  1. Anyone know anything about Joe Girardi (as a manager) other than that his 2006 Marlins exceeded expectations? He even turned down the Cubs job, iirc. He may be holding out for the NYY job, but that seems an odd gamble to play.
  2. with you on the last point. Has Carlos contacted you for legal representation yet? He probably could not find a bigger supporter!http://static.yuku.com//domainskins/bypass/img/smileys/smile.gif
  3. Not gonna respond to the other stuff, since this was my only beef. http://static.yuku.com//domainskins/bypass/img/smileys/smile.gif It just overlooks so much involved that is wwaaaayy out of the control of the pitcher
  4. It's not that I want to 'bite' on that line, I simply have to - I have no idea to what you refer, and honestly had to look up "Kristin Davis" to figure out she's the brunette from Sex & the City. I get the feeling I'm going to really be embarassed when I do find out though...
  5. Well, regardless of what you assume, I harbor no ill will toward Carlos, nor did I take the time to make sure to single him out - it was just a spontaneous comment. I've never been one to bash him, I just think the prospect of paying a guy that much money when he's going to be over 34, and can't DH, was a bad decision. It's really the only thing I could think of as a 'bad decision' that I knew of Purpura making (largely due to the fact that I know squat about the Astros, and Lee's a former Brewer). Yes, quite blatantly obviously, Lee has been a bright spot for them this year. My comment was specifically referring to one element of his game (or lack thereof) that is going to be atrocious by the time he's in the last few years of that contract. Otherwise, I struggle to find anything wrong with that signing, as El Caballo is a proven, relatively steady, producer. I had no intent of singling out Lee for 2007 - it was nowhere on my mind when I posted - just to light-heartedly speculate on something that I could imagine McLane being upset about, since it doesn't seem to the outsider that Purpura was bad in any real way - just that he's a guy who got thrown under the bus.
  6. in terms of 'super two' status designation/arbitration judgment? I can't imagine his stats in AAA would magically count as MLB IP (I don't mean to imply Villy is going to be a 'super two', as I have no clue one way or the other)
  7. Yikes! I was making reference to the future, but wow. Thanks for chopping me up there totally unneccesarily. I never said, "Carlos Lee's range in the OF in 2007 is the reason the Astros stink & now both Mgr. & GM are gone." I just made an off-the-cuff comment about what I think is an over-priced contract - just perhaps not for this year. I don't understand why you had to go on the attack there, but I can't say that, in taking my post to mean what you did, I'd have reacted differently. We can still play nice. http://static.yuku.com//domainskins/bypass/img/smileys/wink.gif EDIT: Try this wording: "...when his range will slip to only being able to cover..." Don't see how that got past so many posts without someone else taking your meaning if it was so unclear, but I'll admit I didn't type exactly what I was trying to say. As mentioned, that contract really pushed the 'Stros past the point of being able to go out and get another big FA, and given their depleted farm system, it looks like that'd be what it'd take to field a better team in '08
  8. Is the plan really to bring Villy back up? I remembered the brass stating they wanted him to go down to "stretch out" so he can rejoin the starting rotation. Is he really already re-adjusted? I'd think it'd take at least another start, which would still be within the 18-day restriction. My guess (as I mentioned) is that this is to clear the way for Benny's return. I know McClung is an easy guy to target for sending to AAA, but isn't he out of options? Thought I'd read that. That wouldn't seem to make sense, since I'm sure another MLB team somewhere would have a spot for him. With Cappy bumped to the 'pen for the time being, along with Parra, McClung, Shouse, Wise, Linebrink, T-Bow, & CoCo, imo adding Villy to the bullpen doesn't make a ton of sense - especially due to our need for SPing. Once Sheets is back, YoGa can slide to the 'pen (to help keep his innings down), and by then I'd speculate that Villy would be much more 'ready' to get back at starting.
  9. Aarrrgh! Why do we still have to hear the 'Pitchers are evaluated by W-L record' argument? How many times does this need to be objectively refuted before people soak it in?
  10. especially after just reading his article, I'll be interested to hear Rluz's opinion here. It's hard to be objective right now, given that the team can turn this skid around and get hot at any time...
