  1. PAC 10 is only sending one School... California That's just incredible, but in talking to people I know that are Pac-10 fans, they are pretty forthright that this season is a really low one for the conference.

  3. Well, if you discount that whole 'bringing baseball back to Milwaukee', then yeah -- burn the witch!!
  4. Link Here's a link to Prince Fielder's page, just as an example.
  5. For some reason, the Snickers/Betty White commercial is nowhere to be found on that CBS archive. I know it was in the first quarter, iirc one of the first commercials played.
  6. I loved the Betty White Snickers ad... the fiddlin' Beaver also made me laugh -- even though I can admit it's just because I found fiddlin' beaver to be a funny image. Also liked the 'keep your hands off my momma' Doritos commercial. The Kia commercial with the toys was good, too. For some that haven't been named yet, I really liked the Audi commercial with the Green Police, the Intel commercial where the robot Jeffrey gets his feelings hurt by the co-worker raving that the new processor or whatever is the 'greatest thing we've ever made'. I also liked the classic-style Budweiser Clydesdale/Cattle commercial... but that's more due to the fact that I like that Bud commercial as a vintage format. Here's the CBS archive of the Super Bowl commercials
  7. What do you mean circular logic? My thought was that it'd be tough to rank by conf. winning percentage if all four teams or whatever were tied atop the conference. My admittedly extreme hypothetical was a 4-way tie for first place, where each of the four teams has split their head-to-head games. More just a curiosity than anything I find realistic.
  8. 1) Gallardo 3.66 2) Wolf 4.23 3) Davis 4.61 4) Bush 4.78 5) Parra 4.90 CL) Hoffman 3.45 SU) Coffey 3.91 SU) Hawkins 3.60 LOOGY) Stetter 3.64 MRP) Villanueva 4.03 MRP) Vargas 4.12 MRP) Suppan//Narveson 5.43//4.18 I like this scenario. And honestly when I look at this, Suppan looks like the odd man out for my preferences. Not because of the salary or blind loathing of him... I just like the idea of having Narveson as a second lefty in the bullpen. Vargas could probably man the long-RP & spot-starter roles about as capably as Soup. Though others are correct, imo, in that Villy may well start the season at Nashville. I inserted the CHONE ERA projections for each guy, fwiw. Not a bad looking pitching staff at all (since I'm of the opinion that both Bush & Parra could easily be below Davis's projection). As an aside, I really hope Macha uses Gallardo as the #1 SP this season from the get-go, and in addition uses him on regular four-days' rest to open the season -- that would see him start on OD, again v. STL, & then to close the following three-game series at Wrigley (along with the final game of the three-game set against the Cubs at MP later in April). If Macha makes sure each guy gets his turn, however, Yo wouldn't make a start at Wrigley
  9. Seems like there's some circular logic at play there. I'm sure the Big Ten has a way to determine tiebreakers in extreme situations (like a four-way tie), though.
  10. You can't send Narveson to AAA if he is out of options. He would have to pass through waivers to get there.
  11. Conf. winning %, or overall?
  12. Melvin made a comment this offseason to the effect that salary does not guarantee anything. At the time, I took it to basically be talking about Suppan. I wish I could remember where that was linked. And whether fans like it or not, Suppan can actually help the team in the long-man/emergency SP role. As for the original post's question, I have to agree with others that Parra is going to get every chance to prove himself -- and I believe he will.
  13. Wellemeyer was a Cardinal again last season
  14. But, frankly, I think the critics accusing the report of bias are full of hot air. Math isn't biased. Science isn't biased. If there's a significant error in the report, the scientific method applies. Disprove it by more than opinion. This seems to be a pervasive issue in the political discourse nowadays. Fact-based report is issued... critics decry it with exaggeration, manipulation of facts, & play to simple emotional responses... said criticism is refuted by facts, or directed to examine facts on issue... wash, rinse, repeat
  15. Even with a rebound season from Rios, that ChiSox offense just isn't very good. Imo they're going to be the mirror opposite of the 2009 Brewers -- studly pitching, woeful offense, and right around .500
  16. Man, you did a lot of work on that breakdown... nice. I do have to say that I see MSU losing one of the three remaining road games and/or against OSU. I'm not sure what tiebreaker rules are for the Big Ten, but I think it's actually quite likely there's a tie between Bucky & Sparty. I guess the Badgers will just have to win out!
  17. Unfortunately, the team & Hart seem to feel his focus on BBing last season (a team-ordered change in plate approach) sapped his power. As best I'm aware the plan to have Hart focus on taking pitches has been scrapped. I personally wish they'd have him continue to take pitches. His LD% was within career norms, as were his OZ contact % & Zone contact %. The only thing that was down was his HR/FB rate (which iirc tends to fluctuate from year to year in general) at 8.8%, which was also low in 2008 (9.9%). Previously he'd been around 12 or 13%. His swing data from '09 actually pretty closely resembles that of his career year of '07, aside from the HR/FB. I agree that he showed some progression as a hitter last season, & wish that the Brewers would now ask him to focus on putting that discipline together with driving the ball... which, after all, is the job he should be up there to do anyway.
  18. Oh, and other results today... Villanova got spanked by Georgetown 103-90, unranked Oklahoma knocked off #9 Texas, #12 BYU lost at UNLV Wisconsin is looking better & better. I'll be very interested to see how far they climb in the new polls. Now it's time to get Leuer back. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  19. Wow, I didn't catch that. Awesome! I see Lucas was out, but even so, quite impressive from the Illini. Here are some quotes on Lucas's satus, per a Yahoo/Rivals.com story prior to tonight's game: If I'm a MSU fan, the fact that they don't even know when he's going to be able to start practicing again would really have me concerned.
  20. Yeah, what a nice win. They did exactly what I was hoping they'd do. I was home in time to watch most of the second half. Assuming Leuer comes back at full strength, dare I say that this might be the most dangerous Badger team yet as far as the NCAA tournament goes? Under Bo Ryan, absolutely.
  21. The AL West race might come down to how Snell & the two other rotation spots perform until Bedard is at 100%. I like the pickup for SEA, but Bedard's contribution this season is still a big question mark.
  22. You're joking, right? Their attendance this season will probably be the highest since 1988. I know you're getting at the weather, but they will still draw well this season. New ballparks always do, and this year's team is very talented & a legitimate frontrunner in the AL Central, to boot.
  23. I don't think I'll be able to watch the Badgers' game today. I'm really worried about this one, & hope the guys have stayed focused after the emotional high of pounding Sparty. As long as Bo's players execute, they should be able to overwhelm UM.
  24. Why would it be unfair? What about a team that misses the lone WC spot by one game? They aren't worthy, even though they might've missed out by the other team being luckier?
  25. Given the dimensions of Target Field, along with some nice LH bats (Morneau, Mauer, Kubel, Thome, Span, & Hudson at times), I'd say the Twins are constructed pretty favorably in terms of developing a home field advantage. While I think you make a good point on the rough OF defense & a flyball staff, I just don't like any of the AL Central competitors enough to view that as an open race without MIN suffering some serious injury trouble.
