  1. I'll be really mad if they demote Parra or Villanueva after such a short period of time. With Parra, I wouldn't be upset to see him demoted. He just hasn't looked 'right' yet, but his last start was obviously encouraging (after starting off very discouragingly). Villy imo is not at the point where going down to Triple-A will help. It's time for Carlos to get comfortable & consistent going every 5th day at the MLB level... just mo. I think there's plenty of injury insurance-type SP (Narveson, DeFelice, Weaver, etc.), but not a real nice option at Nashville in terms of bolstering the rotation. I hope the Crew are still in the race come the trade deadline, because I sincerely believe we have the chips to add an arm to help us not only in 2008, but beyond.
  2. Absolutely no way Gwynn lands Maddux alone. Greg would probably be helpful, though.
  3. Or even take it a step further, if a guy just pitched a pretty good 8th inning and appears that his "stuff" is on why take him out? (other than obvious L/R matchups in key situations) The more this conversation evolves, the more I'm loving it. Anything that can get back to the 'fireman' RP, as opposed to the CP and/or one inning specialist, is wonderful. It makes the most intuitive sense, and should work best in actual practice of the concept, too. I'd love for the Brewers to be the trendsetter (retrograders?) in saying, 'Screw the "closer", we need our best pitchers facing their most favorable matchups.'
  4. That represents noticeable improvement over 2007 when he had 53 errors in 128 games (1 error every 2.4 games) and would translate into 35 errors over the same amount of games. Errors are a terrible way of evaluating fielders, especially in the minors. Also, I'm confused about your point about LHSP... do you have some correlating info that more guys are pulling the baseball to 3B? But [braun's] offense was so off the charts, that on balance in my opinion, he was definitely a net plus for the team. If Gamel is capable of putting up spectacular offensive numbers, I could live with him making 20-25 errors vs. the damage he could do in 400 or so AB's. Braun cancelled out roughly 75% of his offense at 3B. Using errors as the lightning rod does not help you arrive at that kind of calculation. Honestly, I could care less about Gamel's E total -- how's his fielding on the whole? We need some firsthand accounts, and should probably head to the minor-league forum.
  5. I don't think a manager's employ of a young player & what's best for said young player are always the same thing, though. Do you really feel that it would be best for Gamel to play half (or whatever fraction) of the time against pitchers that, on the whole, would overmatch him? I think I want the young guy (who has no reason to be up at MLB) getting regular, day-to-day at-bats.
  6. I'd love to see them throw Bush for 4-5 IP, then follow with McClung for another 2-3, as opposed to just starting Seth. Bush has actually pitched some very good innings for us this season.
  7. I miss Gabe Gross. I can't even keep track of all the situations that've gone by since the trade where I've said, 'Oh, Gabe wil... oh, no, he's not here anymore.'
  8. But I did find it interesting when looking at the "Adjusted Standings" on Baseball Prospectus, that compared to the Cubs and Cards, the Brewers had faced better hitting and pitching. I am not picking on you, BC Rising, just surprised that people haven't/hadn't noticed this so far this season. I'd much rather get the tougher stretches out of the way early than have them looming in the second half. It's good to see that Sept. schedule for the Cubs... thanks for pointing that out, KB.
  9. If the park & the Brewers decided not to inform any press outlets, how would they know? It'd likely have been one or two reps from the Brewers, as I'd imagine any Attanasio visit would come later in the process. Are you saying that the local Sarasota media are going to tail any 'suspicious' Brewers-y looking car? This would not have to have been anything more than one random car driving to the stadium with one or two random people inside. It would not have needed to be Melvin, Yost, & Attanasio. There's no reason to suspect that anyone in the media would know anything about a meeting, or that someone getting out of a car & entering a stadium would make anyone raise an eyebrow.
  10. The players who've shown little against lefties are Hall ? I assume this was a typo.
  11. ... and he doesn't wake up once.
