  1. Link Good grief. What a horrible accident. EDIT: Saw this story via Deadspin, which also has followed up with this post, with multiple lugers commenting on how dangerous they felt the Whistler track was. Don't watch the embedded video clip at the bottom of this post if you don't want to watch this man die. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif
  2. Great deal for the Giants, now they just need to stop pitching his arm off.
  3. The "art" of booing? Oh man. I agree with logan.
  4. Seems like 'Hart won't be able to take the criticism in the hearing' was just nonsense
  5. $700K is not going to hamper the Brewers in any way this season, not to mention the fact that it's entirely plausible that Hart is worth the $4.8M. Maybe not likely, but certainly not unrealistic. Would the Brewers liked to have saved that $700K? Yes. Is it going to hurt them this season? No. Defensive position... though I get the general point you're making in the comparison.
  6. So Xavier Nady, the only one listed comparable to Hart, got $3m despite not even playing last season and we're supposed to be incredibly upset that Hart got $4.8m? $700K makes no difference to the Brewers This. I think the upset fans need to get over this in a hurry -- there's really no sense in getting caught up over money that doesn't impact the Brewers' ability to do business or contend. Hopefully Corey comes out of the gates hot this season just like he did in '09. If he doesn't, the booing is probably inevitable.
  7. One of the biggest reasons to hate the strike in 1994 is the season he was compiling: .353/.487/.729/1.217, 211 OPS+, 34 2B, 38 HR, 109 BB/61 K. All through 113 games. If ever there were a first-ballot HoFer, it's the Big Hurt.
  8. So I tried it, and it rocks. B+ at beeradvocate. I'd go with an A grade, personally. Picked up a 6-pack of Mighty Arrow & one of Ranger IPA last weekend. Sadly, they are gone. I need to replace them for this weekend.
  9. If you knew that, why did you post what you did?
  10. I wouldn't say they've done nothing well. Wright & Reyes are solid pieces from their farm, and Fernando Martinez (20yo OF prospect) looks to have some promise.
  11. That's about the same, probably a tick faster (esp. if there's heavier traffic in Chicago)
  12. I know it would be really unpopular in New York, but I wonder if the Mets wouldn't do better to just blow it up this season. They have a lot of really valuable pieces still, and would return a king's ransom in a Marlins-style firesale. They aren't realistically one or two players away from contending imo, and the NL East looks pretty tough this season. The ownership & management are already incredibly unpopular, and as long as they could demonstrate to the fans over the next season or two that there's a method to the madness, I don't think the fallout would be critical. However, I sincerely doubt the Wilpon ownership is capable of making this kind of move (& I sure wouldn't trust Minaya to orchestrate trades well), so until the Mets are sold I guess they're stuck in this mess.
  13. Yeah, I agree with homer. Law seems to whiff quite a bit.
  14. Link According to Buster Olney & Ken Rosenthal... I guess just proof that a big market doesn't ensure anything; you still need competent management. Thank goodness I'm not a Mets fan.
  15. One reason I'm skeptical that the closer role will go away is that players can make so much more money as closers. The save stat is one that imo will need to be devalued by organizations if they don't want to keep paying through the nose for 'closers'.
  16. How's Tyson doing, danzig?
  17. "Transaction Privilege Tax" Classic. *vomits*
  18. FanGraphs will release its first (fantasy baseball) publication: The FanGraphs Second Opinion: 2010 Fantasy Baseball Companion
  19. Half time show has to be mainstream, and upbeat. Dave Matthews will put everyone to sleep. You are clearly only vaguely familiar with the band at best. They have plenty of uptempo selections.
  20. This has been refuted somewhat, but I'll still take Abraham's word on it. He was great in terms of covering the Yankees & providing info, and as Chad Jennings -- Abraham's replacement for the Lohud Yankees Blog & beat -- put it,
  21. You confuse me sometimes, Crew. You will go on at length about how you don't want soft-tossers or pitchability guys, but now you make the comment that you hope they don't get too hung up on measurables. I understand that the best approach is to combine physical tools with good pitching ability, but you seem to contradict yourself a bit. I hope I don't offend you, as that's not my intent. It just seems a little like talking out of both sides of your mouth. (I posted this here so as to not hijack the '10 Coaching Thread)
  22. EDIT: Please see here. Responded to something in TheCrew07's post about pitching, & didn't want to hijack this thread.
  23. Awesome stuff, battlekow; thanks for sharing.
  24. Like Invader pointed out, this is a Peterson-influenced signing, not Macha. How is Heether being declined a shot? Melvin has already announced that he's scheduling 'B games' to make sure everybody gets reps.
