  1. I agree that it's spooky to think what could have happened... especially to Hendrickson the batter. What if he'd have been the guy Wiser pluked in the head - would he have been able to get his face away from the ball in time? Sheesh. Good for him, though (and I guess hitters too - safety-wise) in getting a fix. Between the spacious ballpark in Miami & his vision being corrected, I think it's safe to expect a decent-to-good year from Mark.
  2. I also would like to see them include an organizations top 5-10 prospects and have them in their minor league system. That would just add to total awesomeness of the game, in my humble opinion. The main problem there, I think, is the MLBPA. They negotiate the player compensation with the game studio/distributor/whoever (perhaps this is all covered in the CBAs), and guys that are in the minors aren't members in MLBPA. But I don't want to take away from your suggestion on top prospects - that'd be a huge upgrade to the way the 'franchise' & 'career' modes play. They do the big two-three prospects now, but just use generic names.
  3. The more I played The Show 07, the more I saw its own bugs. I still think it's the best choice out there, and perhaps the best baseball video game yet. I'll check it out for '08, most likely. My biggest gripe (aside from them having an actual numeric "Clutch" rating) is the lack of attention to defense. They rate players defensively not too dissimilarly from the GG voters. I think baseball video games have a ton of room to still improve - largely by embracing more in-depth coverage of players. I'll always be able to forgive them not having the minor-league studs (at least by their real names), since there's so much player movement within any given minor-league system. I just can't deal with seeing guys like Dunn & Lee, etc. get rated out as average or better defensively. They actually do a pretty solid job of capturing the vast majority of players' offensive abilities, but on D it's a total crap-shoot at best.
  4. How are you dealing with your excitement for the upcoming season? By reminding myself how quickly it's going to pass once it arrives. Reminding myself to enjoy each play/pitch of each game... because the Brewers may not have a team this talented again for a long time. 2008 is the/a year...
  5. The hosts also mentioned that the Brewers are the only baseball franchise never to have hired a manager with post-season experience. I can't get too worked up over that part. Hurdle didn't have any, Wedge didn't have any... it's so much more about talent on the roster imo.
  6. And there you have it... why guys walk around a locker room buck naked, ladies & gentlemen!
  7. Ok - so I'm having one now for me... maybe one for you next. One of my favorite parts about buying a 12-pk. of beer is putting it into a full/semi-full fridge, where you can't just stack it all right in the same area. It makes every trip to the fridge like an easter egg hunt! Except, instead of having candy on the inside, it's beer.
  8. I liked Yost to start 2007 and grew to hate him, i don't see why he couldn't earn my respect back. He made a lot of just terrible moves, there are moves that you can question and not be sure if you are correct or not and then there are idiotic moves like leaving Mench in to face Dempster with the game on the line and Jenkins on the bench. Yost made too many of those sure thing bad moves for me to stick by him last season. I'm in the same boat. If that makes me just a 'hata' to some, I guess I can't really do anything to change that. This is not some centuries-old, deeply rooted, tribal hatred for a name or person. There's actually some reality at play, too.
  9. Its not like the Yost haters are ever going to stop hating on the man. They have it in their minds that he is a horrible manager, and I don't see that changing no matter what the results. To divide this into 'Hatas' and 'Non-Hatas' does a disservice to the entire discussion. I don't think this thread or Ned (one or the other) will be around, because the argument has devolved from actually discussing anything tangible to namecalling. That's just mho, obviously.
  10. One of the following two will not last the entire 2008 season: Ned Yost, "Ned Yost Yay or Nay thread"
  11. -I don't have anything particular to do for the rest of the day. Time for a beer. Please have one for me, too. I can't wait to get offa work & head to Zuppan's to check out their selection. Mmmm... beeeeeer. EDIT: Ok, so the line at Subway was really long when I took lunch, so I headed to the cafe next door & had a Jubilale. Mmmm! Btw, that does not get you off the hook for having that beer, AT. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  12. For me, it's not some vaguely-defined quantity of wins. It's how he performs as manager - highly subjective, I know. Boy oh boy... this thread's gonna have a full head of steam and then some by the time Opening Day gets here.
