  1. Not going to sugarcoat it -- worst day of 2008 so far for Brewer fans. Easily. Why -- what happened?
  2. But if possible, that's my top suggestion on how to improve the site. Ditto. For the LaPorta batting stance, his has always reminded me a bit of this one: http://brian6string.is-a-geek.com:8088/images/pujols_1.jpg
  3. mmmm.... gingers...
  4. Alright, this park is a disgrace to the HR. Pop one 325 feet to LF? Oh yea, that's a HR. Blast one 400+ to LC-RC? Nope, sorry, gotta hit it 425+. I hate this park.
  5. whenever Branyan gets brought up here, it leads to stats like he'll post an .800ish OPS and play multiple positions I think saying he can OPS in the .750-.850 range does nothing but state the obvious about his career. Milwaukee 2005: .868 OPS TB 2006 (169 AB): .759 SD 2006 (72 AB): .972 SD 2007 (122 AB): .748 StL 2007 (32 AB): .614 Nashville 2008 (80 AB): 1.058 What I'd like to know is how anyone can claim he isn't exceedingly likely to be in the .750-.850 range.
  6. Doug Melvin just stated in an interview on ESPN540 that 3 teams have called the Brewers asking about Turnbow. Mentioned that he didn't have the chance to call them back yet. So, there are teams asking about Turnbow My cynicism tells me this means Melvin has gotten (maybe) one call. Who knows, though -- maybe there's a team out there that thinks they can tweak what's most certainly a mechanics problem.
  7. this past offseason, with new unis, too. A quick google search should get your answers
  8. If I can offer what will hopefully be taken as constructive criticism, it'd be really nice if the current season's stats could be included on player cards. It kinda defeats the purpose of clicking on LaPorta's name just to see a blank stat line. Maybe I'm just being too picky. EDIT: Is it the problem of constant updating/maintenance in posting current season stats that keeps them out? I can fully understand that. I know I've posted this pic before, but given his new status as #1, and the way he's been hitting the ball thus far, I'd like to hear some of you experts give us a little compare and contrast discussion on these two guys What's funny to me is that really the only similarities in stances are the arm positions in that pic. You can see LaPorta sets himself up with a much wider stance, while Ryan keeps his knees turned in & feet much closer together. I haven't had the privilege of watching Matt hit yet, though. I agree 100% that it'd be interesting to hear some more well-informed opinions on Ryan's & Matt's similarities/differences, and I'd expand it to include looking at how both young men play LF.
  9. Has anyone here had any experience with MLB 2K8 on the Wii? I've really loved 2K's college hoops franchise, but have heard very mixed (to negative) reviews of their MLB vehicle. The Show is a great game... don't get me wrong; I just wouldn't want to base a console purchase on one game... even if that one game might be worth it!
  10. Nice non-spoiler review, Robert -- really gives me a good feel of what to expect. I was already looking forward to this a great deal, as Downey's performance has earned nothing but rave reviews, and in general the movie has been well-regarded. But, as you mentioned, it's just a well-done 'fun' movie, and it's been a while since I've seen one of those that hasn't felt slapped together with little care. I can't wait to go see this! Can I ask in advance that any spoilers be hidden? I'd love to hear peoples' takes on it, but not due to specifically laid-out plot points. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  11. A commenter in the TH blog suggests trading LaPorta to the Mets for Vargas I wish you were kidding. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/eyes.gif I don't even know what to say...
  12. "Over? Nothing is over until WE decide it is. Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?" Just let him go -- he's on a roll. I've said it a million times, you can replace 4th and 5th starters easily but no matter how much "starter depth" a team has if a one or a two goes down, you are in trouble. They are the most irreplaceable guys on the team. Nobody has aces or number 2 starters ready to take over. I don't think this is anything we didn't know. Fortunately we have Bush to turn to before it's Weaver-time.
  13. Just wond'ring aloud (h/t to FtJ http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif ), but if the Giants were interested in a Corey Hart-level player in return for Lincecum... Would starting things around Gamel or LaPorta be in the neighborhood? Or is it not even worth it to deal away guys like that for this season?
  14. I can't believe that they let him continue to pitch. Me neither. I wonder though -- once it's torn, did it really hurt anything for him to keep pitching? I'd imagine if it were a partial tear, it would've happened eventually anyway.
  15. Holy... this... I..... http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/mad.gif
  16. I thought you could use Wii controllers in the 'traditional' manner. Is that incorrect? EDIT: Also, is 720p for the TV a waste of money? Should we just look at 1080i? It seems quite a few LDCs are 720p.
  17. I have a possible situation upcoming that I'll present as a hypothetical: I have a 20" tube TV. GF wants us to make the next 'big' purchase be a flat-screen TV for the living room, shifting the tube to the bedroom. We will probably at least look at 1080i (if I have any influence http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif ), and the new one would be at least 20", but probably nothing bigger than 30" or so. All I'd want to play on a gaming system is sports games (though I know S.Smash Bros. & Mario Cart are sweet... don't 'need' them), and the GF might want to play the occasional adventure game (think Crash Bandicoot... her favorite). So it'd be for a small-ish new TV, and we have DVD players -- so no worries there. Is the Wii going to be fine? I wouldn't even care about using the remote as the nunchucks or whatever. I'd be willing to buy a different set of 'normal' controllers if that's what it took. I like the price difference compared with PS3 & 360, and I remember feeling like I got burned by purchasing an XBox instead of Gamecube ('cube was cheaper then, too, and after I played a buddy's, I realized it would've done everything I waned from my console). Any advice is greatly appreciated.
  18. You just suck at fielding. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif I haven't seen that yet, jazzytrav. I have to say that I like the way they've added players being able to gather their momentum on the move in the IF. Is that worded clearly enough that anyone understands what I mean? Might be unclear.
  19. "We didn't know that she was a senior or that this was her first home run," Wallace said Wednesday. "That makes the story more touching than it was. We just wanted to help her." This makes it even more awesomeness-er.
  20. As for Branyan, get real. No major league team even offered him a spring training invite this year. Wow, a 32 year old is hitting well for 80 AB's at AAA. Whop de do. He's still fanned 25 times in 80 AB's against mostly has beens and unproven prospects. Last September for St. Louis (as they fell out of the race), he was a whopping 6 for 32 (.188), with 1 HR, and 2 RBI and 15 K's. You could DH Mike Rivera and get better production than that. Yea, stupid best pitching in the world save MLB. AAA pitchers all suck. How about, 'whoop dee doo,' Gwynn has 6 hits in 16 AB. If you base personnell decisions on thing like that, and think he is capable of batting .375, you'd have a mess on your hands. Russ strikes out. A lot. This is not news. What he can do is put up a .750-.850 OPS off your bench, play 1B/3B/LF, neither of which Gwynn can do.
  21. Best of luck, Derrick, and please work as hard as you can on figuring out how to locate your breaking ball again. I know you can pull this off.
  22. Nothing anywhere as extreme. What I'm saying is that injury concerns were treated by many as 'What're the chances of something like that happening?'... 'Seems silly to worry about', etc. An injury like this now has serious repercussions in every season Tulowitzki plays from now on. His knee is now that much more likely to have problems in the future, even over the next 5-6 seasons (the course of his deal). To borrow from your style of 'It's not like he died', it's not like he sprained his ankle or broke his toe here.
  23. As long as we're 'just sayin', "Police" is plural.
