  1. I'm almost positive that the album was posthumously released. You could look it up, you know
  2. Via MLBTradeRumors: Probably just a leverage move, but I hope the Brewers don't reach this stage with Jungmann, Bradley, or Lopez.
  3. Yes. Any competent CF would have been able to reach it, Carroll included. To clarify, the game I'm speaking of was 7/23. 8th inning bloop single was by Giants catcher Chris Stewart.
  4. The NL Central just seems a lot worse because 1) The Pirates are tied for 1st and 2) There's more teams. Don't forget 3) The Brewers, Cards, Reds, & Pirates are all significantly less talented than either ATL or PHI
  5. Responding to TBadder's post here: I'm wary of players who don't have a complete season at a level unless they're overpowering the league like Nick Ramirez, and I hardly think Taylor is overpowering AAA. I want to start by saying this is all meant in a civil tone. Typically, a highly-drafted college player having success (or even dominating) in Rookie league ball isn't an indication of much. For comparison's sake, Ramirez is only three years younger than Green, & is only now at low-A ball. If Ramirez is not only able to move up to Nashville & begin his season there in three more seasons, but also post a mid-.900s OPS, the Brewers will be extremely fortunate & probably have their first baseman of the future. Green hasn't had "injuries", he's had one injury to his wrist, & is fully recovered now. In all of AAA, there are three players (Brett Lawrie is one) who are younger than Green with OPS rates better than his .942; his OPS is 16th-best overall. This is made all the more impressive imo since Green is just two seasons removed from the surgery to help repair a compression fracture in his wrist. I realize that you may assume Green's production at AAA is nothing special, but the reality is that it's actually quite impressive. surprising power It's not surprising unless you didn't expect him to return to pre-compression fracture form. He's a talented hitter who's entering his prime.
  6. He's done it before, but not that I'd seen so blatantly right at fans. I believe that's actually an optical illusion -- the gesture is pointer finger extended iirc. Of course I can't go find a nice screencap to prove it, just my memory. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif I thought he sticks his thumb out, too. Hopefully someone else will be able to explain what I'm trying to say, as I'm sure failing. EDIT: Here we go, Yahoo's Big League Stew MLB blog has a better look at it: http://l.yimg.com/a/p/sp/editorial_image/dc/dc863d35569cffc8e196440b929c834f/nyjer_morgan_flashes_controversial_hand_gesture_towards_giants_fans.jpg EDIT 2: I do believe that this was a mock flipping of the bird, & not that he was making a "T" with his arms. Definitely makes me think of Spaceballs as was mentioned earlier in this thread.
  7. Of course, the Cards have Jon Jay, who'd posted a .885 OPS at the time of his callup (2010) was a 25-yo non-prospect who was obviously only going to hit .150. Except that his career MLB OPS right now is .792. It's almost like there are good players stuck in AAA that just need the opportunity to play.
  8. The only thing that even remotely makes sense to me is that Green is on the PTBNL list. That also makes me irate to consider, but there's no other explanation that makes sense to me as to why he hasn't been called up.
  9. Green gonna hit? I don't think so. He's not a power hitter; he's had half a season a AAA. And his progress through the minors was anything but smooth. His progress was impeded by a wrist injury, & he appears to be fully recovered at this point. So you don't think he's going to hit based on what? Probably not his .541 SLG, since he's 'not a power hitter'. I think it'll take Green a least half a season not to be embarrassed by major league pitchers Unlike Casey, of course. Green will instantly provide more offense & more defense than McGehee. Casey has been nothing short of a disaster this season.
  10. July 6th he homered. July 4th he had a double. Prior to that, you have to go back to a June 19th double. Watch out for the white-hot McGehee! His OPS Since 7/6 is .614. Since 6/19 it's .520 http://i.imgur.com/Jxlh3.jpg
