Curious... what equipment does MPR allow in its leagues? Houlie said they '[took] away good bats'; could you clarify what they changed from '11 to '12? And I assume you guys are playing a men's league & not coed?
  13. Don't forget the comment that 'hey this totally isn't racist, but it's usually white guys that 'get' the Cardinals Way... let me point out, I can name one black guy that I feel fits this description as a prospect in low-A ball I've totally seen play more than just this ST... so, like I said, not racist'
  14. I agree that people (me included) are likely making a bigger deal of today's Gamel/Ish change... but it's the first series of the season against the main hated rival, who knocked us out of the '11 postseason. So it's obviously painful to lose this series, even though it's early in the season. And, with zero games to talk about in so long, the Crew could've lost to the Astros & people would still want to overanalyze everything. On top of that, the concern for those most up in arms (probably me as well) is that Roenicke will do what he hinted at, & use Ishikawa like Kotsay last season. As in, a lot. Which is ok if Ishikawa's bat speed improves, but very much not ok if it doesn't imo. Taylor Green so perfectly fits the mold of how Roenicke wants to use the 'Kotsay position'. He can play 1B/2B/3B & spell guys, two of whom could benefit from a few extra off-days. The outfield doesn't need more depth; Aoki, Plush, & Gomez need to be on the field as much as possible, given pitching matchups. If one goes down, it should be Schafer getting a call, not Ishikawa/Green. I just hope the Brewers get Green up sooner rather that later. Obviously the Cardinals are a very good team once again, and I don't want to see the team takes risks it doesn't need to.
  15. Gonzalez is exactly as advertised, & like 3&2 said, is still a plus fielder. He's going to be a huge upgrade over Betancourt last season & almost exclusively due to his defense. Weeks has looked shaky early with the glove, but at least his arm still looks good. I watched the up-the-middle jumping throw he made in Game 1 (iirc?) in really slow-mo, & the call should have been 'out'. It was bang-bang and I'd never get out of a dugout to argue if I were manager, but Weeks's throw did get the runner. Gamel's reaction seemed to indicate to me that he knew the call was wrong. And on Gamel, I think he's eventually be one of the better-defending 1B in MLB. He should also be a big upgrade over the 2011 defender he's replacing, and combined with Ishikawa, the defensive improvement at 1B this year is going to be even bigger than at SS. So far on Ramirez, I'm very 'meh'. He does seem to have a little more athletic ability & range than McGehee, but Casey definitely has the better arm. Ramirez is probably going to defend close enough to Casey's '11 that it won't be a huge improvement or decline. I'd like to see a little more of Aoki in the OF, especially CF -- just to get an idea what he can do. Gomez has been tremendous again so far, & Morgan is still the same good defender he's been. If Braun & Hart can be just average on defense, then I really don't see a weakness on defense. Maybe the catchers' overall throwing, if I had to really get picky.
  16. To put things in context, Ishikawa is a guy who put up a sub-.400 SLG in AAA last season... playing in the PCL on a west-coast-based team -- aka the part of AAA that always gets players' good hitting stats questioned since it's so hitter-friendly. He looks like bat speed (or lack thereof) may be a very valid concern. I just hope that, if he does wind up being barely able to hit MLB pitching (which a .751 OPS at AAA/West-Coast-PCL as a older, non-prospect would suggest), he's not kept around long.
  17. Every at-bat for Gamel, though, is really important since the sooner he adjusts to MLB pitching, the better for both him & the Brewers. In addition, every rep he can get in live games on defense is important. This one game isn't a huge problem independently, but if it's an indication of how Roenicke plans on using Ish as his 'Kotsay 2012', then we have a problem on the larger scale.
  18. Final: Nashville 1, @New Orleans 0 Sounds Held To One Hit, Avoid Sweep With 1-0 Victory Baker Tosses Five Shutout Innings Of One-Hit Ball In Win Nashville Sounds METAIRIE, La. - The Nashville Sounds found the win column for the first time in 2012 as the New Orleans Zephyrs were held to four hits in a 1-0 shutout in the finale of a four-game set on Easter Sunday at Zephyr Field. After dropping the first three games of the series, the Sounds avoided a sweep and recorded the second shutout in the Pacific Coast League this season. Nashville posted five shutouts in 2011. It marked the first 1-0 game that the Sounds were involved in since Mike Fiers authored a complete-game, three-hit shutout of the Iowa Cubs on August 31, 2011 at Principal Park. Previous to that, it also marked the first time Nashville won a game while recording only one hit since June 16, 2011 vs. Round Rock, where Brett Carroll belted a solo homer in a 1-0 victory. Leading off the fifth inning, Sounds first baseman Sean Halton singled for Nashville's only hit in the contest. Third baseman Taylor Green then reached on a fielding error, followed by a sacrifice bunt by shortstop Edwin Maysonet to put both runners in scoring position. After New Orleans pitcher Tom Koehler intentionally walked Corey Patterson to load the bases, catcher Martin Maldonado hit a deep sacrifice fly to bring home Nashville's only run. In his Brewers organizational debut, starting pitcher Brian Baker (1-0) tossed five shutout innings of one-hit ball for the win. The right-hander walked two while striking out four on 73 pitches (45 strikes). Relievers Dan Meadows, Amaury Rivas, and Victor Garate each worked scoreless innings before Mike McClendon shut the door in the ninth for his first save of the season. Koehler (1-0) came away with the loss after surrendering the unearned run on one hit and three walks in six innings. The Sounds wrap up their season-opening road trip with a four-game stop in Oklahoma City, beginning tomorrow. Right-hander Seth McClung will take the mound for the Sounds against RedHawks right-hander Henry Sosa. Nashville edged the RedHawks (AAA-Astros) by a 9-7 margin in last season's series, but lost six of eight in Oklahoma. Nashville Box Score Not much to talk about here -- there was one hit, & Halton had it. Farris, Patterson, Erick Almonte, & Logan Schafer each walked once. Neither side could muster anything more than a single in the hit column. Nashville Play-by-Play The best chances New Orleans ever got to score were in the 2nd and 6th innings (never got a runner past second base, though). Zephyrs leftfielder Bryan Petersen tried to stretch his 8th inning single into a double and get himself into scoring position with the game on the line. Logan Schafer wasn't having any of that -- New Orleans Bottom of the 8th Pitcher Change: Victor Garate replaces Amaury Rivas, batting 9th. Offensive Substitution: Pinch hitter Donovan Solano replaces Dan Jennings. Donovan Solano strikes out swinging. Chase Lambin flies out to center fielder Corey Patterson. Bryan Petersen singles on a line drive to left fielder Logan Schafer. Bryan Petersen out at 2nd, left fielder Logan Schafer to second baseman Eric Farris. Nashville Gameday
  19. Hah, no (clearly, given your description) I've never listened to screech owls
  20. Whoops. Nashville it is!
  21. Last summer I tried grilling pizzas (which is really simple and good) and the crowd favorite one, I grilled a bunch of vegetables first, then chopped them up and threw them on a pizza with some fresh mozzarella and basil. I tried grilling pizza, and completely botched it. I wanted to fling the charred remnants like a frisbee. I'll have to try again I guess; yours sounds awesome.
  22. Hearing a couple of owls calling back & forth is pretty cool, it just sucks you had to be woken up to hear it.
  23. And Maas Hass, thank you for once again being the real one to keep the L.R. going. Getting it started each day is huge... because the way you start it, it's like 75% of the effort put into the thread
  24. I'm in for tonight. I'll get Nashville & Wisconsin.
