  1. I can't put the blame for tonight on Yost. I can, however, put the blame each & every time Meatball Mota gets shelled in a close game in the 8th. Yost has good bullpen options, but unless they're placed into a freaking color-coded chart for him so he doesn't have to think, he might as well have a 'pen full of Motas.
  2. I disagree on 'bad luck' as applied to tonight. When you throw meatballs & hanging sliders, there's really not much need for luck for MLB hitters. Time to stop the bleeding. If Yost won't remove our worst RP from one of the highest-leverage roles, then it's time to remove Ned.
  3. The fact that any or all of Melvin & Co, Yost, & Maddux think that Guillermo Mota can pitch meaningful innings, let alone be the (moronic) '8th Inning Guy' is incredibly disturbing. Yost gets the most of my ire for being the moron that sticks with him, making sure to do so in higher-leverage innings. GET RID of Mota in any game where the margin is 5 runs or less in either direction. Garbage innings for a garbage pitcher http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/mad.gif I'll naively hope that tonight is the last the Brewers have to suffer with a hack like Mota pitching a tight game in the 8th inning.
  4. I came across the following comment on another message board, in a discussion of the Harden deal: "White Sox fan here... We just faced Harden a few days ago on Sunday at the Cell and his velocity was way down. His fastball wasn't its usual 95-96 and was more like 90-92. Harden also didn't throw much breaking stuff either, suggesting that he's nursing his shoulder, elbow, or both. He was pretty much reduced to being a two-pitch pitcher. I wouldn't be surprised if he spends most of the rest of the season on the DL. The Cubbies could be headed for Kerry Wood part II." Now, take it for what it's worth, but that's more 'first-hand' knowledge or 'witness account' than I've seen posted in this thread. I haven't seen Harden pitch at all this season, so I found this -- at least -- interesting.
  5. I'm not here to gloat, taunt, etc, etc. I'm here to give you one Cub fan POV. I like what Milwaukee did with CC Sabathia, I think Milwaukee soldified a postseason spot with that acquisition. But we both have a common enemy, and that is St. Louis. It's going to be an interesting 3 weeks to the deadline, and in the 2nd half, to say the least. Thanks for sharing the perspective & info. It's hard to get a good feel for other teams' situations & perceptions when all we can do is lurk at a site like NSBB. Interesting to hear that the Cubs plan on skipping some of Harden's starts -- wise on their end, but that certainly doesn't jive with your 'I think he's going to be healthy' hunch. With the start-skipping in mind, I think it makes the pickup of Harden that much less impactful, and perhaps an indication of why the Cubs seemingly 'stole' Harden & Gaudin.
  6. I had/still have to some extent the 'excercise-induced asthma'. I know, I know, I'm cool. Coughing was one way that helped me get deeper 'breaths' when it felt like I couldn't. I have no idea if this is the case with Prince or not -- I didn't even notice him doing this until the OP pointed it out.
  7. I wonder if it's just a nervous habit, like clearing one's throat. Great, now I'm going to be watching this like a hawk in the game tonight. I thought he was just fatter & we were all ok with that! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  8. I vote "IBPL" http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  9. Am I the only one that hadn't even noticed this until this thread?
  10. Harden has a pretty agressive delivery and I think all three of his major injuries have been related to his delivery or follow through. Thanks, Schlitz. I thought I remembered that Harden's delivery was pretty violent. I will not hope for an injury... I will, however, say that an injury would not surprise me. The Cubs are going to have to be very careful in how they use him. So this means we can get Blanton for like, Crabbe and Nix right? I think people are underrating Gallagher (I used to myself) & Donaldson. Beane got what he wanted here imo -- a good quantity of prospects, with two potentially good-quality guys at the top of the deal.
  11. I just now remembered that not only is the Brewers game starting in 20 min., but *duh* a certain newly-acquired pitcher will be starting it!
  12. Carp. I was really hoping he'd just take the time off, but the good news is that the hand can't be bothering him much anymore... right?
  13. With that said, I wonder what Beane wants for Huston Street. Whatever bullpen arm(s) Doug does target, I'd like to see that sooner rather than later... before the bidding escalates & said RP(s) have less time to help the Brewers. I'd bet Melvin is still very much hard at work on the phones.
