  1. Yeah, not sure if anyone else caught it, but there was a shot at Romney in last night's episode... oh, but his father George, of course... in no way was that meant to mirror our contemporary time EDIT: Please don't take this thread political, my winking-face was about the subtlety of the line
  2. In a different way (obviously), it reminds me of how David Chase made Tony Soprano somehow an endearing character/'good guy'
  3. If I'm Greinke, my starting point is the Cain extension -- 5 yrs./$115 or so. Because ZG would likely get at least that much offered to him on the first day of free agency after this season. If he goes to FA, he might be looking at more like $125M. I just hope the Brewers were prepared for this type of price range, & are able to plan accordingly.
  4. If he's not too pricey & will sign a split contract or go to AAA... you can never have too many power arms for the bullpen.
  5. And he was dealing with an injury, which hugely affected his production. From July on, his ERA was well below 3.
  6. Get on this, scientists!
  7. Awesome I thought so too, nicely done WTP. I look forward to more of your player valuations as the season goes on.
  8. Are MiLB rosters allowed to go to 26? I don't know why I have that in my head, but for some reason I thought they were allowed to be bigger.
  9. Yikes on both fronts, especially Bucci though
  10. Everything here. Well summed-up, Baldkin.
  11. Wow. I think this is ultimately bad news for the Brewers, but I guess we just have to wait & see.
  12. McCalvy's blog post on said announcement Hart received medical clearance Monday to re-join the Brewers’ big leaguers. He is scheduled for seven innings on Tuesday night, seven more on Wednesday afternoon, and, barring a setback with his surgically-repaired right knee, will be in right field when the Brewers start the regular season on Friday against the Cardinals. ... Hart will be four weeks post-op on Tuesday. He had surgery March 6 to repair two cartilage tears in his right knee, and the Brewers predicted a 3-5 week rehabilitation. Using that timeframe, Hart is coming in right on schedule. “He pushed it,” Roenicke said. “He got out there and got after it with the idea he would like to be ready for Opening Day. He would have been OK if we thought it was better as far as going to Triple-A for a few days, but he’s pretty happy about [breaking camp in the Major Leagues]. Anytime you work hard, you want things to go well, and I think this went well.” So job well done to Corey & the Brewers' medical staff. Here's hoping he doesn't have any recurrences or setbacks.
  13. I sure hope this winds up being correct. Never underestimate the power of the dark side.
  14. If you don't recognize that Brooks Conrad can outhit Cesar Izturis by a landslide, I'm at a loss for words. PEM's post describes the Conrad-Izturis situation perfectly. Izturis is likely still a better defender, but the difference in offense more than makes up for it. I just hope Melvin is able to find a better backup SS option as the season rolls along.
  15. Wisconsin is going to have a really nice roster this season. I'm looking forward to going to games to see players this season, & not just 'go to the game' for fun.
  16. After his first two months last regular season, he was -- to the tune of a 2.80 ERA. Semi-coincidentally, everything after June was right past the 60 IP mark, which was used as a benchmark in an interview by Jimmy Nelson last season as the point where he said he typically feels like he's really at full form. ST usually accounts for about 25 IP or so, so I think we're going to see the Greinke we thought we were getting in 2011 all season long this year.
  17. How do you mean? Just that she didn't call Don after getting her news?
  18. wow, what a classic Jenkins follow-through/pose
  19. No, it doesn't. Like you just said, it's about the players.
  20. Yeah (I mean, I didn't call Matthew Weiner or anything, but still). Here is January Jones when she was actually pregnant.
  21. McCalvy's latest blog post, "Hart looks like a go for Opening Day" I think the post title could be a bit misleading, since it doesn't sound like anything will be known for certain until Hart's exam on Monday. But since McCalvy is around the team so much, the title might hint that everyone's expecting Hart to get the green light. Fingers crossed for tomorrow.
  22. In-game decision making is Roenicke's biggest weakness. Clubhouse/personality management seems to be his strongest.
  23. I searched & couldn't find a thread devoted to this show. There needs to be one. I'm really looking forward to tonight's episode after last week's basically 2-ep. season premiere. The teaser at the end of last week seemed to indicate Betty will be back in the storyline, which I like since I think she's an awesome character. I'm also looking forward to seeing where the rest of the women in the series go this season... Peggy, Joan, Sally, even Megan.
  24. Don't you... just don't you even dare go getting my hopes up like this!
  25. I saw him speak at Hillel the last time (?) he spoke on the UW campus. Totally reversed my perception of him, he's really genuinely a huge baseball fan living out his dream job. He fielded a Q&A session after his remarks, and was so gracious & accommodating.
