  1. 'Cause he's bad at defense. I gotta think that the move was a little premature tonight, 'cause Grieve is a lot better hitter and we need(ed) runs. If Grieve's defense is good enough for the first six innings, isn't it good enough for the seventh? It's one thing to swap him out when you've got a lead to protect, but when you're down by 4 (at the time) you've gotta stick with the better bat. EDIT: This was in response to endaround, not MassBrew, who posted the same thought at the same time. He used a slightly different accent, though http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif . ~Bill
  2. Matt Wise is awesome. I'd love to see him work through an order two or three times... he used to be a starter, and apparently his stuff is back. Thoughts? ~Bill
  3. Ben Grieve sucks. No, he doesn't. That was a tough play, and he certainly should have caught it, but he doesn't suck. ~Bill
  4. Actually, Capuano pitched for Indianapolis... not sure if De La Rosa also did, but Caps allowed something like 7 earned runs in three innings. Bob Brainerd provided the update, so take it with a grain of salt. ~Bill
  5. Alfonseca, by a finger. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif ~Bill
  6. Wonder if the crack Drew and Tom tag-team will actually ask about Nedley being asleep at the wheel in the 9th. Well, Frank Clines got the call tonight for the Journal Sentinel as apparently both Drew and Tom were otherwise occupied. No mention at all of the lack of pinch-hitting moves in the ninth; the best he could do was this little rundown: Adam McCalvy's column isn't up yet, so hopefully he took the time to ask Yost what he was thinking. EDIT: McCalvy with nothing as well. How disappointing is that? How can they *not* ask about the ninth inning management decisions, or at least mention them? Jeez. ~Bill
  7. How can the summary say Ty Taubenheim "slammed the door"? He barely held on is what happened... C'mon, MassBrew... give the kid a break. 1 IP, 3 H, 3 ER That looks like a door slamming to me... http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif ~Bill
  8. Helms just missed two sliders by a combined 12 feet. Beautiful. ~Bill
  9. I'll make it four posts in a row... Is Nedley asleep? ~Bill
  10. Where for art thou, Ben Grieve? Ibid. with Helms batting. And Counsell is 5-for-11 against Smoltz, apparently. ~Bill
  11. Surprised Clark is hitting here? I definitely thought Grieve would get an AB. ~Bill
  12. So has Santos pitched his way into the rotation? I think so. At this point, he should probably keep his spot when Capuano comes back and Obermueller should be sent to the bullpen. ~Bill
  13. Infield single for Eddie Perez? That's fitting tonight, I guess. ~Bill
  14. Smoltz hasn't been invincible, so they've still got a chance in the ninth. It would be nice to see Counsell, Grieve, and Kieschnick get chances against him... Clark, Helms, and Moeller are due up, so I'd guess at least one or two of the above get pinch-hit opportunities. And what's up with Jeff Bennett pitching in close games again? How many times does he have to fail in these situations to pitch his way out of the role? ~Bill
  15. JD Drew is apparently a good hitter too. Argh. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif ~Bill
  16. Double argh. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif ~Bill
  17. 33,000 tonight, with a record walkup crowd of about 11,000. Fantastic. ~Bill
  18. JD Drew is a good outfielder... I thought there was no way he'd get to that ball. Nice hit by Hall, but them's the breaks. So who do you bring on in relief? Vizco? ~Bill
  19. Victor Santos: Putting the Victor In Victory. 7 Innings, 5 Hits, 0 Runs, 2 Walks, 6 Strikeouts, 104 pitches, 62 strikes. Me likey. ~Bill
  20. Wow. 'At a boy, Ginter and Santos.... Overbay pulled a Bill Buckner, but no problem. Nice. ~Bill
  21. Wow. Wes Helms was a bit too generous in his souvenir giving, there. Yikes. I hope that didn't kill anyone. ~Bill
  22. It wasn't very nice of Chad Moeller to steal Pudge's arm like that. I know it's for the betterment of the Brewers... but to just rip off a guy's arm? That's kind of extreme. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif ~Bill
  23. Bob Brainerd is not only an incompetent, annoying boob... but he also has zero interviewing skills. Where did they find this guy? Why can't Craig Coshun do the sideline reporting again? EDIT: A quick google search reveals that Bob Brainerd worked at Watts Communication doing some work on the TMJ4 Preps Plus show. Here's his bio, thanks to the wonders of the Internet Archive's Wayback Machine: Apparently he has some experience, but the dude is annoying and not good at his job. I didn't have a problem with Coshun, and he does an acceptable job on the pre-game show. Why don't they give Bill Michaels an audition? Or anyone else for that matter... they can't be worse than Brainerd. ~Bill
