  1. I like the Scarpetta mentions, but I have to go with either Hunter Morris or Kentrail Davis. I don't think Davis would necessarily be a surprise, but I agree with ramssb99 that Kentrail could rocket up prospect lists this season. I hope battlekow is right on Yadiel Rivera, too.
  2. To the average fan I'm sure the trades look genius It's a good thing we have you to bless us with your well above-average fan ability I get your points, I think everyone does at this point. It's just, well, not nearly as simple as you make it out to be, as usual.
  3. Here's video I shot of Evan, does he look 240? If he's a legit 6'8", he wouldn't have to be too think to be 240 lbs. A roommate of mine in college (he'd played D1 hoops) was 6'6"/6'7" & about 235. He was obviously pretty solid, but by no means did he look like a weightlifting junkie.
  4. I think Ron Roenicke may have just provided the first known definition of what, exactly, a "professional hitter" is: So, it's basically what everyone has assumed it is, a guy that doesn't really strike out often when he goes up to pinch hit.
  5. Although Brusewitz dunking all over Dallas Lauderdale certainly will stick with me for some time. I don't think I'd even seen Brusewitz *dunk* before. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  6. I have one word for today's game: Ouch.
  7. 100% true, but I would respectfully request that you no longer mention this out loud in order to avoid a jinx. I'll do my best to comply http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  8. Just wanted to bump this thread; the main moves since it was posted were adding Saito & extending Weeks. I know some will still not get on-board with the moves (or philosophy behind them) Melvin has made this offseason, but I certainly can. Marcum Greinke Saito Weeks This has been as good an offseason as I can remember in my time as a Brewers fan. Since I'm such a huge Weeks fan, that's probably my favorite move of the period, but adding Marcum & especially Greinke are probably more important moves. I was just daydreaming about the 2011 season this morning, and wanted to say that it would be pretty hard for a front office to have a better offseason than the Brewers' has just had.
  9. Congrats, Sam! Are any of your past appearances archived for us anywhere?
  10. I just wanted to say again how great the ASU student-run Peanuts & Cracker Jack blog has been this Spring Training. It was a great idea that's been basically fully realized thanks to the student crew maintaining the blog. This has been, without question, the best coverage of Brewers' ST that I've ever seen -- combining the good work of TH & AM with the P&CJ blog has been ideal. Just got done with the photo tour of the White Sox ST stadium, Camelback Ranch. I love stadiums of all kinds, so I'm looking forward to the rest of their photo tour series.
  11. Thanks for all the updates, MH. Really looking forward to another MiLB season full of your great compilation work. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif Not sure which is more sad, the Huntsville radio situation overall (heck, just Huntsville overall), or their pitch that adding a fan announcer is to "add to the fan experience". What does this -- "we'll have the traditional radio guys out there going nuts" -- even mean?
  12. It was Witrado[/url], who didn't cite any particular source last spring. In fact, here's a reader comment from that blog post: In this blog post where Witrado initially charged that Gamel tore the lat because he didn't loosen up enough, he told readers to check back in tomorrow. There was no blog post with further information the next day. McCalvy's initial coverage of the injury didn't include any mention of a lack of stretching, nor did his follow-up the next day.
  13. The Brewers actually had the 3rd-best SB success rate in the NL last season (8th-best in MLB). It's hard for me to dislike that, but I will enjoy seeing Weeks, Braun, & Hart run more like they did under Yost/Sveum.
  14. Gomez stealing bases & being fast has very little to do with his ability to not make outs. Until he improves at getting on base, giving him more at-bats doens't help the offense, it hurts it. He can wreak havoc on the basepaths at the bottom of the order. Meanwhile Weeks & Hart are guys near the top that you want stealing bases, so it's not like the team doesn't have speed up there.
  15. Taking my homerism out of it, I don't see how Jordan Taylor isn't the best PG in the country. I'm not trying to necessarily debate this by saying the following... Kemba Walker is pretty amazing, too. But it's looking like Taylor will be the Big Ten POTY, and who knows what other awards he could win. I have to ask NDOGG, if he's around, if he still thinks Taylor isn't someone who might head for the NBA after this season/project well for the NBA. Not gloating or anything like that, just honestly wondering.
  16. That was the best offensive performance by a Badger I've ever seen.
  17. Per McCalvy, Lucroy has been fitted with a splint & cleared to resume catching bullpen sessions & do light throwing.
  18. I don't know if you can call it a pattern (& I know what you mean). This is an oblique injury that seems to be affecting him almost exactly like it's affecting Hart. But I doubt anyone will change their minds on this.
  19. He needs to take better care of himself if he wants to be a Major Leaguer. Let me get this straight -- Corey Hart shut down for weeks for an oblique issue, no problem, he's a big leaguer. Mat Gamel, same type of injury, he needs to take better care of himself?
  20. McGehee proved last year that he has the intelligence and work ethic to adjust to opposing pitchers. Did he prove that by dropping from a .859 OPS in 2010 to .801 last season? I like Casey, but there's quite the fanatical divide on him at BF's forums imo. He's not an amazing player, but the fact that he was plucked off the scrap heap makes him so appealing to many. Likewise, he's not a bum, but the fact that he's posted a career .812 OPS & 117 OPS+ with subpar defense hasn't convinced others that he's as "solid as they come". I just hope he can stay healthy & productive, & cash in come his arbitration seasons so he can set his family up for their lives. Certainly no one questions that Casey is a great person & father. I noticed the USA Today article that was linked in the ML forum stated that Mack does a Uecker impression -- this I have to see!
  21. I think the whole C issue is being blown out of proportion, many of us didn't see him as a C, and he certainly didn't take to it during instructs. And, iirc, playing/trying catcher was Brett's idea, as he thought it would be the quickest path to the bigs. When he realized he wasn't a good fit there, he changed up. Hardly something to hold against a player.
  22. Seems like a really nice 25th-man style pickup. I especially like the left-handed hitter aspect. I'll have to follow Skelton this season, hopefully at Nashville.
  23. Per McCalvy, it sounds like that, unless something changes drastically, there's no long-term deal on the horizon. Casey doesn't exactly sound thrilled.
  24. I would rather not extend McGehee, & go year-to-year with him. If the deal buys out two FA seasons, & is a very nice hometown discount, then I guess I could see doing it. Otherwise, there's really no point imo.
