  1. Carlos Zambrano. And no, Lamb personally didn't deserve it, but he's part of the team. If Cooper (the head of the combined team body) made that move, you often see the toe or elbow or arm (as in, Lamb) get hit. It's just the way those things tend to work.
  2. As far as Aquino goes, you should be happy that Yost came out and said that if he had it to do over again, he would've summoned Cordero. For me, this gets precisely at the crux of the issue: He doesn't get a do-over. And anyone knew (except Ned) the right move was Cordero - at the point in time when the decision had to be made, not reflecting upon it later, after the poor move worked out poorly. I am in no way happy about Ned admitting he was horribly wrong, because it was painfully obvious in the game situation that he was. This isn't like it was bringing in TBow over CoCo, this was literally going to your worst option (next to staying with a LHP) against Pence with the game on the line. I'd still have been ticked if he'd chose Wise, but then I could defend him with, "Well, at least he knew enough to not call Acquino - the guy that has done nothing but prove he's not cut out for MLB action this year."
  3. It's NOT AUTOMATIC in my mind. This YOSTED business is silly. Because the other option isn't AUTOMATIC is why I don't place any wins or losses directly on the manager. Case in point, on another day, Acquino could have been lights out and Cordero could have come in and given up a 3-run jack, it's up to the players to perform as they are capable. But the point at which I just don't understand you is why you don't care whether or not your manager plays his best option. This is our one and only shot at the playoffs as far as Yost goes - there is no guarantee that we will be in the mix every year for the next 5 (though there is, at worst, a decent chance) - and if we don't make it this year, Yost is likely out of the job. Yet he continues to have a weakness for playing a lower percentage move than the best one he has available. Why does this not disturb you? Nowhere have I ever made the assertion that the higher percentage move is guaranteed to come through. But why don't you care if you have the best option out there or not? Acquino has proven again and again that he is not 'lights-out.' Cordero, on the other hand, has proven to be lights-out waaaaaay more often than he's not. Why do you see this as a toss-up? I agree with you (nor have I ever disagreed) that Yost does indeed use rationale for his decision-making, which makes it all the more disturbing that he so often tends to make a choice that is < his best available option in high-leverage situations, such as Monday night.
  4. Amen, DJ. I'm getting sick of being told how crazy I am. Lcbj, your point on how a difference in percentages (an example of something over which a manager does sometimes directly affect) is negligible is just plain off. Your throw-away of a ten-point percentage gap in either way is exactly why you aren't understanding why the critics have beef. A .330 hitter is a significant upgrade over a .250 hitter, so why would you want your manager to either stick with or sub in the inferior player - or maybe better stated, why wouldn't you be upset if he did so?
  5. With regards to DJ's post - are any of you "All you guys do is second-guess the moves that backfire" people around? This is not the first time someone has made a post like this. Eegads. Whaddya know, the complaints against Yost aren't always 20/20 hindsight -- sometimes people just find fault in strategy, and don't like the decision-making.
  6. Shorley yah'll be havin' some pints, donnie! Since I don't feel like writing a limerick... Don in Ireland Brewers playing better ball 10/1 return flight? Kidding (sort of!), and hope your time on the Isle of Erin are as enjoyable & memorable as mine were!
  7. hawing, everything in that post made me laugh. Nice!

  10. Only questioning moves that don't work is exactly what has been going on, and to be honest, is painfully obvious. This is simply not true.
  11. No, it isn't. The team, as you so eagerly mention, has been blowing leads just like yesterdays for a while now, and a 3-run lead has been completely unsafe. Had Braun's spot not been due to come up as soon as it was, ok, I'm fine with the move. Or if he wasn't Ryan Freakin' Braun. If this was some average hitter who struggles defensively, fine. But this isn't. And if this team was not completely capable & prone to blowing leads lately, fine. But this team is. It's another example of how Yost manages for what he hopes will work out, instead of putting his team in the best position he can to win the game. Stop calling people morons, especially when you don't take the time to think about the other side's opinion(s).
  12. Nice, fbf. Another LOOGY. This is a solid move.
  13. awesome chart work, blingster, thanks for that.
  14. I know, I know, just goofin around
  15. conventional + wisdom = oxy-moron
  16. ...got booed by the fans and told the media that Chicago fans only think of themselves Well at least someone finally said it! I was watching this game today, and when he left, he made two gestures to his ear - to say, "Oh yea, I hear you, you fake fairweather bums." I actually felt for him today, as the fans booed nearly everything that didn't go perfectly. To boo this guy, who has been as dominant a SP in recent memory, just shows the level of ignorance that pervades the Cub "fan"-base. To make it worse, that moron "Len" (p-b-p announcer) actually supported it, with something to the effect of, "Well at least you can say that Cubs fans are passionate. They'll let you know how things are going, and things were awful out there today." This was in the top of the 5th, with the Cubs down only 3 or 4 runs. What a bunch of morons - just an embarassment to the term "Baseball Fans"
  17. And no, I don't think Estrada can be blamed for the pitching troubles of late. Blame him for having a mediocre stick and bad defense. Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes... And please don't retain him for 2008 - PLEASE! http://static.yuku.com//domainskins/bypass/img/smileys/mad.gif
  18. Whoever is tallying how many times we've gotten 'Yosted' this year, add another one to the count I've only tallied since 8/26, but I've got you covered, dharris. Cripes. What else needs to happen for the change to be made? It's making me lose a lot of respect for Melvin that the answer seems to be, "Completely blowing our chance to make the post-season - literally - as in, zero games remaining in the season. If at that point we no longer have a shot at the playoffs, then he's fired." Nevermind the fact that sticking with him is also contributing to our shot at making the playoffs getting smaller everyday...
  19. Let's go CREW! C'mon Benny, more time to shine.
  20. Plus don't forget Rickie is the ultimate 'I'll never tell anyone that I'm hurting' player who had been suffering through the post-op scar tissue break-up for the vast majority of the 2007 season. Once he was sent down, the docs took a look, and mentioned that it was still breaking apart. Even just that little bit of extra time spent in AAA - where the wrist cleared up a bit more - was enough to get Rickie up to the red-hot level at which he's hitting now. And kudos to Rickie for turning what was once a weakness (his glovework) into an asset for the Brewers.
  21. Sorry to say it, but the 'Hall to bat 3d' and 'protection' notions are going to get shot down pretty quickly, man
  22. Thanks for the great clarification buckingham94 (from a buckingham07 http://static.yuku.com//domainskins/bypass/img/smileys/wink.gif ) for all us lowly gentiles, ignorant of jewish traditions/history. That was an interesting read. A real good buddy of mine from college was a 'halfie', too, and really wasn't seriously into observing the faith as strictly as some, it sounds. Guess we'll have to wait 'til 9/21-22 to find out about Brawny!
  23. Hall has had more down times than up this year, and there's really no logical explanation for it. He's just struggling - I'm sure a large part of that is due to other teams knowing just how dangerous he can be, and making sure to not pitch to his strengths. It's all about Billy making an adjustment back, and he's really having a hard time doing that. All of our players have gone through this, but unfortunately Hall's is seeming to last the longest. As mentioned, he can get hot at any time, and attempt to make up for prior struggles down the stretch. I like Ned dropping him down to the 8 spot - a prime example of a good managerial move. Doing that 'worked' with J.J., and it'll allow the damage of ineffective plate appearances to be minimized as much as possible. We know what you can do when you're hot, Billy. Here's hoping you can turn it on sooner rather than later!
  24. Neither FSN Pittsburgh nor FSN Wisconsin are broadcasting this game. http://static.yuku.com//domainskins/bypass/img/smileys/frown.gif
