  1. I was thinking someone like Shelby Miller, David Bednar, Kyle Finnegan.......just another quality arm in the pen. I would assume Megill stays at closer in any case.
  2. I'd be surprised if we didn't add a reliever.
  3. I stopped after the first sentence.
  4. Im sure I've told this story, but my wife and I went to game 1 of the NLCS in 18. We both smoked at the time so I said to her in the middle of the 3rd, "Let's go smoke quick, we'll only miss the pitcher batting". The crowd notified us that I had made a poor suggestion.
  5. I'd DFA Civale before I sent Patrick down. Of course, I'd prefer neither. I'm guessing Mis will get one start and then be sent down regardless of how he does.
  6. Mostly agree with this. I think you're short-changing Quintana and Civale a little. I'm personally hoping the rotation in August will be Peralta/Woodruff/Quintana/Civale/Patrick with Henderson et al as depth.
  7. At this point, I think I'd take that.
  8. OK, so you were serious. Woof. A little bit of an overreaction.
  9. Don't like it. Would be completely fine with Rodriguez/cash, but the pick hurts as pretty much everyone has mentioned. I trust the front office though so am moving forward with an open mind.
  10. Dunn is 27 and hasn't done anything of any note in the minors. He had one good season but was pretty old for the league. I'm not exactly impressed. Hope to be wrong, but I doubt he's a major league player. Edit: And, for the record, I would have the exact same thing about McGehee in March of 2009 (and possibly did).
  11. Pretty much exactly what I was going to say. I think Durbin is more likely to succeed than Dunn.
  12. I will echo the San Francisco suggestion. Incredible experience. My sister has lived in the Bay area since the mid 80s. I've been to a couple games at Candlestick as well. I would NOT have recommended that.
  13. Well hopefully he can get back to his rookie form when he had a cool .5 WAR in 388 PA.
  14. I'm 53. Born 6 months after his broadcast career started. He was such a HUGE part of my life. I'm not sure what that says about me, but it's the truth. I woke up this morning and it hit me that I'll never hear that voice on my radio again. I'm just gutted. There's not many people that will understand that, but I know there are some here, so thanks for that.
  15. Especially if you're a giant baby.
  16. People trying to talk themselves into this being bad for the Cubs is pretty funny. He's a top 10 hitter in baseball and they can afford him.
  17. If I liked it there and they made me a fair offer, sure. Happens all the time.
  18. Still a great deal for the Cubs in my opinion. Paredes and Wesnewski are eh to me. <Edit: Paredes is better than I was giving him credit for.> Hinges on Smith. Tucker will be awesome this year if healthy, we can pretty much count on that. And it's definitely not immaterial. They have an exclusive negotiating window for a year. They may not end up signing him, but it's not nothing.
  19. Devin in New York seems like a bad idea to me. I wish him the best though.
  20. Eh. I don't really think they gave up much at all. Absolute steal for the Cubs. Tucker was on pace for 9.5 WAR last year. That's a dumb number. All of this assumes they extend him, which I can't believe they won't.
  21. If they're both healthy, there's very little chance that Williams is more valuable than Cortes. And I'd put the chances of the Brewers flipping Cortes at near zero as well. If Cortes pitches likes he did in 2022, he's going to get 9 figures from someone. Add in Durbin and this is a home run for me.
