  1. It's easy to say that in hindsight. But people were saying that he should have been called up long before he was.
  2. Or caused by a baserunner sliding into first, thus slowing himself down. No. Gallardo, for some reason, felt the need to try & jump over the slide, instead of just moving parallel with the 1B line... but this probably isn't going anywhere anyway.
  3. It's like having a supermodel girlfriend and complaining that she can't make a decent steak. That's the thing -- no one was complaining. This is exactly what I'm talking about.
  4. Or caused by Yo not doing what a P is supposed to on that play (move parallel with the 1B line)
  5. I like that pick a lot -- pondered him for Baltimore
  6. How is that objective when nobody came close to saying that, or accusing others of saying something similar? I didn't mean my (admittedly) snarky/overstated comment was objective, just that the discussion of why there are other players that are more deserving (or perhaps more deserving) for the ASG than Braun was objective observation. Sorry... I worded that post (#134) poorly.
  7. Not true at all. We are just pointing out that other players at Braun's position have a SLG better or within a few points of Braun, but also have a much, much higher OBP. Which is not equal to saying 'Braun is poopy & I h8s him!'... just some objective observation.
  8. Sure I would love to see him walk more, but if he contines to hit for power and in the .290's how can you really complain? I think a lot of the debate from the Braun/ASG thread got painted as 'complaining' or 'dissing', but I really don't think that was the case... just some harsh objectivity. I certainly don't complain about Braun's production, but that's not the same as trying to determine if he's been a top-3 OF in the NL this season. Just some comments that got taken the wrong way and/or overblown, imho. I doubt there's a Brewers player that's much more-loved than Braunie at this point, and deservedly so.
  9. The reason to fire Yost is not stupid decisions about Tavarez. The reason to fire Yost is to bring in a new person for the sake of change. With all due respect, have you read through this thread? There are plenty of reasons people provide (on both sides of the debate) aside from the Tavarez 'incident'
  10. He deserves it as much as and probably more then the other OF with highter OBP. Care to elaborate on why? (just curious on your reasoning)
  11. No, but see -- when you hit a HR, it doesn't help your OBP. Clearly this is the point the 'stats guys' have been trying to make!
  12. That was pretty well-done. Thanks for the linkage. "Ahead by a tally courtesy of a Russ "3TO" Branyan safety in the opening innings, Milwaukee's Finest came up for their third at bat against Twin City twirler Scott "Captain Shreve" Baker. Down they went, 1-2-3-4. And all via the 11th Letter. Unpossible, you declare? Not so, dear Reader. With The Hebrew Hammer, Ryan Braun, already retired after errant swings, the Porky Prince of Pop took his turn in the rectangle. Appropriately, given the holiday, Fielder failed to Honor Thy Father, and he too missed badly on a troika of swings. However, Mike "Smell Those RBI's" Redmond, backstopping the Chang and Engs, failed to corral a wide one from his batterymate, and the pill bounded so far into the distance that even the Portly Prince was able to reach the Right Sack." ... "Far be it from me to question the Commish of Gilles Hot Dogs (duly noted-his Pride and Joy were beneficiaries of the Dubious Decision), but why bother trying to bring a hasty and unnatural end to these Glorious Afternoons at the Park? This reporter's Typing Brethren are responsible for much of the barracking about length of play. Ticketholders are free to leave at any point. Those who stay are presumably sanguine with the proceedings. So why hurry them from the fresh air and glad tidings? Given the seldom seen action earlier in the day, the Drive 'Em Out Directive was truly Irony Unbound."
  13. M Skjellyfetti is just so used to dominating in softball... Braunie's numbers do not impress him http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  14. It was funny just prior to 3TO's HR last night I yelled at the pitcher and told him "not to mess with the muscle" and he threw him a strike and Branyan showed him the ways of the force. Beautiful stuff. You have much to learn, young Padawan. In time, you will learn to control the force. Master Bran-yan will instruct you well. http://bp2.blogger.com/_ufCeMrpfRrw/RvbavU1R_1I/AAAAAAAABfc/WI5acj8DuTw/s320/dustinmcgowan.jpg
  15. I can't fathom a NL C playing better defensively than Jason has thus far. The man is just lightyears better back there than any Brewers C I've seen play. On the strength of his defense alone I think he should warrant some serious All-Star consideration, but I bet very few outside of Brewers diehards are aware of just how good he's been (RTO% aside). I certainly couldn't provide any info on how good/bad Martin, McCann, Soto, etc. have been, other than to think of a few games I've seen here & there (obv. with Soto I've seen a few more -- he really doesn't look like anything special, defensively).
