  1. I don't see anyone matching that. If he accepts, it's obvious that they are going to have to move someone in that glut, that's for sure.
  2. Other teams (like Atlanta and St Louis) aren't in the same situation as the Brewers, so they have the luxury of "buying" without destroying their future. Last offseason, the Braves were trying to trade Prado and Jurrjens because they were due to start getting big raises through arbitration. The time will also be coming where they will need to go to the table with Heyward on an extension. I got a kick out of one of their writers saying that they would be in on Greinke if they could work an extension out that was closer than $15 million per and they wouldn't pay $20 million. St. Louis seems to be in a better position, but count me in as someone who wouldn't trade them Greinke unless they made an insane offer. Bottom line, I really don't think that the Brewers future is all that bleak if they could figure out a way to sign Greinke. Had the bullpen not completely wet the bed this season (let's say even three less blown games), we wouldn't even be discussing this right now because the Brewers would be right with those two teams. I think that the bullpen is fixable moving forward.
  3. Like getting hammered on your company's dime? Pretty much. Don't look at me
  4. We shouldn't let other teams' opinions change ours. We need to decide on our own whether to sell, not say "oh well St Louis thinks they can compete so so can we". Valid point, but I think that there is too much season left to think about selling considering how the team has played the past several weeks. Take a horrid pen out of the equation, and they would be right in the mix, right now. We still have like 6 teams to pass to get a wild card. Of course it's possible, Lots of flawed teams ahead of the Brewers right now many of these teams have warts (granted as do the Brewers). Once again, it's early. but are you willing to risk letting guys like KRod and Marcum walk for nothing, and Greinke walk for a couple of late first round picks on the off chance you can pass 6 teams in 2 months? To be honest, I'd give K-Rod away right now if someone wanted him. He is cooked. Trade him to one of the teams ahead of you as a Trojan Horse. Marcum has no value now, and I fear he won't going forward due to the injury. In this case, I think that no news is bad news. As I've been posting all over, I want to pull out all the stops to keep Greinke regardless of how the rest of the season shakes out.
  5. Paul, I think that you are going to be as happy when Hart is gone as I was when Suppan was released.
  6. He is what he is. He's not that bad, but he's not that good either. I will say that he's improved from the early part of the season. At that point, I couldn't figure out who he was reminding me of.... then I went into a Walgreens and they had their weather radio with the 'male' computer voice on. It came to me, that was it, very similar in their choppy delivery.
  7. Forgive me for resurrecting this ancient thread again, but seeing that we've seen largely the same phenomenon with Wolf as back when it was written, and more importantly it's worked in the past to get Wolf going, I thought that I'd give it a try again. 2012 has been on somewhat of a 2010 trajectory thus far, so hopefully Wolf can get going again and get the team over the hump.
  8. Is Kemp really doing this even though he's on the D.L. and not playing in the game? I thought that he was sitting this out with 'captain' duties, but from what I read this morning, he is in. Sounds really foolish to me.
  9. Good grief, the Cardinals are like 3 games ahead of the Brewers at this point. Have you seen their starting staff? I'd be disappointed if the Brewers weren't able to catch them down the stretch.
  10. Lots of second guessing of RR going on around here. I don't have a problem with much that he's done this year, except for one thing. He has to start getting his starting pitching further into games. There have been several games just in the past week where he's had a quick hook. Pitch counts be darned, if a guy is going good and reasonably projects to be under 110-115 pitches after the next full inning (basically if they are under 100 pitches) keep him in there with this bullpen. As far as I know, there is no rule against pulling your starter in the middle of an inning if things don't go as planned.
  11. I worry about a guy that strikes out that much at the lower levels of the minors. It tells me that he has big holes in his swing. Olt could turn out to be a stud. He could also turn out to be the next Matt LaPorta. Maybe he's somewhere in the middle and is a Russell Branyan (the good years). To me, the bottom line is that 3b is not a position of need for the Brewers now, or for the next two years. IF the Brewers are going to trade their best asset, they had better use it to shore up the two areas where they have a glaring need moving forward- pitching and shortstop. Texas has to decide how much they value a possible championship. If they want to hold onto Profar and play for the next several years, fine, but then I wouldn't give them Greinke then unless they wanted to send some serious pitching back (if you ask me, based around Feliz and I'd probably demand Holland and Grimm as well).
  12. Reggie Cleveland and Augie were beyond awful. Without looking, 1990 also stands out as a year with an absolutely horrible Brewer pen.
  13. Oswalt getting lit up again for the Rangers. Looks like they are going to have to pony up or settle for mediocrity. Additionally, the Braves are losing to the Cubbies again today. If this holds up, the Braves will be three games up on the Crew with half a season left. Considering what happened last year (both ways), should the Braves be serious buyers or the Brewers be serious sellers at this point? I say no.
  14. BTW: Apologize for bringing the jinx with Reyes, but I stand by my statements.
  15. I was thinking of how many worse losses that I've seen in 30 some years. The one at the top was the Ramirez slam of Cordero in Chicago. How ironic that ARam delivers here. Went from one of the worst games ever to one of the most memorable in one swing. I'm stoked right now!
  16. It's really cute watching people only remember the examples that support their opinion. Nevermind that 50% of the time it doesn't. I saw that one coming from a mile away, my friend. Despite what Dave Cameron and his disciples say, I say that there is something to the contract year phenomenon for some guys- cute or not. Of course if you combine the stats of all guys playing in a contract years, there will be some guys getting injured and pressing to bring things back to the norm. You need to look at the career stats of each individual case. Some guys are motivated to put up better numbers in contract years, as it was completely obvious with Reyes last season.
  17. Name me one other guy that catches that ball. K Rod is absolutely horrible, anyone that thinks that you could get more than a rack of stale hot dog buns for him in a trade is delusional.
  18. I'll be happy to 'escape' this with a tie game. K Rod looks to be pretty much toast, I can't believe that anyone would trade for him. Everyone is laying off the low junk now.
  19. "I can't believe it. Everything hit on the nose". The guy is throwing belt high mid 80's junk to MLB hitters, of course he's getting knocked around.
  20. Last year, the Brewers' pen allowed 186 runs total. As we stand right now in game 80, I believe that they are now at 145 already.
