  1. Casey hit the ball hard several times last night. Definitely looked like the "real" Casey. If he can be the .800-.850 OPS guy he's been the past two seasons the rest of the way, that'd be big.
  2. I had to look up who the Ham Fighters are. Well played sir. Fwiw, it's Nippon Ham, with the nickname "Fighters". Although "Ham Fighters" is funnier.
  3. Final: Helena 11, @Casper 4 Helena's big first inning dooms Ghosts Casper Ghosts A five run top of the first helped propel the Helena Brewers to an 11-2 win over the Casper Ghosts at Mike Lansing Field, earning them a split of the 4-game series. Helena took a commanding 7-0 as they scored five runs in the first and two runs in the second off of Ghosts starter Geoff Parker, but they got on the board in the bottom of the second. Carl Thomore doubled with one out and got to third on a ground out. He scored on a passed ball to make it a 7-1 game. The Brewers added a run in the third. [Nick] Ramirez homered for the second time in the game, and fifth time in the series, when he homered with a runner at first to center field in the 7th inning to make it an 11-2 game. The Ghosts added two runs in the ninth. Carl Thomore drove a run in with a double, and he scored on a sacrifice fly by Julian Yan. 5. How'd the Giants look last year right around this time? 54-43 through 97 games (compared to 51-46 for 2011 MIL)
  6. Rivera should never have been sent down from Wisconsin. Just imo. EDIT: Also, Rivera's name was displayed as "Yadier Rivera" during the MLB broadcast tonight as they highlighted his cycle from yesterday. Not cool!
  7. This is part of a PM I received today, clarifying that Brae Wright wasn't merely rehabbing in 2010 as I'd assumed & stated in the AZL link report post. I didn't think fwright222 would mind if I shared this part, & I know BF.net MiLB forum readers would like to know.
  8. What a cool thread. I hope I have time to work on my own list before the new P50 goes up. Thanks for all the posts so far, great read.
  9. So you move Weeks to 3 and then you would complain about the 5. Not true at all, the whole point is making sure the worst hitters are furthest down in the order. Not that it'll convince you, since all we are is internet nerds that complain about everything.
  10. For the Pirates' sake, I hope they don't give up any significant prospects for rental players this season. Glad to see some success for them; it's certainly long overdue. Now if they make a move to add someone like Hanley Ramirez...
  11. Final: Helena 12, @Casper 3 Rivera Cycles as Brewers Pummel Ghosts By Nicholas Allen Yadiel Rivera singled up the middle in the ninth inning to complete the cycle Monday night in Casper as the Brewers capped off a 12-3 victory over the Ghosts. It was Rivera's fifth hit of the night and raised his average to .331. The shortstop doubled to lead off the game, homered in the second, doubled again in the sixth and tripled in the eighth. He also walked, scored five runs and drove in four. Rivera was not alone as the Brewers pounded out a season high 19 hits and 12 runs. Newly crowned Pioneer League Player of the Week Nick Ramirez went 3-for-4 with a home run, four RBI and two runs scored. Max Walla and Adrian Williams also had three hits each and John Dishon and Parker Berberet added two hits apiece for Helena. Michael Strong (2-0) gave up just one hit, a solo home run to Angel Reyes, in seven innings of work for the victory. The left-hander walked four and struck out three. His ERA is down to 3.76 on the season. Helena Box Score Not sure if you heard, but Yadiel Rivera hit for the cycle. He also walked once (4th inning), that can't be all that common of an occurrence. I'd guess that a walk derails a cycle attempt more often than not. The box score has Ramirez with five RBI, not four like the game story stated. Ramirez & Berberet each had a double; Dishon had a triple as well. Thomas Keeling allowed a two-run double in the 8th after walking two Ghosts batters. Alan Williams allowed a leadoff single, but got a strikeout & then a double play to end the game. Helena Play-by-Play Yadiel Rivera cycle recap time... 12. Ok, so 95% bunting, 5% hit-&-run? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  13. http://www.pixelcharmer.com/fieldnotes/images/believe.jpg Once I get around to making my top 10 prospects list, Yadiel's going to most likely be in it.
  14. Holy cow, you just scared me. I searched through the draft forum to see where the news was that Lopez spurned the Brewers & is going to college. I was relieved when I couldn't find any, & realized your context was probably "had signed already." At least I hope so.
  15. How much time is a player allowed to spend on the Inactive List? I have to admit I don't recall hearing about the Inactive List before.
  16. I wonder why Morgan doesn't hit 1st. I don't think there's any doubt that it's because Roenicke believes 100% that the most important trait of a #2 hitter is how good he is at sacrifice bunting. I hate this.
  17. With Braun out, I'd rather see Weeks-Morgan-Hart-Fielder if Corey doesn't like the 5-hole. Or flip Morgan & Weeks in that grouping. I don't like moving a good OBP out of the leadoff spot to put an inferior one there, but Corey's still a good hitter so I can't get too worked up about it. As far as bad things I can imagine RRR doing, this isn't high up on the list. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  18. Yeah, the Pads aren't going to look to trade Headley. Classic 'they take our junk & give us useful pieces' idea.
  19. It's funny to imagine the outrage this would've caused if Brandon Phillips had done this in St. Louis.
  20. It was nice to see Casey come up with a couple timely singles, but he didn't exactly hit the ball hard yesterday. Over the past two seasons, McGehee is a guy that worked the count well & hit the ball hard. This season he's just been flailing & doesn't seem to have a plan at the plate.
  21. I have to say, it's nice to see a different lineup... McGehee 7th, solid. Wilson 8th, alright. Kottaras 6th, ok seems good. http://island-adv.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/banghead.gif EDIT: But who am I to argue with genius that uses a guy batting .244/.301/.333 against RHP so far this season in the 3-hole?
  22. And you notice K Rod pitched the next inning. You do need to have a pitcher for all of the innings And K-Rod is a much better option, statistically & stuff-wise, to get out a LHB. He would have been the best choice to face the succession of Gonzalez, Ellis, & Helton. And if the Rockies still hit K-Rod around, at least you can say the manager put his team in the best position he could to win.
  23. "It's not like he had a setback or anything. It just didn't loosen up for him." That's certainly encouraging. Or at least not troubling.