  16. Braun increasing his OBP is not going to get Braun more ABs. It will get guys behind him more ABs. But if the guys behind Braun get more ABs, then he does too. I personally am shocked with the amount of venom that objectivity is being met with here. Just because someone says they think Braun is not one of the top 3 NL OF this season doesn't mean we need to drag them before the Committee on Un-Brewerian Activites.
  17. Give me Braun and he will more than make up for the walks that ultimately would not lead to that many more runs compared to a OFer with a higher OBP with less power. How do you back this up? It's just a convoluted statement. That's the problem with thinking that 'stat guys' are just out to be overly critical. The stats-oriented crowd tends to be very objective, which certainly means being critical of Brewers at times. There's nothing keeping the people who have pointed out that Ryan's OBP is not 'all-star caliber' from cheering their butts off for him & enjoying him, you know?
  18. I don't think we'll see a .220 from Branyan, but more of a .250 or .260 avg, which isn't great, but given his power more than makes up for it. Don't forget those BBs! His OBP should be very good this season. Russell has been even better than I'd ever imagined. Like you noted, JJ7, his defense has been about as good as his offense.
  19. Look at Hardy last year - is it any coincidence that when he was batting ahead of Fielder he had a career year in HRs? Look at Hardy's OPS and HR totals in April and May... then Braun comes up and hits in front of Fielder. Suddenly Hardy tapers off and Braun has a monster year. Then this year Fielder hits ahead of Braun and Braun struggles... until he is placed ahead of Fielder, then his numbers come back. I think it'd take a much deeper dig into the numbers to prove anything here, or in short, yes I do think both were coincidental. Hardy was finally healthy, something NL pitchers had not seen (namely, his power). J.J. actually produced the best batting 8th last year, not sure why you say it's in front of Prince. Same goes for Braun in that he hadn't faced the pitchers yet, & had an incredible rookie campaign. I genuinely don't think Fielder had much (if anything) to do with either one. What's the logic that Braun hasn't been producing to 2007 levels this season? He's batting in front of Prince. (And when I say "should" I mean he should have been on the roster sooner and accumulated more of his numbers in MIL.) Could not agree with you more. The mystery of the TGJ lives on.
  20. Did you ever stop to think that both phrases related to the same game? Tavarez was obvious gassed, but he demonstrated that game both the good and bad. Bad: he was walking guys. Good: He's a goundball pitcher, and that is what they needed once the bases were full. Yes, what sheethead said. I have no idea why you felt this applied to my bewilderment at Ned's double-speak.
  21. Way to take "questioning whether he deserves it" and turn it into "lobbying against it." Where did the lobbying occur? I didn't read any.
  22. When something seems so obvious some like to think the manager is an idiot. I tend to think there is something else going on that we aren't privy to. I used to feel this way. I honestly don't much anymore, though. I've heard enough 'justifications' or 'explanations' that made even less sense than the questionable moves that precipitated them. I think Yost is in the neighborhood of 'competent', but slightly better or slightly worse. In my opinion he's slightly worse, but not nearly as bad as some of his counterparts.
  23. http://www.arenaflowers.com/product_image/large/600-mohican_chicken.jpg http://kamaladolphinkingsley.com/otisblog/images/fancy-poop-web.jpg I was fired via email once (needless to say, it was a bogus reason for termination). Not much fun. I can't imagine this is any better for Willie.
  24. Just what are we supposed to base their performance on if not how well the team does with the talent they have? Come on, Buc. You've had this debate so many times. It's the equivalent of using W-L to evaluate a pitcher. "I felt like he could use one more day off. ... "I was trying to win this game. I don't think about tomorrow at all in that situation." WOW. There have been a lot of 'gems' to fall from his lips. This one, however, may trump them all. 'I was managing with tomorrow in mind. I never manage with tomorrow in mind.' ----- Continued here: viewtopic.php?f=63&t=30570
