  1. clancy, not sure what you mean -- the ball he caught wasn't anywhere near a HR, and the batter-runner stopped at 2B. Not sure who hit it, either... But, yea, that missed call was absolute crap. It hurt Gabe that he didn't realize he caught it, but still a totally unacceptable missed call from the crew - most notably the 2B umpire. Plus, that JJ flip to Weeks at 2B was close... but I'm willing to concede that they probably got that one right. The quality of umpiring this year has been noticeably down, imho, and yesterday's game was filled with more exhibits of that decline. EDIT: Or are you referring to the last series we played against Cincy?
  2. I don't know invader, I think you're onto something there. I've felt this way too, and trust me - it's not just in Brewers games. I feel like there are a lot of younger umps working, and I think we've seen a lot of bad officiating in 2007. I'm pretty sure this will get uber-magnified in the post-season, I just hope it doesn't happen to us.
  3. true, but it's also fair to keep in mind that Weeks has been significantly worse lately. While Braun's E total is much higher, that doesn't seal the deal entirely - especially when you take recent results into account. I don't hold my breath when the ball is hit to Braun - he fields balls well & his throwing is suspect. When Rickie's d gets off, both his fielding & throwing are shaky. Please, Rickie, shore up your game! We need you.
  4. I don't know if I've seen much worse work behind the plate than Mike Winters's "strike zone" tonight. By the time the game was nearing its end, it looked like both sides' players weren't even bothering to get upset anymore. His calls were all over the place, and I loved to see Ned get out there, even though arguing balls & strikes is an automatic heave-ho. Well done, Ned. Wish it would've made a difference, but nice effort. I remember being really upset with another ump's work earlier in the year - oh yeah! Doug Eddings....can't remember the game, just that pretty much everyone agreed he had been absolute crap behind the dish. Ah well, guess I'll just have to look forward to Bruce Froemming's quality work tonight! I love his consistency & strike zone.
  5. I'd assume that if he didn't realize he was 'signaling', he wouldn't notice Leyva doing anything. Just a guess.
  6. I don't think that's fair to say - even if you still hold that Braun is inferior to Weeks (lately imho that's incorrect, but we can still use that), the point is that (Braun's O - Braun's D) > (Rickie's O - Rickie's D). I was saying that you cannot credit the manager for winning games when he makes a good decision. Its his %*# to make good decisions. I think this is harsh. While I understand what you're getting at, I just don't agree. Like your point about solitaire, you can make the right move and still not win. You can definitely credit the manager for putting his team/players in the best situation to win, especially when the players come through in such situations. While it may be 'the manager's ''$+%'' to do such, it's Prince Fielder's ''$+%'' to hit the ball hard, yet we still celebrate and praise him when he does so. It's much easier to blame a manager for a poor move, but undeniably fair to also be able to celebrate a smart move. EDIT: why can't I type the word - j-o-b - without it getting 'cuss-filtered'?
  7. I thought that Gross had done that on his own, too, js. Which was weird.
  8. Even though the game was no laughing matter, that's freakin' funny! Yost can't even itch a mosquito bite without making his team lose! FIRE HIM! http://static.yuku.com//domainskins/bypass/img/smileys/wink.gif
  9. paul, I think you hit the nail on the head with why people were confused - innings limit, pennant race, lack of solid SP, huge lead, extra arms in BP, YoGa pitching the 7th?
  10. Honest question: Was Dave Bush's arm hurting tonight? By the end of the 1st, it looked like he couldn't get his fastball much above 80mph. I am seriously concerned about this. I know he got rocked, but the highest velocity I saw him hit tonight was 88, and that was to the first batter of the game. Anyone else notice anything in this vein?
  11. mls, your avatar rocks - did you make that? Or where did you get it? EDIT: He's not just trashing the Brewers either, he also seems to be saying that it's not possible that Detroit, Seattle, Philly, or the Dodgers could somehow make up 3 games in the last 3 weeks Amen.