  11. The only thing I was addressing is how the BABIP had affected or contributed to his AAA production, nothing more.
  12. Paul dislocated his right shoulder and tore tendons in both knees after he fell down two flights of stairs while leaving the Iowa Cubs’ stadium. *cringe* Get well soon, Stu
  13. Suspended (9th inning): AZL Brewers 5, @AZL Mariners 5 Looks like thunderstorms were the culprit behind the suspended game. Here's a screencap of the local radar at 10:00p MST: http://i.imgur.com/q3e2P.png The storm was actually moving from ENE to WSW. AZL Box Score This one was a good game throughout, so it's a shame they weren't able to finish it tonight. The Mariners took a 1-0 lead in the 1st, & the Brewers were able to score twice in the 3rd & twice in the 4th to jump back ahead 4-1. The M's scored two in the bottom half of the 4th, & the score remained 4-3 until the Brewers plated a run in the 7th. The Mariners rallied for two more in the 8th to tie the game & held the Crew scoreless in the top half of the 9th. However, the umpires had seen enough, weather-wise, & pulled the teams off the field. Tomorrow -- the dramatic conclusion! EDIT: Nope, not Monday 7/25. These teams next face each other August 14th Jeffrey Saba made the start for the Brewers, & threw five innings. He allowed eight hits, three runs (two earned), walked one & struck out five. '11 UDFA Will West worked two scoreless innings, allowing one hit, zero walks, & striking out three. Greg Davis allowed three hits & two runs (both earned) in the 8th. West is a LHP, listed at 6'4" & 170 lbs. Outside of one outing back on July 3rd, he's pitched well; he boasts a 15/3 K/BB ratio in 15 IP. He's made two starts & four relief appearances so far. I'd be interested in a scouting report on this young pitcher, who just turned 19 on Saturday. No extra-base hits for the AZL Crew in this one (yet). Kevin Berard & Hitaniel Arias each were 2-5; Arias had an RBI groundout/fielder's choice. Steve Felix was 1-3 with two walks & two RBI. Catcher Jimmie Pharr didn't have a hit, but walked three times & threw out two of three attempted basestealers. Jalen Harris & Renaldo Jenkins each walked once; Jenkins was hit by a pitch to force in a run, receiving one RBI for his troubles. Jenkins also stole a base & committed a throwing error at shortstop. Mariners starter Jochi Ogando walked five in four innings, & was the main reason for the Crew tallying seven free passes in the first nine innings. The M's also committed one error & catcher Stephen Cochrane was charged with three passed balls. The Brewers scored runs seemingly every way aside from the extra-base hit in this one. AZL Play-by-Play The Brewers had a chance to go ahead in the 9th, but couldn't cash in: AZL Brewers Top of the 9th Steve Felix flies out to center fielder James Zamarripa. Hitaniel Arias singles on a line drive to right fielder Rigoberto Rangel. Jimmie Pharr walks. Hitaniel Arias to 2nd. Renaldo Jenkins called out on strikes. Brandon Macias pops out to first baseman Chris Andreas. Hopefully they can extend this one to extras & steal a win.
  14. Final: Idaho Falls 9, @Helena 1 Six Run Second Sinks Brewers By Nicholas Allen The Brewers allowed six runs in the second inning as Idaho Falls cruised to a 9-1 victory Sunday at Kindrick Legion Field. Mike Strong (2-1) allowed six runs, but just two were earned in 1.2 innings for Helena. The left-hander allowed four hits, two of them home runs, walked three and struck out one. The Chukars added three runs against Thomas Keeling but Tommy Toledo and Alex Jones kept Idaho Falls off the board over a combined five innings to finish the game. Yadiel Rivera singled to score Kenny Allison in the third, but the Brewers could not muster much offense on the day. Aaron Brooks (2-1) held the Crew to just two hits and one run through six innings, striking out seven for the Chukars. Brewers third baseman Kyle Dhanani had his Pioneer League-leading 13-game hit streak snapped, going 0-for-4. Following the contest, Helena first baseman and reigning Pioneer League Player of the Week, Nick Ramirez was promoted to the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers of the Midwest (class-A) League. The fourth-round pick of Milwaukee batted .369 with 8 homers, 30 RBI in 22 games including a stretch of five straight days with a home run. The Brewers begin a three-game set Monday against the Casper Ghosts in Helena. Helena Box Score Tommy Toledo induced two groundouts, one popout, & one lineout to go along with his two K's over two innings, & didn't allow a hit. Alex Jones struck out four in his three innings of work; he allowed a double & hit one batter. Jones recorded four flyball outs to just one groundball out. Yadiel Rivera's RBI single was his only hit on the day. Catcher Parker Berberet & centerfielder Robbie Garvey had the only other hits for Helena, both singles. Nick Ramirez made one error, while second baseman Gant Elmore made two. Helena Play-by-Play Just because four of the six runs Strong allowed were unearned doesn't mean he was just unlucky: Idaho Falls Top of the 2nd Mark Threlkeld reaches on fielding error by second baseman Gant Elmore. Henry Moreno walks. Mark Threlkeld to 2nd. Edul Escobar homers (2) on a fly ball to left field. Mark Threlkeld scores. Henry Moreno scores. Runey Davis lines out to right fielder Max Walla. Adrian Martinez grounds out, shortstop Yadiel Rivera to first baseman Nick Ramirez. Tyler Chism homers (5) on a fly ball to right center field. Darian Sandford singles on a ground ball to third baseman Kyle Dhanani. With Richard Espy batting, Darian Sandford steals (12) 2nd base. With Richard Espy batting, Darian Sandford steals (13) 3rd base. Richard Espy walks. Daniel Mateo doubles (5) on a fly ball to center fielder Robert Garvey. Darian Sandford scores. Richard Espy scores. Pitcher Change: Thomas Keeling replaces Michael Strong. Mark Threlkeld grounds out, third baseman Kyle Dhanani to first baseman Nick Ramirez.
