  1. Maybe sweet pepper and egg sandwich is the name of Trevon's crossover move? It is now. Our crossover naming WOAHs have been SOLVDD. I can't wait for our first 'in-context' use of the nickname!
  2. I expect Weeks and Hardy to be a little better than those numbers suggest but given their careers so far I can understand why they have conservative projections. Well said. I'd imagine that, since they just crunch numbers (as in, PT-wise), the averages from recent years (small sample) will say that JJ & Rickie will miss decent portions of their forecasted 2008.
  3. The discussions always just seem to come back to me not fully understanding how much I hurt her and how I'm not the kind of person she felt I was and I will never understand how she feels. Ultimately, I know the decision I made was the right one for me, and if my heart and feelings weren't going to be in the relationship, it was probably the fair decision for her too. You've hashed out the relevant details right there, Mac. Sure, her perspective counts, too - but don't lose what you know to be true.
  4. Jumpin' Mac, you've handled it well thus far, it sounds like. You have to be unafraid to do what's best for you, and it sounds like this is what you've done. It sounds very much like she'd disagree with the 'I couldn't see marriage/long-term' angle, but that's life. If you know your decision to be right for you, then don't be afraid to stick by it. There's nothing that says you have to get berated, but you sound like a cool guy to be willing to discuss it with her. It's tough to not be on the same page with someone in this way, but don't feel wrong that you believe in something different from her. It's only natural that someone would feel frustrated and/or angry if they felt the long-term thing were there.
  5. So 46. Booyah. Hawing gets the Stuart Scott Award for the thread!
  6. He was a pretty big-time recruit, but I personally wouldn't go as far as to call his jumpshot "pure." He looks to be a streaky shooter to me, which is fine given his defensive value & other offensive skills.
  7. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif We can only wish, right joshjs?
  8. Being pessimistic (or as they term it, "Mean"-istic) would seem to inherently miss breakout seasons. As a general rule, though, I like it - as it'd be more irresponsible imho for them to be projecting better than what many players end up doing.
  9. Me neither on the 'why was Scott platooned?', end. I recall seeing more than just a handful of "Free Luke Scott" signs while watching Astros games in 2007.
  10. RoCo & others curious - the 3-year MLB splits on Scott v. LHP: .259/.372/.431/.803 That's 116 ABs, with a BB/K of 18/38 (vs. 74/123 against RHP). In 2005 in the PCL (AAA), his OPS was 1.049 (.394/.655 OBP/SLG) over 113 ABs v. LHP In 2006 in the PCL his OPS v. LHP was 1.101 (.418/.683) over 104 ABs. I know that individually, they're all small samples, but taken together you can see that Scott can hit LHP. Aside from getting Kearns (a wizard on D), Scott is likely my first choice at this point.
  11. I really am convinced that 2008 is going to be the year of Rickie. I agree, thebrewer - I think his power numbers that everyone's been waiting to see are going to be there like they were this past season after he got his wrist cleaned up. I'd expect JJ to take a bit of a dip, but not quite as extreme as the ZiPS project. For Hall to bounce back even slightly more than shown wouldn't surprise me one bit. Player Spotlight - Ryan Braun Name AVG OBP SLG G AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI BB K SB CS Optimistic (15%) .317 .377 .632 152 574 105 182 40 6 43 124 54 107 21 6 Mean .294 .332 .554 143 538 85 158 33 4 33 93 30 113 15 7 Pessimistic (15%) .274 .318 .505 114 430 59 118 23 2 24 62 28 97 9 6 I found this an interesting read, and a way to help understand the ZiPS a bit better. My guess, it seems, is that for Braun he'll be somewhere above the mean & below their "Optimistic." They don't show the "Optimistic" for Weeks, but whatever that is would probably be my guess on him. Encouraging to see their projections on YoGa & some of our other pitchers, but frustrating (yet understandable) to see only 23 starts projected for Benny (27 in their optimistic projection). This team needs pitching, and badly, for 2008. 12. Thanks for linking that, Robideaux. I agree with RoCo's "nothing too crazy" sentiment. Also agree that they've got Weeks projected much lower in BBs, but I also felt across the board it was a tad conservative for him. If JJ & Rickie each only post 15 HR in 2008, I'll be really surprised (I know the projections likely don't take into account Rickie's wrist feeling better). I also have a sneaking feeling that Fielder will see more than 83 BBs.
  13. I think Scott would be a nice fit for us in LF, josh. He appears average at worst defensively. The bulk of his innings came in RF in 2007 (where he finished with a .918 RZR), but I'd imagine he'd play just as well in LF. Imho, "athletic" should be the lowest on the list of DM priorities.
  14. It was from Melvin's comments on how the team would address LF for 2008. He said he wanted an athletic guy who plays good D & has good OBP - tied to the 'Brewers have never had a player draw 100 BBs in a season' thing.
  15. Posts #23 & 24 were essenitally identical questions, posted within a minute of one another. I am now dumb.
  16. lol! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/laugh.gif That's gotta be the funniest exchange I've seen. BHF - get ready for an odd drive to the HOF. It feels like you're driving through northern WI - farms, winding country roads. You'll think you're getting lost, but it's very accurately signed & as long as you don't give up on the next sign, you'll get there just fine.
  17. great pics, boys! I love that we get one of Veterans' Stadium. What a jewel that was!
  18. Yea, the #53 is an old Abreu player t-shirt
  19. Bhf - is the park between RFK & the Metrodome Citizens Bank Park?
  20. I could see that being a good place to start, yea. Not sure what (if anything) else it'd take to get it done. I'd rather move Vargas (obviously), but if I had to pick one of your proposed two to keep - it'd be Bush.
  21. It's awesome thjat the dude with the sig from areacodes posted righ t after areacodes. Jeff = you're my boy!
  22. Ok, I'll be the rowdy one - WHOO WHOO WHOO WHOO! [pumps fist in air] http://koti.mbnet.fi/jayjay/tvdome/martiallaw/kuvat/hall2.jpg
  23. heh - that's my wallpaper, too, casey. From an older thread very, very similar to this. Iirc, a fellow BF.netter created the wallpaper.
  24. I've been looking for a pic of Corey's catch in left center when he crashed into the wall (I think it was in Houston)... anyone? Sorry I can't help you with a picture, Baldy, but yes - that was in Minute Maid Park. Right into the wall of the Brewers' bullpen. Maybe there's a pic at the MJS site?
  25. "Soto will compete for the starting job in Chicago in 2008." No duh. Really the way to look at it is - who's going to compete with Soto? Two of the Cubs players that I worry about most at this point are Soto & Pie. Two super-talented youngsters at premium positions.
