  1. I'd bet my life Doug's not in bed. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif Laporta/Green will be the deal I'm afraid. I'd really like to keep Green. My most realistic dream deal is LaPorta/Salome/Gillespie. I just don't know if that'll do it.
  2. I couldnt agree more with this. We will rue the day that we trade LaPorta for a rental. If Melvin makes this trade he definitely needs to be replaced by Jack Z because he is mortgaging the future on a rental pitcher. Melvin needs to keep LaPorta, Gamel, Escobar, and Jeffress out of any deal for a rental. You guys realize that Green, Salome, Gillepie & Braddock (a pitcher not named Jeffress) is a much better offer than LaPorta, right? It never ceases to amaze me how undervalued Green is on this board. He is hitting the same as Gamel did last year at Brevard (roughly) at the same age, and actually can play defense. He can also play 2nd base very capably. I would much much rather give up Laporta and Cain or Gillespie than the above offer. Value-wise Green, Salome & Braddock are worth far more to me than LaPorta. Now, having said that, if it's LaPorta and Escobar I would freak. Shortstops don't grow on trees, especially guys that field like Alcides. Given the love that was shown for Escobar during Spring Training by the FO and Ned, I don't see him going. My guess (unfortunately) will be: LaPorta and Green for CC and Betancourt/Perez. I wouldn't be thrilled with losing Green, but I could live with it if we get a decent bullpen arm.
  3. Great thread. It really drives home the point that Doug really is in the driver's seat this July. Here's hoping he uses these assets wisely. I have faith that he will.
  4. Not to mention what Inman and Garrison turn into. The jury will be out on the Linebrink trade for 5 years. If Evan Frederickson becomes Jonathan Broxton from the left side, will you feel the same way? Or if Inman and Garrison aren't good?
  5. I make that last deal in a heartbeat. I like Salome and LaPorta, but Greinke is extremely talented and is having a very good year. I'd personally prefer Greinke to CC, but I really hope we get one or the other.
  6. I agree with zman. Hall has negative trade value. Rauch will not be cheap either. He is a very valuable arm. I think Bowden would counter with Weeks or Gamel for that package.
  7. Was just going to post this topic myself. I've been thinking about it for a couple of weeks, but wanted to seem him solidify his position. I think he's done that. Seems to me, he's the choice right now.
  8. Couldn't agree more with splitter's last post. Having lived through having things done the exact wrong way under Bando and Taylor (at least he hired Jack though), it sure is nice to see a front office and scouting department with an exact idea of what they want to do, and then executing their plan about as well as it can be executed. As long as Lintz signs soon, I think the execution portion of the draft gets an A+. We'll have to see how the players turn out, but the plan was nailed. Also, as a full-time lurker/rare poster, I just want to take the opportunity to thank all the people on this thread, namely Colby, Battlekow and Bambis for doing all the work for us in finding (and sometimes conducting) all of the interviews, articles, etc. I read every word on this site and am a much more informed fan because of it.
  9. My somewhat informed opinion would be: LaPorta--10-15 (maybe even a little higher) Gamel--20ish Escobar--80-100 Jeffress-50-60 Salome-around 125 Salome and Jeffress are hurt, imo, by their suspensions in that I think a lot of people (myself included) would like to see them clean for at least a year before restoring their status'. Without their problems, I would guess Jeffress would be around 30 and Salome around 80-90. On a personal note, I think Escobar would be far too low and LaPorta too high. LaPorta shows tremendous power, I just worry about his ability to get on base at the major league level. I think his average may end up in the .250 range leading to an obp of around .350. Not shabby at all, but I don't know if that makes him a top-10-type prospect. Hope I'm wrong. I also think Escobar is having the type of season I was hoping he would. That is, showing the ability to drive the ball and improving his plate discipline while making the most difficult jump in the minors at a very young age. I think he's a top 25-30 type guy, but I don't think a lot of national pundits would agree. Edit: cleaned it up.
  10. Well, mainly I just think Fielder and Hardy for Kazmir is a bad trade for the Brewers. Kazmir's small frame will be a hindrance his whole career. He's been hurt every year of his career, I believe. I think: Peavy>>>Kazmir And Fielder>Weeks (although this is pretty damn close, IMO) plus you're adding Hardy. So, I just meant I like the first deal and dislike the second.
  11. I mentioned him in the Beltre thread. I like him, but I wouldn't give up a whole lot to get him. He seems more like a quality bench player to me, as opposed to an everyday CF. I would give up a mid-level prospect to get him, assuming Clark, etc. can be dealt.
  12. Well, I don't agree at all on Figgins. The guy is so underrated it's not funny. Decent OBP, 55+ steals and can play 4 positions. Seems overrated. I'll never understand that one. Crede is overrated if anyone in this deal. One decent year, and now he's going to want $10m per. KRod is one of the 3 best closers in the game, and Santana is a good pitcher that will be cheap for 4 more years (not sure if 4 or 5). This deal stinks for Anaheim. Even if they don't keep Figgins, they should be able to get a good prospect/decent MLB player for him. Edit: to the original poster, I actually think this is a pretty good effort for a major 4 team deal...I just don't like it for Anaheim.
  13. Ummmm.........am I the only one who thinks this is horrible for Anaheim? The prospects they receive are largely garbage, so it's basically Manny & Crede for KRod, Santana, Figgins & Rivera. They get hosed, IMO. The Brewers make out extremely well, however, so great deal! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  14. I would love to see Beltre in a Brewer uni, but I don't think it's remotely realistic. And Putz, imo, is a pipe dream. The reasons that were stated as positives for Beltre are the exact reasons Seattle would want to hang onto him. Adam Jones, I believe, is 20 years old and not likely to go anywhere. You could probably get them to toss in Jeremy Reed, but the fact that they'd likely do it tells you that you probably don't want him. I think it would have to be Jenks + a top pitching prospect like Inman to get Beltre & Reed. I don't see any way they deal Putz. Here's hoping I'm wrong.