  15. Per Nicholas Allen of the Helena Brewers, Nick Ramirez has been promoted to Wisconsin.
  16. Is Yuni a 'good' or even average player, no? Is he a better option every day at shortstop than Carroll? I'd say yes. You would be wrong, then. He's a more effective hitter, & far better defender. Even if he can only start 4 or 5 times a week, that's a ton more valuable than Betancourt's negative value.
  17. I'd have no problem acquiring Carroll as a utility guy, if the cost was low and he supplanted Counsell on the roster, but he is not an upgrade as a starter at short in my view. I appreciate that you aren't sold on him as an everyday player, but to say that he isn't an upgrade over Betancourt is out there. Betancourt isn't an 'everyday' player either, in that he sucks.
  18. Gindl has a 25 point OPS advantage over Hart on the power of a .338 BABIP in AAA. As you can see from the rest of his MiLB career, however, he has basically carried high BABIP rates at every level of the minors. .338 is not really out of line with his career norms. It can be due to hitting a lot of line drives as easily as it can be due to luck.
  19. I'm not sure what you have against Jamey Carroll. RockCo doesn't like that Carroll's 37
  20. I think it is reasonable to think the a Gindl/Boggs platoon could out produce Hart offensively. If Gindl is competent on defense I think they would improve the defense as well. I'm not sure if it is reasonable to assume that, and like I said I (personally) don't want to see any of Gindl's service time wasted in a platoon, since he's still only in his age-22 season & hitting well at AAA. I think Gindl v. RHP could be better than Hart v. RHP, but I'm not sure Boggs would outdo Corey against LHP. I do know you're including defense into all of this as well, though.
  21. Agreed. If he's a decent buy-low availability, just make the move & send him to Nashville. I doubt he'd be all that cheap, though.
  22. Ok, I'll finally try my hand at this, Jungmann/Bradley/Lopez included. 1. Wily Peralta 2. Tyler Thornburg 3. Jed Bradley 4. Taylor Jungmann 5. Jorge Lopez 6. Taylor Green 7. Khris Davis 8. Caleb Gindl 9. Kyle Heckathorn 10. Nick Bucci That's probably not very good, given that I've literally never seen any of these players in person save Khris Davis a handful of times last season with the T-Rats. Others considered (no particular order): Orlando Arcia, Santo Manzanillo, Ruben Ozuna, Osmel Perez, Yadiel Rivera, D'Vontrey Richardson, Kentrail Davis, Hunter Morris, Cody Scarpetta, Drew Gagnon, Scooter Gennett, Danny Keller, David Goforth, Nick Ramirez, Michael Reed, Max Walla, probably others I didn't consider but should've... Random comments: From the "others" list, I really like Yadiel Rivera. Really like Manzanillo's velocity & hope he's a legit bullpen option sometime soon. It was hard for me to keep Orlando Arcia, Ruben Ozuna, & Osmel Perez off the top 10, but apparently I'm racist like Ken Macha. I also like Max Walla, just based on the numerous descriptions of his raw bat speed & physical tools -- good to see him starting to show some results in Helena. I still like Kentrail Davis's swing, but it's confusing why his results haven't been better yet. I'm hopeful on D'Vo, but he's still such a work in progress. The only guy I really have a hard time hopping on the bandwagon for is Gennett. He's just so, so small. I hope he proves me/doubters wrong, and he's definitely been hitting of late with Brevard County.
  23. Responding to a post by gifted1 in the Bring Up Taylor Green thread: If McGehee's lack of performance at the plate isn't enough to get him demoted, maybe his lack of effort will. It was absolutely pathetic last night when he got caught off third and didn't even force a throw. I actually thought Casey looked pissed off after getting tagged out. Like the coaching staff/RRR hung him out to dry, which they/he completely did. I can't put that on Casey, honestly. I would've liked to see him hustle more, but he realistically probably can't outrun the catcher, so what's the real point?
  24. Is that flexibility worth $9-10m a year? That's a good question, honestly. I'm not sure either way. I wouldn't have wanted to see Caleb Gindl called up to platoon, that's for sure. So it'd have to have been Carroll & Boggs I guess (for me), if you're talking AAA guys. And I'm not sure that would've equaled an .800 OPS to be honest. But probably mid-.700s with much better defense, so I can't really disagree with the general point. However, I still don't know if that means Hart isn't worth his $9M this season or $10M next. I think it's a bit too broad-sweeping to just assume a platoon can produce as well as a regular like Hart. You could really question almost any contract in that manner, which is actually an interesting thought to bat around in my head.
  25. Davis actually was just promoted to AA -- played his first game there last night, iirc. That doesn't change your general point, however, & I'd argue that the organization has been holding him back, as he probably should've been at AA months ago. I guess what I'm trying to say is that I view Davis as really only one level behind Gindl, which speaks more to Gindl's success than anything about Davis -- just imo.