  11. http://static.yuku.com//domainskins/bypass/img/smileys/roll.gif! My favorite excerpt: "...and I believe that our education, like, such as in South Africa and, uh, the Eye-Rack, everywhere like such as, and, I believe that they should , uh, our education over here(!), in the U.S., should help the U.S., should help South Africa, and should help the Eye-Rack, and the Asian countries, so we will be able to build up our future -- for our children." [smiles] --- Lauren Caitlen Upton I may be changing my sig in the not-too-distant future. And for the love of the Fertile Crescent people - it's pronounced 'Ee-rahck'! Just because Dubya says it this way doesn't make it right - he said 'Nook-u-lar', too! (not a political comment...) To be fair, my 'excerpt' is almost the whole thing, but I just can't go without being able to read that again, and again, and again. Dumb question -- atrociously incoherent & brainless answer. I know she's on the spot, but I'd love to see what she'd have written/spoken given a minute or two to prepare. That still would have been funny. I love how she includes the obligatory nods to education, our children, and how we need to build a better future for them. In response to a question about US citizens & map usage. Classic. And Mario looked like he could barely keep himself together by the end. Kudos to him, I'd have been rolling.
  12. [Forget] you Jobu! I'll do this myself! http://static.yuku.com//domainskins/bypass/img/smileys/wink.gif
  13. Naw, didn't take it personally, just felt I could clarify. I'm with you all the way on people blaming the manager for random stuff over which he has no control. But that's what tends to happen when the team skids - the manager is the lightning rod, and receives undo credit oftentimes when his team is playing well, too. My beef with Yost is that he does in fact have several solid choices out in the bullpen - perhaps none are lights out as we'd desire, but my beef (as stated) comes when those bullpen choices, when well-rested, are most likely going to be much more effective than a starter who is really showing signs of tiring (losing location, leaving pitches down the middle, losing snap on breaking pitches). I know our 'pen has been getting exhausted, as you point out, but I saw this troublesome 'Let's see what happens...' approach again in the final game in SF - when we actually did have Linebrink & Shouse available, and a stinkin' game to win.
  14. I have been much more descriptive, but since I'd made similar statements to rluz in a couple other threads, I didn't want to be a broken record. What burns me up is Ned's 'Let's just leave this guy in - if he blows the lead then I'll make the move' mindset. Our front office went out and got Linebrink, Shouse is solid, T-Bow is better more often than he isn't, and CoCo has been pretty darn good this year. Is it really Linebrink's fault that Corey Hart didn't get to that pop-up down the line? Whether he was/is hurt or hurting isn't clear, but it looked that he had every chance to make a play on that blooper - then he sent a crappy throw to the plate, when even a decent one would've caught Feliz (heck, his crappy one almost gave Miller a shot at the tag) EDIT: responding to dvoiss
  15. I suggest Brewer 'fans' not give up on their team, who - like it or not - is still very much contending for the NL Central crown. This thread makes me ticked off, though I understand its harmless (& frustrated) intentions
  16. THANKS FOR YOUR WELL-RESEARCHED THEORY Welcome aboard, but sheesh! Just trying to incite people on post #2?
  17. HEAD ON - APPLY DIRECTLY TO THE FOREHEAD HEAD ON - APPLY DIRECTLY TO THE FOREHEAD HEAD ON - APP....http://www.anatomorphex.com/picts/shatter/FX013_EXPLODING_HEAD.jpg
  18. I moved to Oregon, and I think the Brewers still haven't gotten over that. I formally apologize to all Brewers employees, family members, friends, and fans.
  19. Nice scoop, Bruce. Wow - let the 'Scrap Iron in for Yost TODAY!' threads/chants begin, huh? McLane must have had some time to think about what it's going to be like shelling out big-money to El Caballo when his 'range' only covers balls hit from the right side of the Crawford Boxes to the LF foul pole - I don't see Purpura as that bad of a GM. Lost season frustrates owner; owner lets heads roll.
  20. Brewtank = Claudio Vargas (or his best friend)? http://static.yuku.com//domainskins/bypass/img/smileys/wink.gif
  21. I guess I've just seen more than enough of my share of good reasons to fire Yost, emotions excluded. When I read that original post, I (perhaps erroneously) understand that said logical reasons are implicit in what the author projects to be both the cause of and Attanasio's ire itself.
  22. Ned had the look on his face of a man who very much realizes he's in trouble, for whatever that's worth. He's usually much more venemous/annoyed/defensive when answering questions after a loss - today he just seemed lost.
  23. Call me a cynic (you'd be right), but I have a sneaking suspicion that this is more of a "sore back" than a sore back. I think Claudio used up his last chance in SF, and is either being cleared out of the way on the 25-man for Benny's return, or in preparation for the Sept. 1 deadline, though I'll admit I'm not nearly as well-versed as some in that area
