  2. Axford is one of the few players the Brewers probably wouldn't trade for nearly anything. He's exactly the kind of arm this organization hasn't developed enough of, & is still super cheap. I get the discussion, just exploring possibly selling at an all-time high... but the Brewers finally are in the position of having a lot of good pitching & there'd be very little to gain by trading away your best (& cheapest, basically) reliever.
  3. I think I really, really like Lance Berkman. To paraphrase Helen Seinfeld, "How could anyone not like him?"
  4. I wanted to bump this to say that this is the most anticipation I've had for an offseason, ever. I feel like last year's trades were such surprises, but this go-round we know there will be big changes. I'm secretly hoping there's a huge addition at SS or 1B/3B.
  5. Ok, thanks. I was just trying to figure out if the invitation to ST 2012 was a step up for Edwin or not. Sounds like not really.
  6. Fwiw, Maysonet's slash line last season (as mentioned in the MLBTR post), was .290/.347/.386. The line you posted there was his 2009 line with Houston. Was he invited to 2011 ST? I can't remember.
  7. Will the Red Sox really go after Reyes after signing Crawford last year? That was my main question as well. I still think they'd be used as leverage, at the very least.
  8. Combined numbers of McGehee, Yuni and Fielder average out to a .259 avg / .327 OBP / .433 SLG / .759 OPS with horrible defense. Giving 1,184 PAs to players as bad as Yuni and McGehee essentially negated the MVP-caliber performance Fielder posted. That's painful. I agree that Gamel & Green would both be able to OPS in the mid-700s, with overall better defense than Fielder/McGehee. McGehee will still be in the mix imo as a 1B/3B reserve, which would be fine, it would just hurt the defense a bit.
  9. Red Sox could definitely be in on Reyes, that would really be all it takes. Philly, too.
  10. If Oswalt's healthy, I don't know that the Brewers should be competing to sign him on the open market. I'd love to have him if the price is right, though; he's been a non-Brewers favorite of mine since he played in Houston.
  11. He said he doesn't care for Braun & Fielder as much as some other players... yes, that means he shouldn't follow the team.
  12. How is that a positive? I could give a crap if I ever see him play again when he leaves. Because I like him & enjoy watching him hit. Shouldn't have gone with the royal "we"
  13. Prince would pound the ball at Camden. Perfect park for him. As a Prince Fielder fan (& Brewers fan), this would be so cool to see. He'd be a candidate for 50 HR every season.
  14. Yeah, that was the discussion -- thanks CWH. I like Gindl, Schafer, Gamel & Green. But think roughly Skip Schumacher to Jon Jay (I use Cardinals players since the Cards actually seem to give these guys chances to contribute) as the range for where those guys will wind up contributing in the bigs. Nothing wrong with that, you can save a lot of money by staying out of free agency for the bench or role players. I just hope the Brewers start using those three guys at the big-league level. Having Schafer as a CF option over Mark Kotsay would have been nice this season, for example. I think the Brewers will start Gindl, Green, & Schafer back in Nashville, and they'll be the first guys considered when a position player has to hit the DL. Ultimately, I think all three guys have fairly close overall values. If Gindl can prove that his power isn't a western states PCL mirage, he becomes a lot more intriguing. He's been able to cut & hold his strikeout rate as a hitter, & it wouldn't surprise me if he goes all Taylor Green on the PCL in 2012.
  15. That Napoli home run was sweet. I've liked him for a while, and that was a classic shot for him.
  16. Peralta yes, Fiers no (imo). I'm really looking forward to Peralta's arrival, and the Brewers are in the perfect situation -- they could risk trading Marcum or Wolf for a position player upgrade & just slot Peralta into the MLB rotation... or they could just keep the depth & look to free agency to make any positional upgrades. I think Fiers can be a good MLB pitcher, but maybe not as a starter.
  17. Fielder to the Cubs is as good a guess as any this offseason. It hurts, but at least we'll still see a lot of the big guy.
  18. Ouch. That hurts. Beyond that, from anticipating Braun/Fielder every 2nd or 3rd inning to watching that lineup? meh. It's an anticlimactilineup. It's filled with players who were complimentary pieces on the 2011 Brewers but don't necessarily compliment the Brewers of the future. It's actually not that bad of a lineup with platoons considered. But I agree on missing Fielder; that's just going to be weird. For the lineup, there are maybe three spots that you could look to upgrade via trade or free agency. Two of them are corner spots, where bats are more available. I think the Brewers can make a big impact on offense if the right deal comes along. I think the team has the right approach right now, and that's to first cultivate a full starting pitching rotation. The depth is there, and one or two prospect arms (out of roughly five top prospects) panning out as big-leaguers doesn't seem too unrealistic to expect. If the Brewers can extend Greinke, I think the foundation is set up well for the next four or five seasons. I'd love to see a long and annoying rivalry with the Cardinals.
  19. That's fair on Gamel, but I'd also say I wouldn't be surprised to see him hit 20 if he got 600 PAs or so. He's a good hitter, not Prince Fielder, but he can hit. I guess Boston, Chicago, or Texas is where Fielder winds up.
  20. Gindl had pretty extreme home/road slugging splits, didn't he? Maybe that was Green, but I think it was Gindl.
  21. I'm thinking a backup catcher who can get a .330 OBP and play OF & 1B is pretty valuable. Yeah, I'd love to see that backup catcher spot used creatively. Doumit's not good behind the plate, but he can't be worse than Kottaras. Good pop & versatility. I just like the idea of using this spot to get another 150-200 PAs out of a good lefty/switch bat.
  22. The Brewers absolutely poached Morgan from the Nats. They have him under salary control through 2015, so there's no rush to move him. I think 2011 is a decent guess as to what he'll hit in the near future, and he's an asset on defense. I like the player version of Nyjer Morgan.
  23. Once K-Rod can choose which team he plays for, you can be guaranteed it'll be somewhere he can close. He made no secret of not liking being out of that role in Milwaukee (but kept things fairly professional). Someone will pay the man.
  24. C Lucroy 1B Gamel/RH vet (FA) 2B Weeks 3B Green/RH vet (FA) SS Santiago (FA) LF Braun CF Morgan/Gomez RF Hart If not Ramon Santiago, then I hope the Brewers can sign Barmes at short. Neither one should break the bank, and would look good on 2-year deals if that was needed to sign them.
  25. Hasn't the knock on Gennett's defense been that he's 2B-only in terms of big-league projections? I thought I read at some point this past season that he wasn't doing well even at second base. All he's done is hit, though, and if someone like Rickie Weeks can work himself into a competent defender, then why not Scooter.
