  1. I don't understand why we wouldn't start skipping one pitcher every turn through the rotation if possible at this point. It isn't early so we don't have to build guys up anymore like we do in April. But... McClung is the #5 pitcher. He has to pitch right after the #4 pitcher, right?
  2. Kapler seems to be the best option now because he at least takes advantage of seeing a lot of fastballs. Gabe Kapler batting second is like Counsell batting leadoff... a horrid idea. I'd probably just leave the lineup alone right now, since only Hart, Fielder, Braun, & Branyan are really hitting well. If there's anyone I'd slot up to #2, it'd be Russell, but I know that thought alone would probably make Ned's brain implode.
  3. Yes. I truly hope the Dillon at 2B thing is done. But if Dillon leads off, he has to play second!
  4. I won't pretend to follow this stuff very closely but are there any recent contract that would serve as a comparable to Sheets? Young (relatively speaking), solid pitcher with moderate injury history? Maybe Burnett or Halladay? Burnett: 5 yrs./$55M (signed 12/2005) Halladay: 3 yrs./$40M (signed 3/2006 -- this deal was an extension on the 4 yrs./$42M deal signed 1/2004. Covered '04-'07) It's important to bear in mind that both contracts are old enough that (imo) the expected AAV has probably gone up quite a bit, but I think the length of the deals & relative value can help us try to frame a Sheets deal/extension.
  5. Six years into his managerial career, he finally tries to go all out to win a game. Better late than never I guess. Ned managing has a similar impact on me as my golfing -- in each case, there's just barely enough positive for me to 'come back', yet the realist in me knows all the pain and agony that's sure to lie ahead. Every once in a while, Ned will make the move that my brain is about ready to scream for, which puts me into a quieted sense of discomfort. Torres yesterday was one of those situations. It's like I get used to seeing Shouse v. righties & Mota against the meat of lineups in the 8th inning... and then Ned does something that makes sense. I usually get suspicious & start looking for that paint can from Home Alone to come crashing down on me. When that doesn't happen (it hasn't yet, anyway), I uncomfortably try to start enjoying the game again. This, unfortunately, leads me to expect reasonable decisions from Yost in the subsequent games. And just like my slice off the tee, Ned's empty-headedness returns every time.
  6. Does this mean we get to see more Counsell in the leadoff spot.... that excites me a lot. Yes, the 2B always bats leadoff, for clear reasons. This is troubling news... I didn't like that slide or the way Rickie's knee looked on impact.
  7. Funny how the people who posted before the Dillon AB agreed it was the right move....and the critical comments came after the AB. I still think it was a good decision.
  8. JJ & Prince seems to play well together. Hardy's throws tend to come in low, and Prince appears to read his throws better. Am I crazy there? Nice reactions there by Prince on Helton's smash
  9. That's definitely one of the best catches I've ever seen
  10. I hear that Villanueva guy can pitch today.
  11. Branyan is now hurting the team at 3B. Dang I wish he wouldn't have hit that ball so hard!
  12. Why!?! Baseball gods, why can't you give us the 'that's Kendall's ___th HR in his last 600 million ab's' stat?
  13. A yard higher... Btw, the Rockies announcers are letting everyone know that when you hit a ball off the wall & watch it, you are hurting your ball club. I get that and all, but apparently the RBI screamer that missed being a 3-run shot by *that* much doesn't do anything to make it a neutral oucome. It hurts your club. You'd be right in this thing if he were on second. Since he's on first, he's hurting the team.
  14. It's funny to me that it's the singles & gaps that kill you at Coors Field
  15. I love that sound. Ned, it's time to get concerned about Dave. Don't let this get to 6 or more. Villy is ready.
  16. Have to come prepared for those seats Probably don't need to throw that slider again Dave
  17. That CB from Bush was a solid pitch, his change was good there... come on Dave
  18. Ned doesn't change, does he? I know for sure now, after being able to watch around the league, that we can certainly improve at manager. An interesting theory I've heard (no researcher or sportswriter) is trying to change manager every 5 years or so. We can't really get a ton better, but we certainly can't get a ton worse. Dave Bush... here we go... I kinda want to hold my breath
  19. Craig Counsell leading off. *sigh* I'm sure I'm not the first to complain there.