  14. Harden's last 4 starts: 6/20 v. FLA: 5.2 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 2 BB/5 K (98 P) 6/26 v. PHI: 8 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB/11 K (95 P) 7/1 @ LAA: 5 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 1 BB/5 K (91 P) 7/6 @ CHW: 5 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 4 BB/4 K (93 P) This means Rich's next start would (likely) be 7/10 v. CIN, and the only one he'll make before the ASG.
  15. Are Harden's WOAHs related to quirky mechanics? Or has it just been random pitching injuries?
  16. Beane must have been REALLY concerned about Harden's health issues b/c this doesn't seem to make sense to do the deal so soon Yeah, I'll echo BtA here. I'd guess that Beane & OAK A) know something about Rich's arm that no one else does, B) are 'selling high' (question the return then), or C) got fleeced. Here's some info on C Josh Donaldson, from a projectprospect.com pre-season "Chicago Cubs Top 5" prospects article: 5. Josh Donaldson, C (12/8/85) Taken with the No. 48 overall pick this past June, Josh Donaldson has wasted little time proving himself worthy of being the Cubs' sandwich round selection. In 203 Northwest League (A-) at-bats, the 6-foot, 195-pounder posted an impressive .346/.470/.605 vital line, thanks in part to a keen eye (37:34 BB to K) at the dish. Behind the dish, Donaldson's inexperience still shows at times. The Auburn University product started his collegiate career as a third baseman before moving behind the plate. Some believe he'll become a solid defensive catcher; some believe he'll move off the position-maybe even to second base. Regardless of what vantage point he ends up seeing the field from on defense, Donaldson has a Major League slot in waiting as long as he remembers to bring his bat with him to the plate. We might all just be undervaluing the catcher in this deal... of course we know what Beane does when things are undervalued http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  17. I never ripped on DM vague or otherwise. I think my point was clear, that DM would not been able to pull off this deal w/o JZ doing his job If you don't want to give him credit, that's fine... but that's where 'vague rip' came in. While I agree that Z & the scouting department provided him with the necessary ammo, I just think that Brawndo's point: "Melvin should get credit for managing to convince Cleveland to do a trade earlier rather than later, especially since he managed to do so without severely overpaying. It certainly would have been in the Indians' interest to let the thing drag out and see who else would eventually get into the bidding." Is where Melvin should get credit.
  18. Thanks for clarifying -- would've been nice to see instead of just a vague rip on Melvin.
  19. Quit trying to show up the players McClellan, you are just an umpire, no one comes to the game to see you and your lazy delayed strike calls. On top of all that bravado, he stinks at balls & strikes. He had the dreaded 'floating zone' last night, and that's certainly not the first time I've seen that from him. Thank goodness we won't have him behind the plate for a while again. That was brutal -- especially for a pitcher like Seth, who has BB WOAHs anyway. I just felt bad & sorry for McClung last night as he sat in the dugout after getting yanked, head in hands, just bewildered & lost-looking. Hang in there Seth!
  20. There are 4 adults and you have tickets in your hands - basically a ROADMAP of where you need to go - and not one of you can figure it out?! Oh, you hit a nerve with me on that one. GROWN adults, fumbling around like lost little children. I've always wondered if you handed someone like that a book, and said, 'Find the 14th page in Chapter 8', if they'd look just as lost. It's the same concept, and really, basically the same action to get from Point A --> Point B. As a side note, being a person that can comprehend aisles & seat #s, it bothers me to no end when ushers (not just at MP, anywhere) stop you as you try to walk to your seat, look at your ticket, and say, 'Ok, you go down to row X, and then you're in seat Y.' O RLY?!
  21. I don't. He was essentially the highest bidder. Well, that's how you land a player like Sabathia. You don't get him for LaPorta + Bryson.
  22. Cause for concern that he'll return to an .800+ OPS? JB, you puzzle me about Branyan.
  23. I'd really rather not see Braun in the derby. Maybe I'm alone there, but play in the game, and take a well-deserved break for the rest. I'd love to see him sitting on the grass, whooping it up as he watches others over-exert themselves & hit moon-shots.
