  1. The line of thinking is that if you are going to give up 6 years of Matt LaPorta, you better get something damn good in return and if they don't make the playoffs the deal was a complete waste besides 2 draft picks that won't see the Bigs for at least 3 more years. It's revisionist's history. I have no problem with your argument as long as you can admit that. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif We got something dang good in return, and have a very real shot to win the WS.
  2. Question marks! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif I think WSJ got it wrong. Just my hunch. Their coverage of the Brewers in general is not very good.
  3. Raffy's numbers are far worse than anyone on the staff, including DiFelice and Dillard. Who goes to make room for him? All I was doing was speculating. Not sure. But I certainly hope you don't think Betancourt has lost talent. He's thrown 38.2 innings so far. I think I'll stick with his other 300+ as a much better indicator of talent. Like I said, he's a prototypical DM 'buy low' guy.
  4. I think the teams might be expanding the deal. Why else would a bunch of new (& seemingly random) names come out? I think the WSJ guy is going to have egg on his face. I hope not, though, since that would be stealing CC
  5. I think the deal is not going to be just ZJ, MLaP, & Bryson for Sabathia. If that's the case, DM absolutely fleeces Shapiro. I think a RP might be getting discussed. Betancourt is a good 'buy low' candidate. **This is my speculation, that's all.
  6. Joe Morgan is unaware of compensation picks (paraphrase): 'That's a big risk [getting CC], because you can't re-sign Sheets or Sabathia, & you're giving away all your prospects' I'll amend BtA's worthy advice once upon a time & say, "If Joe Morgan can find work, anyone can find work" Anyway, I just don't agree that adding Sabathia does anything more than add a stellar SP arm. That's what makes a team better, not feeling warm & toasty imo.
  7. Any idea when his first start would be (sorry if this was addressed in another post)? This has been answered 2 or 3 times -- Tuesday
  8. Teams respond to management going out and getting premium players. Does it really have an impact? Players are playing hard regardless. They don't get magical +1 boosts from another player.
  9. Ha! Actually, they have, SoCal. One poster crapped out: "To all the Brewswrs fans lurking here: How did having an 8.5 lead last year, with a better offense, pithing staff and bullpen work out for you? You have C.C. but a horrid pen and a very hit and miss offense. Good luck with that. Hendry is going to get another starter and you guys will be watching the playoffs yet again." With a HUGE LOLZ laffy face! (ugh) Fortunately, and the reason why I go there sometimes, sanity prevailed: "You know we had something like an 8.5 game lead on them not long ago." "I don't think they're going to pass us. I just thought it was dumb to start mocking Brewers fans when they've made up like 5 games on us in the past couple weeks." NSBB Thread EDIT: They also have the newspaper titled "Milwaukee Journal-Star". If anyone's registered over there, might want to fill them in. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  10. Joe Morgan gushes about how well Pedroia "handles the high fastball", and that the Red Sox are the best team at adjusting to pitchers, since they "adjust to hard throwers". Very next pitch, Pedroia chops a high fastball to A-Rod for a 5-3 putout. Poetry in motion, my friends
  11. I hope that someday in the future, I will overhear a Cubs fan saying, 'CC bleeping Sabathia!' Gonna go drop by nsbb.com... even with the picture sigs & Cubs fans
  12. Great move by Melvin & Co. Agreed, and he can hit, too. Perfect deal -- imo -- for both sides. Thank you Doug/Gord/Z/Mark/etc.! This has yet to sink in for me. I'd imagine that will come the first time I see this guy pitch in a Brewers uniform, blowing guys away with mid-90s heat & a BB rate around, oh, I don't know... Sheets. EDIT: I wish Melvin knew how to evaluate pitching. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  13. No comment right now. Sorry. Sounds like a 'Yes' to me. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif Big deal, and honestly, for both teams. Doug always shoots for win-win deals.
  14. When I clicked to visit pages 5 & 6, by the time I read to the bottom, there was another page on the thread. Wow. we're starting to look like those '01 D-backs That's an interesting comparison. I don't think CC is '01 RJ good, but it still gets me all hot & bothered as a comp.
  15. no limit. also, if you right click back after you vote...rather than clicking the vote again link, you do not have to uncheck the e-mail options...unless you want thousands of mlb.com emails. I must reiterate this, as I fell victim to their advertising.
  16. So is Sabathia pitching on Tuesday? Yes, per TH This is the right type of player to take this kind of shot with. This is not Linebrink, even though we probably paid more to get CC.
  17. Yes! Castrovince keeps his job http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  18. This from Indians Ink: "I mentioned before, we need to trade CC to the brewers for their top scouts. It is a simple idea."
  19. What Sabathia update? An unconfirmed rumor on a blog? I mean, I think it's going down but it still seems like a lot of the same until there's official confirmed word. Castrovince would probably lose his job if he posted that in error, given that he's an Indians employee. The TH case with Yost's job is different imo.
  20. Methinks word about the Sabathia update has probably started to spread in Miller Park
  21. "Should be an exciting 24-48 hours for the Brewers on the trade front" -- BA He's read the report, it sounds like.
  22. Watching this broadcast right now is the definition of "dramatic irony" It's like a great, real-world Shakespearian twist to this game. Hearing them talk about the pitching, our "ace" Ben Sheets... http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif "Dramatic irony is when the words and actions of the characters of a work of literature have a different meaning for the reader than they do for the characters. This is the result of the reader having a greater knowledge than the characters themselves"
  23. Indians.com beat writer It'd be like McCalvy reporting it for us. !!!!!
  24. "[tt]According to a Major League source, the Indians and Brewers have completed a trade in which Sabathia, the reigning American League Cy Young Award winner, would be sent to Milwaukee for Double-A outfielder Matt LaPorta and two other prospects. But that rumor could not immediately be confirmed." Indians.com beat writer's blog [/tt]