  13. What? Everyone knows Yost critics don't use logic!
  14. It's a good thing the rest of Batman Begins is almost literally flawless, because Katie Holmes is so bad, akward, and talentless in that role that she alone nearly ruins the entire movie for me.
  15. I have a framed print of a fish on the wall of our office, but I'm not a fisherman. I don't even like fishing But if the print isn't of the fish being lured, hooked, reeled in, netted, etc... wouldn't the real question be: Do you like fish/swimming/water/aquatic life/sea horses?
  16. Uh oh - the beast is back. Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the forum... Does the thought of Ned's mind playing with the lineup make anyone else nervous? Yes.
  17. Entertainment value BB - 3 SB - 5 1B - 4 2B - 6 3B - 9 HR - 10
  18. If only we could cut the rain down to about 2/3 of normal level - which, mind you, would still be a TON. It drives me a bit crazy, but you certainly can see how the greenery & landscape in general thrives upon said rain. I can't wait for June/July when we can all enjoy some nice weather & the gorgeous scenery.
  19. Good gracious it's beautiful here today in Portland. I haven't seen a more beautiful view of the mountains - especially Mt. St. Helens & Mt. Hood - than is visible today. I wish I had a good camera so I could share!
  20. GAME05 - it's completely acceptable to convert to primarily wine in the battle of wine-v.-beer - just remind anyone who cracks on you that wine has the higher ABV! It's a great feeling being an All-Star on your flip-cup team, being shifted around to flip-cup cleanup and everything Well done, sir! It's always fun to clean up in drinking games... especially when you overpower the 'young kid(s) who assume/s you're rusty'!
  21. That's exactly my point. I'd rather have a deep bullpen that a bench that's left to rot on the pine or be missuesd. Huh - is your point is that since Yost is crappy, you want a deeper bullpen instead of bench? That's a tad odd, but I can understand it. Somebody said we need a bench for double switches. Why? You really want to bring in craig counsel or gabe gross and take out potentially Hall or Hart or Hardy or weeks or Braun or Prince just so the pitcher's spot doesn't come up for a few more batters? That seems shortsighted to me. Set the lineup and let them play. That 'somebody' would be me - and as mentioned, you need PHers, and guys to provide off days for the regulars. The game isn't played on paper, and sometimes things have to get mixed around - I can't pretend to be able to explain exactly how & when, but to think that having another good/solid player on the bench isn't useful is misguided, imo. The fewer moving parts the better for Yost. If nothing else, at least we can agree on one thing! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  22. "He hates these cans! Stay away from the cans!" Gaawwd I love The Jerk!! Thank you, TVLand! "It's a profit deal... Takes the pressure off!"
  23. 40 year old guys have a tendency to get hurt. Graffy was fine, but the time for him has passed. Graffy wasn't & isn't 40. Nor do 40-y-o's 'have the tendency' to severly injure their knees on a freak play that could've injured any player at any age. He was better than 'fine' for us. We had a deep bench last year and what did it get us? Kevin Mench batting in the 9th inning against a right handed cubs reliever. Mench was left in the game, not subbed. Jenkins was on our deep bench, ready to help his team win, but according to Ned wasn't in the "flow of the game." Good call, Ned. Besides, even if Yost had subbed Mench for Jenks, would that be the fault of the depth, or a crappy managerial move? If a RP gets hurt, we call one up from AAA. The flexibility of having one more bench position player imo is SO much greater than having one more Seth McClung.
  24. The season is long - guys get tired, things happen... a deep bench, especially in the NL (double switches, etc.) is a very, very good thing. Better to keep the arms fresh in the bullpen than have a guy like Tony Graffanino around Is this a knock on Graffy? He was a very sound player for us, and provided exactly what you want from a bench player. If anything, he was our best reserve before he got hurt.
