  1. Nope, PC tv-tuner/video capture card. I have video of the whole at-bat, but it's a 40 meg AVI file.... That is sweet. I've always wanted to hook up a DVR to a computer so I could capture video like that... so far, I haven't had the money or the motivation to actually do it, but it's definitely a cool project. Hopefully Corey's parents have a VHS or Tivo of the AB, but if not I'd bet that AVI movie would be worth a few autographs http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif . ~Bill
  2. The Brewers are really LOBbying for a loss tonight. Did anyone actually think Gary Bennett would come through with a hit there? At least he worked the count and went after a strike... it's not his fault he's a terrible hitter. ~Bill
  3. It's LIMA time. http://mlb.mlb.com/images/2004/05/14/qzPTJAO7.jpg (Sorry, had to.) ~Bill
  4. Is it tripping anyone else out to see Billy Hall *not* swing at breaking pitches in the dirt. You can almost see him starting to swing and then something clicks and he tells himself "STOP... don't do that." It's just night and day compared to his previous stints in the big leagues. Very cool to see, and hopefully he can keep improving until those walk totals increase. Sweet play by Beltre... wow. EDIT: Nice, Brian... looks like somebody is having fun with Tivo http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif . Actually, I bet that is a digital photo of your TV. Am I right? ~Bill
  5. He struck-out swinging on a low curve/slider, but he hit an 0-2 pitch into the buckethead section. Would have been gone if fair, and it got a huge ovation from the crowd. ~Bill
  6. If we trade Danny Kolb, I think Matt Kinney could be a good closer. He doesn't have the velocity of Kolb, but he's got good enough stuff to get by for three hitters. If we could turn him into a good setup man or closer and flip him for prospects, I'd be ecstatic. Billy Beane did it with Koch and Isringhausen, and Kinney isn't all that different from those two. ~Bill
  7. Actually, I was always under the impression that he had average stuff at best, but got by more on saavy than stuff. He doesn't throw all that hard (90-92). Actually, I thought he'd showed a good curve recently, and I don't think we ever saw one tonight. Well, his stuff isn't *that* good or he wouldn't have bounced around the minor leagues. He has a very live fastball and a plus splitter, but he's always struggled with his control. I don't think "saavy" is a good descriptor of him, as that seems more like how I would describe Ishii. Most guys who throw 90+ with a good splitter aren't "saavy". Regardless, it's not important... Santos is the exact opposite of a control pitcher. In other news, it's nice to see our resident utility man with two doubles tonight. Great to see Corey get a big ovation, too, and he very nearly went yard there. Tough to only get one AB during your callup, but we'll be seeing him again I'm sure. ~Bill
  8. Bill Schroeder just said that "walking batters is something you don't normally see from Santos" because "he relies on control". Are you kidding me? Does Bill Schroeder even pay attention at all? Santos' biggest problem is his control... he relies on good stuff, especially his splitter, and has always been plagued by high walk totals. There is absolutely no question that what Bill Schroeder just stated as fact is TOTALLY AND COMPLETELY FALSE. Not just kind of false, but 180 degrees from the truth. And it's not a small mistake... he described one of the Brewers' starters in a manner that is completely contrary to reality. And now fans at home, who don't happen to know better, will think that Santos is a control pitcher. I don't get it. That kind of blatent disregard for reality would get most people fired. ~Bill
  9. Does this qualify as a Wilhelmsoning? ~Bill
  10. Un-freaking-believable. After Ishii walks THREE CONSECUTIVE BATTERS to load the bases with no outs, the next three Brewers ALL SWING AT THE FIRST PITCH. Granted, Overbay's resulted in a sac fly... but what's wrong with making Ishii throw even more pitches and maybe walk in another run? Where's the patience we are always talking about? That is like example 1 of why it's important to have some discipline at the plate. They all get demerits. Bad. ~Bill
  11. There's been a Matt Kinney sighting. I thought that guy was dead. ~Bill
  12. Nice to see Gary Bennett's veteran leadership there, unnecessarily flinging one into the outfield. This could get ugly fast. ~Bill
  13. Clark should never, ever play. I don't know about that, but why does he have to bat sixth? When Grieve plays, the RF bats seventh (probably to split up the left-handers a bit). When the 6/7 decision was between Helms and Clark, I still would have rather seen Helms bat sixth. But between Ginter and Clark? Why can't Clark bat seventh just like Grieve? I wonder if Nedley even has a reason. And I realize it doesn't matter all that much, but it's one of the little things that he could do to improve the club's chances (even that tiny bit). ~Bill
