  1. Hardly unlimited. But I can see that he won't get credit for his time in Texas, so have at it. Apparently a GM is supposed to be able to account for all the fluky stuff that can happen when you play a first to three/four wins series.
  2. I thought he was pretty consistent with it last season in the second half. I admit I could be remembering that wrong.
  3. Both of Gallardo's injuries have a ton more to do with the body parts important to pitching than all but one or two of Sheets's injuries. I'm much more concerned about torn ligaments (let's not forget this is both knees now) than an inner ear infection or a back muscle.
  4. Yeah, only three consecutive playoff appearances. What a loser.
  5. Like a clown?
  6. Yeah, I don't get what that 'he thinks he's the star' comment was all about. I mentioned to my gf at the time of Yost's tirade that probably at least 50% of MLB umps would've gotten very animated & run Ned there. West was cool, composed, and appeared to understand why Ned was pissed.
  7. I have a feeling he's not a Brewer come July 31st. His career is at a crossroads right now and I can envision him packaged with Gamel or LaPorta for a #2/3 starter. I can't see him getting shipped off. He's got too powerful a bat. He hasn't even gotten started hitting yet this season, and can eclipse 25 HR with relative ease even at this current pace, and I believe he's going to pick up said pace soon. I couldn't disagree more that he's at a 'career crossroads'. We're only seeing the tip of the iceberg in what Weeks can do. I believe we're going to get the full view very, very soon. You know that amazing August & September from 2007? That's all pretty much sustainable for Rickie. The BA in there is something a bit over what I think he'll sustain, but the rest -- BB rate, power -- that was & is for real.
  8. What's odd, though, is that Edmonds doesn't really fit the profile of the 'position player to bat 9th'. You have to be able to get on base there to be useful. Btw, LaRussa & the Cardinals definitely started this. The Brewers are copycats.
  9. If Branyan is called up, iirc we wouldn't be able to send him down. I'm fine with that, since I think TGJ has no role on this team anyway. I can't get excited about a guy whose primary (or only) use is as a PR. Waste of a roster spot imo. Anything else Gwynn provides, we already get from Counsell & Kapler.
  10. Splitter -- the short porch in Minute Maid Park makes me think that in any given year, El Caballo could out-homer Braun. It wouldn't be a sign that he's a better HR hitter, just that MM Park is dumb. it essentially means Braun wants to stay here in Milwaukee. Actually, it means that he wants some control over what may happen to him down the line. I've never viewed no-trade clauses as a sign that a player wants to stay... instead that the player wants some input down the line should his team want to trade him. jhart -- this is from splitter's post (#150): Defensively, Braun still has a lot to learn, but here again, I think he's already better than Lee.
  11. I hope this is only a bone chip. We'd dodge a bullet if that's the case. Get healthy soon, David! We need the soul patch mojo.
  12. I'd love to see them try to buy low on Weeks right now. Obviously Hart & YoGa are the two most important following Ryan (operating under the assumption that Boras will be a prick as usual re. Prince), but if we can get any kind of a discount on Rickie, keeping him around for 5-6 more seasons would be sweet.
  13. That's correct, Buc. Obviously to say he 'can't play D' anymore is a bit of hyperbole, but I can't blame you for it. I post on the MadFriars.com forums quite a bit, and they were very disappointed with Edmonds pretty much right away. It's a good message board (like here), so I take what the posters there say as credibly as I do here. The responses right away were that they couldn't believe how poor his D was/is, and he looked terrible at the dish. The Cubs probably got him for next to nothing. Any other price was way too high.
  14. $45M... think you can afford a haircut now, Ryan? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif Ryan Braun is the best player on this team, I don't think there's any question of that. This was the correct player to start this process with, obviously, he felt the same way, and so the deal is done. This is just awesome, Braun is a unique talent, he's a difference-maker, and they've just locked up his entire prime, right here, for us to watch. As a fan, how can you not love this? Amen, brother splitter! This deal shows that not only are the Brewers committed to retaining their young star(s), but that they actually have a plan in place for the signings to make an impact. This contract (imo) blows the Tulowitzki deal out of the water. Two FA seasons!!! Two! Presumed Baseline: 08: 455K (Brewers's rating system) 09: 660K (ditto) 10: 950K (ditto) 11: 7M (arby year 1) 12: 8.5M (arby year 2) 13: 10M (arby year 3) 14: 15M (FA year 1) 15: 15M (FA year 2) http://www.popwink.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/08/homer%20drooling.jpg Hart or YoGa next, please.
  15. .178/.265/.233/.498 (that's right, his OPS is under .500) Jim Edmonds <<< Dennis Rodman
  16. As for Family Guy, I feel pretty much the same way as Trey Parker and Matt Stone do, but still watch Family Guy from time to time. Seconded. Sometimes even the manatees luck into a great episode! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  17. Considering that Mota was most dialed in right out of the gates, I can't buy that anything Torre did or didn't do worked
  18. Dice K, Wakefield, and Beckett is a tough match-up. Wakefield tends to be hot or cold, & Matsuzaka is very overrated (he's solid, just not an elite SP)... Beckett is tough. I agree though, that it's rough to draw any team's 3 top SP. TWR, iirc the service time count would stop once he'd head back down to the minors, in terms of the 'arby clock' (imo there's no way Gamel is even being seriously considered, just wanted to chime in there)
  19. So a guy who has pitched poorly for the last 2 years and has put many runners on base all this year, but has been lucky they haven't scored has a bad game and it is Torre's fault? I agree -- this stuff is overrated. Just like 'icing the kicker' in football.
  20. Since when does a guy get credit just for "attempting" to do something? Since GM's can't make a player hit or throw strikes. All they can do is put together the best grouping of players they feel is possible. Some of the expectations around BF's forums lately have been astronomical. Luck plays such a huge role in teams' success, it's really not even funny. I think Melvin has been solid -- really the only trade that has stunk has been the Davis/Estrada deal, and Doug got what he & his crew felt at the time was the best they could do on aggregate. To get a better catcher than what Estrada appeared to be would've taken parts that Doug didn't want to deal. I'm thankful that as a small-market club, we don't have a GM that is willing to sell the farm for one season. Given how heavily the odds are stacked against even the heaviest favorite, those types of moves don't tend to work well. I'd probably give him a B grade so far, and very much want to wait & see how the bounty of draft picks this summer plays out.
  21. It was a ball low and a ball outside. Awful call. Bad strike call, but one that he consistently made all game.
  22. Clearly with a loss tonight the Brewers would return to "OFFICIALLY DUN" status
