  1. Following this Brewers-Cubs game, man, how badly do this RF squad have to play to warrant a shot?? Gerut 0/3 today with a .143 avg. so far. Roster decisions should be made on talent, not results from a tiny handful of PAs. Gerut has posted a career OPS v. RHP over .800 & is a solid defender. I'm guessing Katin could do neither. There are a lot of guys in AAA that hit the pitching there well, and just aren't that special when it comes to MLB. Katin could be a bench bat to face LHP, but I seriously doubt he would be a positive in any bigger role than that.
  2. Ken Macha: prospect killer
  3. Suppan did exactly what was needed today...keep the Brewers in the game The Brewers' offense kept them in the game, not Jeff Suppan's 7.20 ERA
  4. Please see this post. There is absolutely no reason why Gallardo shouldn't be going on normal rest against a division rival later today.
  5. Ken Macha sucks. This is the second line of my post, just so it technically isn't a one-liner.
  6. The Red Sox are probably a pretty viable trading partner after this season. Their MiLB system is pretty well-regarded, & they'd have as good a shot as anyone to re-sign Prince before free agency... or after he reaches FA
  7. I think any other window rolled down (not just the other back one) would alleviate the pressure
  8. I'd be thrilled with the Peterson hire in terms of the whole organization even if the only thing it yields is fewer pitching injuries. That would be huge.
  9. Nah, soft pitches out of the zone are easy pickins for those batters with the guts to go after them and put the fat part of the bat on the ball. Stavinoha didn't have anything to lose. Yeah, most guys can hit it out 50% of the time or more off one knee.
  10. For now, it's amusing to me that he hesitates to use the word "walk" in roughly 99% of his interviews
  11. Frankly, if this report is true, I don't see Boras backing down from that number. If it's what he wants, he'll be able to get it from some team. I really don't think so. At least one of Howard/Pujols/Gonzalez will likely be on the FA market, and that will help hold down what Prince can get.
  12. Just wanted to link to the thread I started a while back for 2010 video highlights... it'd be cool to keep this season's all in one place http://forum.brewerfan.net/viewtopic.php?t=21873
  13. The point is to not let that happen, though. If the Brewers wait & offer him after a full season, you're talking about trying to re-sign a guy that's likely in the top 5 of 2B in the NL, entering his last arbitration season (aka walk year)... and he will be more expensive. If Weeks can stay healthy & produce like I expect him to do, he will probably see somewhere around $5M+ for his salary in 2011, and then be poised for a big payday in free agency. Of course, this all assumes he remains healthy. And that's the Brewers' main bargaining chip in this situation, and I believe they should use it. Would a deal something like $5M / $8M / $10M / $12M (4 yrs./$35M), with a club option & cheap-ish buyout on year 4 be reasonable? The only thing I'd want the Brewers to wait on before moving ahead with Weeks is a Fielder extension. It shouldn't take much longer for the club to find out if extending Prince is realistic or not, imho. Even if the Brewers extend Weeks to the kind of contract I mention (not sure I have the value right), & decide he's a luxury they can't afford along with Prince, he should have a pretty solid trade value. If we can't keep Fielder, I definitely think Weeks needs to be retained.
  14. Sam, those stinking graph images are hard to link to -- showing up as "No Data Found" right now. Casey explained how to do it, iirc, in the lineup thread somewhere around page 12 or so
  15. I liked the Marlins announcing team the past two seasons (had Extra Innings). Not sure if it's the same guys this season or not. The Reds' tv guys are bad.
  16. Panda has been their third baseman, so I don't think you can dismiss SF as a trading partner.
  17. Yes, but clearly that tells us everything we need to know
  18. It makes a lot of sense if phrased right, but he phrased it as poorly as a native English speaker could possibly muster. I'm not 100% convinced he's a native English speaker. I think I'm 99.9% convinced.
  19. Same thing happened to me. I love Sothern Comfort over Crown Royal. Jameson, Johnnie Walker, and Jack Daniels are better whiskey's though if you are looking for the hard stuff.Bushmills Black is my favorite Irish whiskey (haven't tried anything above Jameson's standard brew, though). I really don't like bourbon.
  20. That seems like a classic Boras tactic... leak a number higher than any realistic amount in the hopes of driving up the baseline of clubs' offers. Nothing has really changed as far as I can tell, though, in terms of this situation. Prince is still under team control through next season, Boras is still his agent, and Adrian Gonzalez, Albert Pujols, & Ryan Howard are all still eligible for free agency after 2011 as well. The only thing I think this leak indicates is that the Brewers & Fielder/Boras are further apart than we may have thought. Mr. QL has it right -- Prince won't be getting that kind of money from anybody.
  21. Yost --> Macha is just one more bit of proof that there is really no such thing as a good MLB manager (yet)
  22. I realize it's sacriligious to say such a thing, but the Willie Mays play wasn't that spectacular at all. A huge play given the situation, of course. But the play itself is no different than plays made every day in today's MLB. Not having watched games back then, maybe it was a spectacular play for that era. The Polo Grounds' outfield was huge. Massive. The amount of ground Mays covered was pretty incredible... iirc he was shaded to left-center. Besides, any play's 'greatest of all time'-ness should absolutely be related to how the play compares to the players' peers. There was one CF that had even a shot at that catch in those days, and it was Mays. EDIT: http://www.ballparktour.com/Polo_Grounds_Dia.gif
  23. The funny thing to me about this Hart stuff is that he's not only gotten good results at the plate so far, but he's looked good in doing so.
  24. Thanks to everyone for the responses. We contacted the local animal control branch of the police department. The officer asked us to please *not* use pepper spray on the dog (http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif), and told us he'd pay a visit to the owner. We've been out of town this weekend, so no idea what happened or how things will go. I just hope the crappy dog owner was cited for violating the leash law -- if the dog were kept on a leash, roughly 99% of the problems here could be avoided (the woman can't really control the dog even on a leash, but at least the dog doesn't have free reign to just take off running).
