  1. What do people think of adding another Wild Card team in each league? My idea would be a WC round elimination playoff, then follow the playoff structure as-is after that. What made me think of this is the absolute dominance of the WC by the AL East runner-up in recent seasons. Additionally, there's usually at least one other team in each league worthy of making the postseason. For example, last season would have seen a WC round of SFG@COL & TEX@BOS. I know this would extend the postseason, but honestly just doing away with the ridiculous off-days in the schedule now would rectify much of that.
  2. Link I really like this pickup for the Twins. They were already the favorites in the AL Central imo, and this just further cements that. 2B was probably the biggest hole on their roster. I'd bet Felipe Lopez will sign relatively soon now. I'll be interested to see where he winds up.
  3. Given the Brewers' current roster, there is no way I'd trade Suppan for Guillen. We already have at least 4, & probably 5 OF if you count Edmonds, that can outproduce Guillen -- 4 or 5 out of 5 roster spots. Right now, we have roughly 10 pitchers that can outperform Soup... out of about 12 roster spots. Both Guillen & Suppan are grossly overpaid at this point, but at least Suppan could actually help us.
  4. Like Ennder noted, they updated the projections, so take a look now.
  5. I feel for MU fans this season. What a tough year so far. They've certainly showed that the talent they do have is very worthy. It's just frustrating to see them drop so many close games. I just hope they aren't *that* team this year that proves they can play with just about anyone, but misses the NCAA tourney because they just didn't win enough of the close ones. I really hope they can get 10 or 11 wins in the Big East, as like LouisEly mentioned, that should be good enough to get into the Big Dance.
  6. So, the Royals should make a sell-low deal on this risk that their pitcher could get hurt? I was referring to the initial deal of Suppan + Hart. Apologies if that was unclear.
  7. If the badgers had to play a schedule in these conferences they would not be in the top 5. That is the list. Well, now that you've backed up your absurd claim with facts, we can all agree! I mean, why bother substantiating anything? It's much more fun to troll & make ridiculous statements, because you can just claim later you don't have to back them up. I watch college basketball more than any sport and before the season, if all of you were polled, you would not have picked the badgers very high, just as most of the so called experts. I watch a ton of college basketball, and have been doing so for years. This doesn't mean I am some sort of self-declared & self-legitimized expert. And for the record, I was very high on this UW team right from the get-go this season.
  8. Saving 10 Million on Meche isn't a good reason? Why would they take a bad deal, though, just to save on a pitcher that's probably going to be worth his contract? They can just wait until they get a better offer, and I'd have to imagine that around the trade deadline they'll get more than one.
  9. So I guess the expectations of fans is the same as mine, low. Obvious troll is... obvious?
  10. Ah, I see. Getting to the Sweet Sixteen... just 'meh' Now let's see those lists of what teams you have ahead of Bucky in the Big 12, Big East, & ACC
  11. So because they beat one team, at home, they would finish well in a different league? Nope, but it's better empirical proof than, 'Hey you guys, your team isn't good!' Stevo already outlined things quite well with regards to the ACC/Big 12/Big East comment. And if you are going to use the Mich St win, they lost their best player durng the game as well. Not that they were going to win anyways. All teams lose guys so stop making excuses./ I don't need to make excuses. The Badgers whipped an elite team shorthanded, so no excuses necessary. Like you noted, Lucas got hurt well after the game had been decided. It doesn't matter if all Big Ten teams had all their guys, they are not a threat to win anything this year in hoops. "Win anything"? So basically the only conference that's worth a crap is the one that the National Title winner comes from? Because otherwise I'll just gladly remind you of your wise words once three or four Big Ten teams are in the Sweet Sixteen. But I'm sure I won't have to worry about you making excuses. I know I sure would -- don't forget the Big East, though
  12. I don't know where the Big East debate came from either but Wisconsin would not finish top 5 in either the Big 12, ACC, or Big East. Sorry to burst your bubble. This is so wrong, it's hilarious. Sorry to burst your bubble. The team they beat in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge, ranked #5 or 6 nationally at the time, I think that team was from the ACC. Now they put a beatdown on one of the best teams in the country in MSU (very athletic, to boot) with their top two offensive options out for basically the entire first half... then without one of them in the second half, once Hughes returned from foul trouble. I don't care if they played at home or not, that's impressive. The only thing anyone can hold against the Badgers at this point is the loss at UWGB.
