  1. Right, we should have won 4 out of 4 if the Brewers could figure out Little League basics like giving and receiving signs. No, we were lucky to win 3, not unlucky to not sweep.
  2. One thing I love about baseball-reference.com is that their player pages will always (usually?) note "Son/Father/Cousin/Brother of _____" Pretty awesome website/database.
  3. Rock is a very good color guy compared to those around MLB. And pitchleague -- I only made a comment mimicking Rock bc I thought it was funny that someone else noticed this about him. I never took this thread to be negative, for the most part it really puts a smile on my face. I am a big Schroeder backer... there are literally only a small handful of color commentators out there that I'd prefer over him objectively. And subjectively, I've grown up with Rock as my Brewers mainstay -- I don't want him to leave! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  4. Oh... wow. Gonna call it a day. Today's Monday, right? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/eyes.gif
  5. Ha! I love being thrown to the wolves. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif Power pitchers win in the post-season I'm surprised to see such an over-generalized comment from you. I don't have time right now to dig, but I'd bet power pitchers win just as much as non-power guys -- in the post-season & in general.
  6. The Sounds weren't scheduled to play in Portland anyway, iirc. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  7. I think moving the Braves out of the West & adding the Brewers to the Central might have been the extent of Bud's 'major' plans. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  8. How is yost supposed to know how well all the minor league players are actually performing? He has no way or time to both scout minor league players or evaluate them and do the day to day managerial duties he was hired to do. There are other Brewers employees to provide the kind of detail you're describing. Ned & Doug have to trust those reports, and I'm sure it's pretty much the same as other organizations.
  9. Yes, we disagree. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  10. Are you really worried about somebody claiming Branyan? Every major league club had their shot at the end of spring training. He's just not the hot commodity some people on here think he is. He's destroyed PCL pitching. His career OPS is .800+. He's a very useful bench player type for a contending team, and I'm grateful the Brewers signed him. I have no idea why Gwynn Jr. is a Brewer & Branyan isn't, but I digress.
  11. Narveson started (went 5 2/3) on the 12th. They must want to keep him on SP rest/rotation
  12. I'm neutral on inter-league play. It's 'fun', I guess. What I really loathe is the way the playoffs got re-structured. I hate the idea of small sample serieseseses deciding the 'champion'. While it's been neato to have stories like the Angels, Cardinals, Rockies, etc., the whole point of playing the large(ish) sample of 162 games is to weed out as much flukey stuff as possible... sorry for veering OT.
  13. What I'd really like to applaud Jason for is his athletic, attentive defense behind HP. The RTO%, imo, has been icing on the cake (and I agree with rluz that it's largely due to teams testing his arm... plus don't forget most SB are on the P, not C). Jason's exhibited cat-like reflexes blocking pitches, and for the first time in my baseball fan life, 'He calls a good game' is actually real. I can't recall a Brewers C that could get down to his knees to block pitches as (seemingly) lightning-quick as Jason does -- it's a thing of beauty to watch for me. This might go down as DM's best FA signing in Milwaukee, given the positional premium, black-holey-ness of Estrada, and how washed up the vast majority assumed Kendall was. I might go revisit some of those offseason threads discussing Kendall... should be interesting.
  14. Small sample alert, but one thing to consider for a guy coming up to serve as a LOOGY: With runners on, Jackson's line (19 IP) -- .303/.368/.461/.828, .338 BABIP, 1.63 WHIP That's kind of weird data to use, since he's been both a RP & SP. Can anyone weigh in on how he's done thus far with runners on/runners on in the RP role? Maybe JJHardy7 (iirc he's in Nashville)?
  15. Braun has been impressive in LF so far... why do you ask?
  16. We shouldn't have lost two of three to LA. But to be fair, we probably shouldn't have won 3 of 4 v. StL. Luck is a fickle mistress!
  17. Talent & results are often not the same. Using a combined IP total of under 30 is problematic imo
  18. May 23 2005: Elbow injury, day-to-day April 1, 2006: Elbow injury, 15-day DL April 22, 2006: Right elbow injury, 15-day DL May 29 2006: Transferred from 15-day DL to 60-day DL June 13, 2007: Right shoulder injury, day-to-day June 19, 2007: Right shoulder injury, 15-day DL retroactive to 6/13/07 July 1, 2007: Right shoulder injury, 15-day DL retroactive to 6/29/07 Aug. 12, 2007: Returned after missing 35 games ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Fully healthy" is never a term I feel will accurately describe A.J. Burnett
  19. Per the Cubs' website, this is official. Edmonds passed the physical. EDIT: You can probably forget the 'P batting 8th' stuff. We missed that Piniella seemed to be joking. "Asked where he'll hit, Piniella, weary of lineup questions, smiled. 'He's going to hit ninth,' Piniella said. 'I'm going to move the pitcher to eighth, and hit Edmonds ninth.' That's not likely to happen. Wherever Edmonds hits, the Cubs were eager to have him in the mix."
  20. If Ben Sheets makes some cringe with injuries, AJ Burnett wouldn't be too welcome, either.
  21. Hooray for Hammer! It's always a good feeling to get off the schnide, as Rock would put it. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif Dang, jazzytrav, I sure hope I don't run into that glitch. So far, so good. *knocks on wood, wood injures rotator cuff* Is there a particular game mode it does that in, or is it in any game mode?
  22. Why is he more valuable? He's already had elbow problems iirc.
  23. I don't know how all of that can possibly not show what type of player he is It doesn't tell us that for certain because his great line in 2007 was due to fluky performance against LHP; ROTY shouldn't have anything to do with player evaluations imho (Listach). Braun's worst case is certainly not "very good". He has a long way to go to be more than a low-BB, high-SLG LF. I for one believe that he will make this contract look great, but you never know with younger players. There is certainly an amount of risk.
  24. When the ACL is torn, there's no more pain. Not even Caplinger, a medical professional, could tell it was torn. Not sure what your point about Sheets is -- that he won't jeopardize his career by pitching through an injury?