  12. Plus the team wasn't in any position to compete... so having Moeller around didn't hurt anything.
  13. My guess is that the glove color rule is a bit more lenient since only a small percentage of total gloves are represented by pitchers, while literally every position player uses a bat.
  14. Inman has been quoted this season saying that if he isn't pitching in Triple-A this summer, he'd consider his season a disappointment.
  15. If there's a change at this point, it's a change in personality and not a change in "developing" these players. The players are past developmental stages (save perhaps Parra & YoGa). That was/is Yost's strong suit. It was very valuable for a long part of his tenure, but now it's slipped down in terms of priorities. The notion that we shouldn't change because Yost is our guy doesn't hold water to me. Subpar performance from the manager position isn't something you're tied to because he's been with the team (& been helpful in his role) for a while.
  16. Inman has been completely dominating Double-A... smells like cabbage?
  17. Yeah, certain colors or color ranges are allowed, but not pink. (Was gonna put that in blue, but...) No, that's Father's Day. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  18. "We'll see what I can do about keeping it. I don't have a problem with it being pink. I don't know what the rules and regulations are." That's a quote from Ryan, post-game. I know Rock mentioned specifically during the today's broadcast that MLB rules would not allow the use of pink bats aside from the special occasion -- they obviously make a pretty cool exception for Mother's Day.
  19. Awesome experience & story, sheeps -- thanks for sharing! You can thank your son for me. Those performances from J.J. & Ryan were great, and much-needed. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  20. Unless, of course, you're... trying to rule the world! What're we going to do tonight, Ryan? I so get it. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  21. When i look at the Packers, i know Thompson is the one who drafts the kids, signs the free agents, and makes the trades. His hands are on every player on the roster. Do you really think he doesn't have scouting employees & the like? He's in 'control' of the draft just as Melvin is in 'control' of his draft. Sure, Melvin hasn't been alone, but no GM in any sport is. It's too big-busine$$ anymore to trust entire drafts to one or two guys. Also, it's Doug's call on who fills the scouting director spot. The fact that he retained a great talent like Zduriencik should be encouraging, and a sign that Melvin has a good feel for who evaluates amateur talent well. Jack Zduriencik has had an awesome positive impact on this organization... but to simply say that the good players on the roster are due to Zduriencik and that Melvin is skating along with smoke & mirrors, coasting along on Jack's good work, isn't accurate imo.
  22. Plus, in the time he's gotten off to a slow start (his career April/March line is .240/.336/.401/.737), he's still provided his marvelous D in CF.
  23. Wow... Henry V makes its way into this thread. I don't know what to say, aside from thank you BBTS! I still optimistically vote Yes. No Offense = No Playoffs So... what happens when that offense reminds everyone that thinking they were 'done' was unwise? Ironically, I think that if anything can be said about this team it'd be that "No Pitching = No Playoffs"
  24. I wanted them to sign Troy Percival (8 for 9, 2.08 with the Rays) Percival wanted more than one year, which is why not many teams were willing to gamble on him ('08 is his age 39 season). Maybe the Rays are your true team -- Floyd + Percival! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif Pay no attention to the .174 BABIP behind Percival's curtain... he's totally pitching sustainably. "The closer role will now be filled by the entire bullpen, and Yost said it might be as many as three pitchers in the ninth inning if the opposing team's lineup dictates such moves." Yeeehaaa! This might be the only good thing to come out of Gagne's struggles. We now are 'allowed' to pitch to the best matchups, when needed, late in ballgames! This might prove to be huge... the only snag I can think of is that we'll hear that Shouse 'needed to be saved' in case there was a thermonuclear war in the 9th.
  25. Fwiw, Richie called his throwing of the helmet "chicken [poop]" I'd say his suspension seems about right. What if he'd hit Gabbard in the head... which is what it looked like he tried to do. Wow! That link is no longer good -- I just watched it like 30 seconds ago, went to watch again, and *poof* gone.