  12. I care so much what some ignorant, lazy hack has to say about the teams on which he's had some interns compile some stats. I'd be willing to bet every single one of those team blurbs is riddled with errors. I refuse to call this man a writer, let alone a sportswriter. Just another in the long, long line of blabbermouths. Direct quote from this blockhead: In the old days of journalism, before blogging and podcasting and video streaming on that there Internet thingy, one of the first assignments of a cub reporter was the obituary desk. There, the young professional would learn the tricks of getting out the facts, and only the facts, in a tight, simple, no-frills manner. Glamorous, no. Essential, yes Take your own advice, moron.
  13. This looks to be a good pitching matchup. Plus, we owe Arroyo for that last outing - afterwards he noted how unpatient we were, essentially laughing at us without actually laughing. Our offense seems to be red-hot right now (even without a 14-run outburst, I'd still feel that way, but it obviously doesn't hurt), and I hope we can carry that into one of the best hitter's parks in all of MLB. LET'S GO CREW!
  14. Logan, I think what has prevented Cra-Z from being beaned is that the retribution would almost certainly be your SP getting drilled, which obviously no one wants. That's just my 2 cents, though
  15. I think what he mentioned was that your notion about '5%' ignored the fact that the bunt may not be successful. At least I think so.
  16. why can't this go in the thread already established? Not meant to be mean...
  17. An honest question here (someone mentioned it in the Yost Yea or Nay thread): Would pulling YoGa tonight have made sense for the near future? Would limiting his IP/pitch count have helped extend him for the potential of another start or appearance? Nevermind the fact the his face almost got crushed when that reliever lost the handle on his fastball. Was there anything to gain by pulling him after the 5th? I know the two innings from tonight alone are not enough to really count for another start, but might it have been a good gamble to yank the youngin' earlier tonight? I was surprised to see him come back out after the 5th, and can't really think of a reason that playing it safe tonight could have hurt. That said, his performance tonight was fantastic (including turning in 3 great ABs), and he clearly had the gas to go the 7 innings - no concern on that front.
  18. If only Clemens had ever pitched in the National League.
  19. Here's to Billy Hall! Way to go Bill, and your classiness of simply putting your head down to run the bases was a beautiful thing to see. But it did actually make me think, 'oh - he just missed it, dang!' Thanks for fooling me with classiness, can't wait for you to get back in your groove!
  20. Kurt, that's hands-down the best one in this thread, imho. Nigel Tufnel: [pointing to a customized Marshall amplifier head unit] This is a top, to, uh, you know, what we use on stage, but it's very, very special, because, if you can see... Marty DiBergi: Yeah... Nigel Tufnel: [pointing to the control dials] ...the numbers all go to eleven. Look, right across the board: eleven, eleven, eleven, eleven... Marty DiBergi: Oh, I see. And most amps go up to ten? Nigel Tufnel: Exactly. Marty DiBergi: Does that mean it's louder? Is that any louder? Nigel Tufnel: Well, it's one louder, isn't it? It's not ten. You see, most... most blokes, you know, will be playing at ten. You're on ten here, all the way up, all the way up, all the way up... you're on ten on your guitar. Where can you go from there? Where? Marty DiBergi: I don't know... Nigel Tufnel: ...nowhere! Exactly! What we do is if we need that extra... push over the cliff, you know what we do? Marty DiBergi: Put it up to eleven. Nigel Tufnel: ...Eleven. Exactly. One louder. Marty DiBergi: Why don't you just make ten louder, and make ten be the top... number, and make that a little louder? Nigel Tufnel: [pause, blank look and snapping chewing gum] These go to eleven. Not trying to steal your thunder; I just couldn't not post this.
  21. Blazer's point isn't that Braun is not a defensive question mark, but that Yost takes out Ryan, and not Weeks (who had what, 3 errors?!). Aside from that, Braun is the better of the two hitters (even though Weeks is red-hot right now). That's what Blazer's trying to say, if I understand correctly.
  22. Try not to miss the Cliffs of Moher, either. A tad 'touristy', but totally worth the experience. Beware the vertigo, though! http://www.cliffs-moher.com/_images/cliffs1.jpg http://www.lynotttours.com/i-cliffs.jpg
  23. Echo...GREAT work on the BP advisory. Gave me a much-needed chuckle. Let's go Crew, let's go YoGa!
  24. lcbj68 echoes my sentiments, or, rather, I echo his. Although I have to admit that jhpc12's 'best-case' would be ideal. I just can't think that hard without pulling my brain.
