  1. I worry about 2007-08 being a rough year for the Badgers, but I do agree with the sentiment that Ryan's coaching skills will play a big role, too. I think on the whole the team is more well-balanced, but we will miss that big-scoring-game ability of Tucker. It was nice to have a guy that was liable to go off for 30 on any given night/day. Hughes will likely be a lateral move at worst at the point, considering what others have mentioned already re. his PG mentality. I wouldn't call Krabbenhoft a guard, personally, so I also have concerns about depth at G. Landry is poised for a big-time breakout year, so I hope we see some improvement in his back-to-the-basket game. A starting 5 of Hughes/Bohannon/Krabby/Landry/Butch with Steimsma 1st off the bench should be tough on most teams.
  2. One thing I've been pondering today is how Lidge's SLGA will play in Citizens Bank Park. He was unable to keep his SLGA under .400 for a second straight year in 2007, and if he can't rein it in for '08, we could be looking at a .450 or higher SLGA for a RP. The fans in Philly would be patient, though.
  3. If And That's taught me anything from watching Cops all these years, it's that I wouldn't trade Hardy for a healthy Baldelli.
  4. 144 career HR for Mr. Leonard (pssst - bhf - you're off by one!)
  5. Ok, so Ryan Church is looking a whole lot more enticing right now.
  6. http://www.beatles.ws/ys-er45.gif Think of the quantity involved here...
  7. You are the devil. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/laugh.gif
  8. It's interesting that this is being seriously examined. More to come this offseason, methinks.
  9. The general protocol for a thread title preface works very well in the IGT forum, so I see no reason why it can't work in here, too. I'm all for the RUMOR/PROPOSAL header (or some variant thereof) on new trade forum threads.
  10. I'd be all over that. That's a good idea, Hammer - but probably a lot of extra work (?).
  11. The key is to be patient with people, not in their face about things. True, but to be fair, Mass said something along the lines of 'nipping this in the bud.' As in, there aren't necessarily a ton of threads that meet the criteria yet, but there were enought to make him think about it getting worse further into the offseason. I don't think anyone's really overstating that there are numerous really unbalanced trade proposals made each year. Your point about patience is very astute - and very true. However, if there is to be extra patience invoked, why not ask more of those who still have much to learn, too? If nothing else, Mass's purpose in starting this thread has clearly been realized. That's a good thing for everyone. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  12. This is part of the misconception, I think. MH (or anyone else) never suggested that you can't do the 'dream big' posts, just that they aren't Vargas + TGJ + ZJ for [big Star]. He's assuming that other people are not taking posting thoughts as seriously as other. That's elitist, no matter how much you spin it. No it's not. Just because someone questions whether or not people are putting some homework behind their thread(s) doesn't mean any assumption. The only way it's 'inherently elitist' is if you assume the most tyrannical manifestation/manipulation of Mass's original post. There was nothing like that to be found. Do you really think it's unreasonable to assume that not everyone puts in the same amount of background in trade proposals? He's not asking for a dissertation, just a bit of light reading. EDIT: I know that I would never make the suggestions I originally made in the Trade Rumors two years ago. Ditto for me, too. But even when I was less educated on the ever-expanding world of stats (not by any means saying I'm anywhere above entry-level), I took time to try & make sure any proposal/response I offered was at least plausible. And from my recollection from last offseason, you did too, strawboss.
  13. It's surprising to me the amount of venom that this thread has generated. I'm shocked, quite frankly. It is very easy to not read them in the first place or like others have said, offer up your own ideas. No offense, but MassHaas puts in an incredible amount of time providing coverage on the Brewers (typically those branches below MLB). My guess is that if he had more time, he'd be weighing in quite a bit more often. The notion that this is elitist is ignoring the valid concern MH brought to light in his original post. It's not elitist to ask people to do just the smallest amount of homework. There are plenty of forums & websites that don't bother with that at all, so it's not like there's a shortage in that regard. If you want to start a thread, shouldn't you do enough work to make sure it's not an 8-post thread? Obviously the count of posts is not directly related to its quality, but you get what I'm saying. Even if it turns out to be a short thread, at least provide something to consider. Imho those who find Mass's assertion offensive/elitist are broadening his brushstrokes. No one is suggesting that we all rate - or that the mods rate - each thread to determine if it sucks or is awesome. Just that if you can stop and take 30 seconds and realize the trade suggestion is really not well-balanced, either don't post it (a post that, intentionally or not, waits for two or three posts away to point out its lack of objectivity), or refine your thought. I personally don't find it offensive to suggest that people should think through an idea. It makes discussion much more stimulating.
  14. just a guess, but to avoid posters from having to 'police' that kind of stuff. I really don't take MH's point as elitist, just trying to avoid the 6-post-long 'TGJ + Vargas for Miguel Cabrera' threads. What's wrong with that?
  15. Agreed. An injection of levity into this forum is much needed, and would be very useful.

  17. Only two posts to turn into a Yost debate? That's gotta be a record... http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  18. Thanks, lb. You hit the nail on the head. Fortunately, I've seen that the Wii has FIFA Soccer & Winning Eleven soccer, which, iirc, are both very solid games. Tiger Woods, too. Should be enough to tide me over, as I can't see them not adding at least MLB 2k8 by next year. But that's obviously me being optimistic! Turborickey - I think the Wii will be a very, very hard item to come by this X-mas season. Take dadofandrew's path and get on Ebay sooner rather than later. From the prices I've seen looking around, $291 was a great deal. The only availability beyond Ebay that I've seen is the Wii being sold in bundles (extra games, controllers, etc.) for roughly $500.
  19. Not sure what you mean specifically, foamboy, but the 360 has the best wireless controllers I've ever used. Not one problem with them in hours of gameplay.
  20. Am I a bad person for doubting the story? Absolutely not.
  21. Uninformed-lacking-time-to-read-entire-thread-guy asks: Does the Wii have a baseball game (maybe 2K sports?) that isn't cartoon-y or NBA Jam-y? While I respect your piece on Power Pros, bball123h, I just want a decent baseball game without the novelty feel.
  22. Nice, hawing! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif Hey, what happened to all the other smilies? How come they aren't below the text box any longer? Stupid not having sunglasses & cigarette cool guy...
  23. I love the Rock. Sure, he makes his mistakes, but as mentioned - he's better than many other (bigger) markets. Part of this, to be sure, has to do with the fact that he's been our color announcer basically since I can remember religiously following the team on TV. He's the Jenks of the broadcast booth. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif All in all, our broadcast is really quite good. Our cameramen/truck guys are really, really good on replays/camera angles, and I've mentioned how much BA has grown on me as well. I'm really looking forward to enjoying them in 2008.
  24. No, bando, it's the 'good eyes in you.' http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  25. ok so I shot back a email at him and this is the first chance I got to check my email due to the Packers game but here is what is fact. The TV station is reporting that there is a rumor going down that Carl Crawford would be coming to Milwaukee as part of a 3 team trade with the Brewers and Royals. He then made up the rumor. Thanks for clarifying, MtB. Very cool of you to do so. Interesting to hear such a big rumor, and with the Renteria trade going down pretty big today, it's a reminder that nothing is set in stone in MLB.