  13. So if we sign Prince, then what? Who do we surround him with? For the pitching, as of now it's looking like two or more young & fairly cheap/affordable SPs. For other positions, C, SS, 3B, & CF should be cheap/affordable as well. LF is obviously a very good bargain, and it shouldn't be too expensive to either develop or acquire a solution for RF beyond 2011. 2B is a bit of a wild card -- if Weeks performs like I believe he will, he could easily be the luxury you'd have to sacrifice in order to retain Fielder (that or RF). I just don't see a huge budgeting problem when you'd essentially be retaining Prince through his mid & late 20s, likely until he's 30 or 31. The flip side of that coin, of course, is that 1B is theoretically the easiest spot to find offense for a NL team, so Fielder's value could well be greater in terms of the trade return he'd bring. Honestly, I wouldn't have a problem with either direction for the Brewers.
  14. Not to mention that they beat them by 18 points without arguably their best offensive player... and without their other top offensive player for the vast majority of the first half due to foul trouble.
  15. For some reason, Cedeno isn't listed as a qualified batter, but he has more ABs (151) than some of the guys on the 'qualified' list -- at least, when you sort by OPS. If you sort that page by ABs, it looks like you can see everyone. I think it's just a poorly-maintained webpage.
  16. Clever but beneath you Touche... I probably shouldn't have gone there
  17. The badgers are a surprise but doing well in this conference does not say alot. If you follow the Badgers closely, they most certainly are not a surprise. And your obvious bias against the Big Ten makes it hard to take your stance seriously. As Homer said, the Big Ten has clearly been one of the best conferences in the country. Wisconsin even satisfies your arbitrary "NC" comment -- took down then-#6 Duke in the ACC-Big Ten Challenge.
  18. How can you not love Bo Ryan? Link -- Remaining schedules -- MSU @ Ill. v. Purdue @ PSU @ Ind. v. OSU @ Purdue v. PSU v. Mich Purdue @ Ind. @ MSU v. Iowa @ OSU v. Ill. @ Minn. v. MSU v. Ind. @ PSU OSU v. PSU v. Iowa @ Ind. @ Ill. v. Purdue @ MSU @ PSU v. Mich. v. Ill. UW @ Mich. v. Ill. v. Ind. @ Minn. v. NWU @ Ind. v. Iowa @ Ill. Pretty hard to not feel good about Bucky the rest of the way
  19. The fact is the only current major leaguer that put up numbers that equate to what Escobar put up was Pablo Sandoval, a .330 hitter in the NL last year. Actually the fact is also that Ronny Cedeno, he of the .240/.280/.346/.626 career MLB line, came darn close to equalling Escobar's production. Between small samples & the lack of overall pitching talent, I don't think we should put too much stock in anyone's numbers. It's nice to see that Escobar raked, but aside from feeling good about it I don't see the production telling us anything new about the players.
  20. At the time, I didn't think the loss at UWGB would look that bad come Selection Sunday. Now, it's probably going to mean the difference between a #2 or #3 seed, #3 or #4, etc.
  21. Alright! Yeah, you guys have Taylor & the Badgers' PG situation pegged correctly. He was awesome tonight. Losing Bohannon & Hughes will stink, but this team has the chance to be special two years in a row.
  22. That's good detective work, hawing
  23. I was worried about Morgan going off when Jarmusz had to sit with two fouls. But man, you said it. Wilson & Evans just look like they're not even freshman anymore.
  24. And I think it was great to see how good the Badgers looked after Hughes had to sit out with the two fouls. Taylor looked a bit more assertive on offense, and the other guys were looking for their shot(s) too. But defense -- wow -- I don't think you can say enough about how great the team defense was that half.
  25. Woo! +15 at halftime! Stay focused, kids. The MSU defense is going to be furious in the second half. Need to match that on your defensive end, Bucky. Let's go!