  14. Today's lineups are brought to you by Corey Hart, who hopefully is enjoying his time on the Brewers' bench. LOS ANGELES MILWAUKEE AVG HR RBI AVG HR RBI Cesar Izturis SS .290 2 13 Scott Podsednik CF .264 4 14 Shawn Green 1B .225 7 19 Bill Hall SS .296 4 20 Milton Bradley CF .268 6 21 Junior Spivey 2B .270 3 17 Adrian Beltre 3B .331 11 31 Geoff Jenkins LF .262 4 24 Paul Lo Duca C .351 1 15 Lyle Overbay 1B .363 6 39 Juan Encarnacion RF .237 5 22 Brady Clark RF .224 3 12 Jason Grabowski LF .258 4 8 Keith Ginter 3B .259 7 16 Alex Cora 2B .295 3 13 Gary Bennett C .246 1 6 Kazuhisa Ishii LHP .118 0 2 Victor Santos RHP .000 0 0 (5-3, 3.88) (2-0, 3.12) Nice work getting Hall, Spivey, and Ginter all into the lineup at once, but Nedley's obsession with keeping the positional order the same is irritating. Why isn't Ginter batting second and hall sixth with Clark seventh? Or Spivey, then Ginter? Or Spivey, then Hall? Or Ginter, then Hall? Why do you put a power hitter with a low OBP as your #2 hitter? ~Bill
  15. This isn't Brewers-related, but I didn't want to start a new thread... Kyle Peterson is broadcasting the Red Sox/A's game on ESPN2. It's Hudson versus Schilling at Fenway, and it should be a dandy. I really enjoy Peterson's commentating... maybe the Brewers can sign him back as a TV prospect... TINSTAAPP, but TISATAATVP. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif ~Bill
  16. Robert Portnoy called it a "season-defining win" and was obviously very excited. He also mentioned after Prince's rocket double to center leading off the ninth that he feels the big guy is back and is starting to tear the cover off the ball again. Weeks was a late scratch, still bothered by that foot injury, but he came up with a big pinch-hit walk. Brad Nelson is still raking, and it's great to see. EDIT: Also, Gwynn has been having some fantastic at-bats and Shelley pitched really well after struggling his first time out. His split-change, which baffled hitters last season, was described as filthy and hopefully he can build on this outing. Great win! ~Bill
  17. 05/25/2004 - Brewers (Santos) vs. Dodgers (Ishii) After a rain-soaked road trip, the Brewers are back home at the friendly confines of Miller Park enjoying its lovely retractable roof. Victor Santos gets the ball tonight against Kaz Ishii, who despite posting a horrible K:BB ratio has been an effective pitcher this year. According to BP, his Value Over Replacement Pitcher (VORP) is 8.7 compared with Santos' 7.4, but that doesn't account for playing time. Using adjusted runs allowed, which compares a pitcher's runs allowed (both earned and unearned) to the park-adjusted league average, Santos bests Ishii with a 151 versus 106. It will be interesting to see how Nedley designs tonight's lineups against the left-hander, especially considering the club is facing another southpaw on Wednesday. Game time is 7:05 CDT and there are plenty of good seats available. 18. Stars win... four in the ninth to win. Ozzie Chavez with a big walk off single. ~Bill
  19. Barnwell just tied up the Huntsville game with a one-out, three-run homer in the ninth. This has been a heck of an exciting game. ~Bill
  20. High Desert is getting close to catching Rancho for not-last-place. That would be awesome, and is a testament to the job a lot of "low profile" prospects are doing for the Mavs. Great to see Manny on the mound, too... he da' man. ~Bill
  21. That was awesome, and I think we really needed this win going into the Dodgers/Padres x 2 + Anaheim stretch. Tough for Doug Davis not to pick up the win but any win at PNC is a-okay with me. ~Bill
  22. Not too shabby for a utility player. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/laugh.gif ~Bill
  23. Craig Wilson is really, really good. Seriously. ~Bill
  24. Random thoughts about the last few innings: Corey Hart lacks veteranness. Who's the best pitcher? Mike Adams, Matt Wise, or Jeff Bennett? Why doesn't Kip Wells have more success? He has filthy stuff. Craig Counsell has made some silly mistakes the last few games. The ninth inning blunder last night and swinging at the first pitch after a pair of walks today highlight the list. Junior Spivey's bat speed is quite a bit slower than usual. I hope it doesn't take him too long to get back on track after the long layoff. Chad Moeller looks a lot better at the plate lately. I'd love to see him usurp one of Bennett's starts so the division is 4:1 instead of 3:2. Doug Davis continues to impress. That's all for now... do discuss. ~Bill
  25. Bill Schroeder said that he talked to Nedley and the third-base position is not Keith Ginter's. Rather, the trio of Ginter, Billy Hall, and Trent Durrington will share the starting duties. I know Keith isn't exactly "hot" right now, but this is ridiculous. What does Ned have against him? I'm all for getting BH some more time, but Trent Durrington? And why is Craig Counsell's job so firmly entrenched that Billy can't get a start twice a week? Ridiculous. All you Ginter haters, please proceed with the "he's just a utility guy" comments. ~Bill
