  1. Plus, a lot of people have an anti-Kotsay agenda they feel like they need to defend - the good things he does are ignored or discredited while his miscues are amplified and exaggerated I'd like to see some examples of what you mean. Kotsay is what he is, a 1B/DH-caliber defender that can hit you a single or double against RHP. I don't think anyone's out to get him, he's just not a very roster-worthy player.
  2. So you want someone that plays great defense, has a decent AVE, has a high OBP, and good SLG in CF? Unless I'm missing something, he didn't say anything about great defense, just asked about their bats.
  3. Jemile has had a great season at AAA so far. Hoping he continues his success.
  4. Pretty sure I would trade McGehee for Stewart. Not like 100%, but maybe 95%.
  5. I also didn't really like it, for the same reasons. It's a rare beer for me that has been hopped to the point of being unpleasant, but this one was. Usually, when I see a beer that grades out as well as Torpedo has so far on BeerAdvocate, I 'get' it. I don't get this one. I can't give a beer an A grade just because it uses a ton of hops. Lots of hops doesn't automatically = a good beer. Just seems like the beer *should* be better, but it isn't. Hops + 'meh' supporting flavor.
  6. Had Sierra Nevada's Torpedo Extra IPA tonight. Beyond the strong hops flavor, imo the flavor is pretty bland. Not one I really liked, but the Beer Advocate crowd seems to love it.
  7. This is the question I'd most like answered. My vague recollection from the MiLB forum is that he's passable in CF, but not a plus out there.
  8. By all accounts, Katin is a solid defender. There's no way he's not at least as good overall as Erick Almonte, but RRR apparently makes his decisions based on who impressed him in 2011 ST. Katin should absolutely be the RH backup OF at this point, he's in all likelihood a nice upgrade over Almonte.
  9. I disagree. How is this team going to contend this season by trading arguably their best offensive weapon? TheCrew07 is never about saying any given year is 'The Season', he's about making smart long-term acquisitions. Don't build for one year, or two years, etc. -- build for sustainable long-term success by targeting MiLB players for trades, not guys like Grienke or Marcum. So, while trading Fielder for Trout* would not help the big-league club in 2011, it would be a good move overall, so he would want to see it done. * Disclaimer: This is not a realistic trade idea, just clarifying the strategy TheCrew07 employs in general (not just this thread)
  10. I'll hope for Schafer, but it will probably be Gomez.
  11. To be fair we don't know if he is going to test the market. Has he said it? If the Brewers let him walk yes he will test FA, but if they trade him to a team that has the money to re-sign him (Angels) then they could very well work out a deal. He has said it by retaining the services of Scott Boras. Boras works for Prince, yes, absolutely, but guys don't hire Boras to not play the free agent market.
  12. Gamel initially did say he thought 1B was tougher than OF. Here's what he had to say yesterday in an interview: Don't know how he feels about OF play, I really doubt that he's a realistic option in the OF at this point unless it's to give Braun or Hart a day off here & there. I think he could learn to be passable in the OF, but the Brewers are going to have a huge hole to fill at 1B, & that's where Gamel will play (imo).
  13. I'm thinking that Gamel projects as a better version of Overbay. This is a perfect comparison imo.
  14. I don't think Cron has caught all year though. He's already been labelled an AL player. Please no. I'm tired of this type of player.
  15. I would think that the Angels would favor Fielder over any one of their hitters and would want a player like him more than a top prospect that has yet to prove himself in Mike Trout. I would think they would not. Like Oxy said, "7 years of cheap Trout for 1/2 season of slightly below market Fielder? Not going to happen." This isn't something that's like right on the edge of being plausible or not. This is Brewers fans dreaming waaay too hard.
  16. I don't care if Trout's the #1 prospect in baseball, an extended Fielder (proven MLB superstar) is worth more than a rookie Trout (unproven future potential). Just because you think this is true doesn't make it true, though -- it's your opinion. There is absolutely no way the Angels should be dealing a prospect like Trout for the chance to try to extend Fielder or re-sign him as a FA. I think the original suggestion that they might be willing to trade him for Fielder in & of itself is way too pie-in-the-sky. By this standard, once upon a time Ryan Braun wasn't worth as much as Alfonso Soriano. That doesn't mean it would've been a good idea to trade an "unproven" Braun for Soriano (expensive bat-only star) before Braun hit the bigs, though. At some point you have to have faith in scouting & that a guy is producing in the minors -- Trout is currently dominating AA pitching to the tune of a 1.000+ OPS... as a 19-year old. I'm probably taking more of an issue than I should be with your post, but the notion of proven/unproven just grates on me. I understand the typical success rate for prospects isn't high, but a guy like Trout is hardly a typical prospect. Trout is worth a lot right now, especially in the current MLB trade market where pre-arbitration star talent is more valued than ever. He's certainly worth more than a partial season of Fielder. And let's be honest, Prince is going to play the FA market. He's not going to re-sign with a team without at least seeing if there'll be a bidding war for his services. So, if you're the Angels, why would you not only trade for Prince when you are just going to have to give him the highest FA offer anyway, and on top of that, send arguably the best hitting prospect in the entire league for him? Just doesn't make any sense imo.
  17. I know AndThat (Toby)'s opinion was that he wasn't impressed. However, even if the fairly pessimistic assessments of Gamel's defense are 100% accurate, he's going to be an upgrade over Prince in all likelihood.
  18. “My footwork was always the issue. I would get lazy with my feet and throw a ball away,” he said. “It is less stressful [at first]. I don’t have to worry about throwing it anywhere. It has to be less stressful for everybody.” ... “That is probably why they were so adamant about me going to first base,” Gamel said. “I don’t care where I play. I just want to play.” Certainly a far different portrait of the young man than has been painted by certain reporters. It sounds like he's getting comfortable playing at first, and is hungry for his shot. I'm actually really looking forward to Gamel being the 1B of the near future.
  19. I really hope the Royals have a resurgence. I have an uncle & cousin who are lifelong Royals fans (live near KC), but just in general, too. The Royals used to be a proud franchise, and their fans deserve better. Hopefully it'll be fun to watch these prospects blossom at the MLB level.
  20. It's not like Counsell can play that often, though I would like to see him at SS a little more. Counsell could absolutely handle playing more than he's been utilized so far, though. And I agree that I'd like to see him more since Betancourt isn't an asset on either side of the ball.
  21. I'm beginning to think the only thing Roenicke does well is communicate. I was pretty sure he'd be a solid manager that would just drive me crazy with small ball tactics, but so far he's seemed fairly clueless. We need to get a robot version of Kam Loe, so RRR can keep using him so much.
  22. Great news for Taylor Green: If Brewerfan has things that qualify as memes, this is my favorite one so far
  23. Chris Mehring is a gem. Since we know you peruse these threads, Chris... THANK YOU for your excellent coverage!
  24. Step 1: Bat 5 best hitters in top 5 spots, remaining 3/4 in lowest spots Step 2: ? Step 3: Profit! I really wish RRR would just get out of his own way. But it looks like Corey is going to have to re-establish that he can hit. For some reason RRR has been ok with McGehee struggling & batting higher in the lineup, but not Corey. I've stopped trying to figure it out.
