  1. I don't see how the Brewers would've offered Cam arby, so I don't think this is relevant. Edit: shoulda read the whole thread. Sorry.
  2. I'm not necessarily opposed to Millwood if we're discussing his production as opposed to other FA pitchers, but I'd rather not go the FA route at all. Again I'd rather spend money on bats and keep the rotation as young and inexpenisve as possible for all of the reasons I've explained at length in other posts. I couldn't agree more with this........this is the way a small market team has to do it, because ptiching is just way too expensive. Hitters numbers are much more reliable year-to-year and therefore less risky. Just say no to long-term FA pitcher contracts. Like, all of them.
  3. I wouldn't mind Millwood at all. He'd be a nice two-year solution for $23M.......way better than signing an Oliver Perez-type for $50M+ for 4 years. Having said that, I wouldn't give them a prospect inside our top 10. Padilla is a no-go for me.......he stinks and he's a jerk. Hardy/Fielder could then possibly yield the starter being discussed in an earlier thread............controllable for multiple years.....a Greinke-type. Edit: Millwood would have to accrue 161 innings for his 2010 option to kick in, so if he's hurt or ineffective, it's a one year deal........so that's a plus too. Padilla's #s were slightly better last year, but Millwood's upside is much higher IMO.
  4. The way I look at it from a Milwaukee perspective is: Johnson for Hart-relatively fair straight up. Weeks for DeJesus-again, relatively fair. Greinke for Gamel and Jeffress-KC probably declines. Not to mention the fact that they already gave up DeJesus for Francouer which stinks for them. I certainly wouldn't consider DeJesus a throw-in. That's blasphemy on this board. The Braves, as you said, would have to kick someone in for KC, but I still don't see the motivation for the Royals.
  5. You'd likely have to change "Hart and Weeks" to "Hart, Weeks, Gamel, Jeffress and more" to net that package. I'd love your deal, but I think that's what the??? Would have to be for KC to bite.
  6. Well, assuming Wood signs with the Indians, this is a perfect day in my world. The 2 guys I wanted least are gone. I'd be pretty happy with Hoffman, Fuentes or Putz (depending on what is given up). As far as Morrow, if you're trying to include him with Putz, I think you're talking Prince at that point. I'd do that in a second. Morrow is awesome.
  7. I would gladly trade Hart for Soriano and possibly an A ball pitcher or 2 (Rorborough or Locke). Dunn would be the logical move at that point. The offense is better, the pitching depth is better ( IF Soriano is healthy), the defense suffers.
  8. At least the Brewers will get a 1st round pick if the Dodgers, Yankees, or Angels sign him but if the Giants get him the Brewers only receive a sandwich pick. Not sure if this was a typo, but the Brewers still get the Giants' 2nd round pick. Ideally, he'll sign with the Dodgers, which I actually think will happen.
  9. Except that Johnson had a pretty significantly better year last year at a more premium position. I realize Corey's #s suffered pretty horribly over the last month, but he wasn't really anything special before that. Slightly above average before September. I wouldn't give up anything more than Hart for Johnson (in fact I'm not even sure I'd do it, based on lack of need), but I wouldn't oppose a deal involving those 2. I just worry about giving up on Weeks too soon. Edit: He was actually better than I thought through August...........man was his September atrocious. Doesn't really change anything else in my post though.
  10. I think Hart is more valuable than Francouer though. Plays a similar RF (with a lesser arm of course), is a far better baserunner, and has a .060 better career OPS. Granted the OBP difference is only .012, but I think Corey's skill set is significantly better than Francouer's. Edit: To stay on topic, I can't think of a deal with Atlanta I'd like that they'd ever do. He'd have to be part of a bigger deal. If we could pick up some young pitching for Weeks, I'd definitely take Kelly Johnson for Corey though.
  11. Would it be benefical for the Brewers and Giants if there was a Hall for Sanchez trade? It would definitely benefit the Brewers. Hall has negative value.
  12. Agree with this completely. I wouldn't mind him on a 2 year deal, but I would hate a 4 year deal. Of course, I pretty much hate all long-term deals for any free agent pitchers.
  13. I'd take Hughes in a millisecond. Having said that, I don't think there's any chance the Yankees deal him. You can't overhype his minor league numbers. And he's 22.
  14. I would: 1. Offer Hoffman 2/12 with a ceiling of 2/15. If that's a no-go 2. Offer Fuentes 3/30 with a ceiling of 3/35. 3. Offer Wood 1/10 knowing he'd be pretty unlikely to accept. Otherwise I would use McClung if there were no trades available. I want no part of Wood on a long-term deal, nor K-Rod. Both those guys are injuries waiting to happen.
  15. That's actually what I thought too, but since people were treating it seriously, I figured I would too.
  16. I agree that it's a shame, but it's the way it's always been. It's a slippery slope. If you vote one in now, who else from the last century that was a middle reliever deserves to be in, etc etc. I feel a little differently about the HOF though. I would err on the side of fewer players and only have the all-time greats in there.
  17. Just Henderson for me. Raines was a really good player but he was not the game-changer Rickey was.
  18. No chance in my mind. The qualification in a lot of voters' eyes is whether or not the player in question was the best at his position over his career. I think we can all agree that that is not the case here. He has no "automatic" stats to get in (300 wins etc.). I'd be shocked if he got 10% of the vote let alone 75%.
  19. Interesting tidbit from MLBTR on Swisher from Michael Silverman of the Boston Herald citing a source that says "the Yankees acquisition of Swisher could be a prelude to a deal with an NL team". That doesn't necessarily mean Swisher would be involved in said deal, but it offers us Swisher-lovers some hope. I'm not too sure about his defense in CF (in fact I'm pretty skeptical), but I'd sure like to buy low on his bat.
  20. I like that idea. Of course, I'd take nothing for Hall just to get rid of his contract. I'm not completely sold on Robertson, nothing might be better.
  21. While I agree that Swisher is a pretty big risk, a guy who can play both corner outfield spots, 1B, and CF in a pinch and is a switch hitter is a pretty darn valuable commodity. I look at his contract more as a plus than a minus. He's locked up for three more years, and assuming he bounces back toward career norms (very possible, particularly considering a league switch), he screams 'bargain' to me. To lump him in with Bill Hall is ridiculous to me. Hall can certainly play a lot of postitions, but is a flat-out horrible hitter.
  22. Cruz's career BB/9 rate of roughly 5.0 and 2008 BB/9 of roughly 6.0 are hardly inspiring. His type A status also doesn't help. I love his stuff, but he's a big fat 'no' in my world as a closer. Edit: grammar
  23. I also was hoping to somehow get Swisher if Hart or Fielder were moved...............too many dominoes to fall in the right order I suppose.
  24. I had the same thought, and I wonder about Wood as well, although to a much lesser extent. If the Padres offered arby, I'd be stunned if Hoffman didn't accept. In the same vein, Wood has made it well known that he loves the Cubs, but he'd be leaving a much larger amount of money on the table. I'd sign Hoffman in a heartbeat to a 2/15 type deal, I worry that Wood would be more like 3/30 or more...........no thanks.
  25. Shields at 3/13 plus 2 very afforable options is an extremely valuable guy.............I can't see TB trading him under most circumstances.
