  1. So has anyone been more uncomfortable standing in a batter's box than Santos? 1> El Duquecito, right-handed. 2> El Duquecito, left-handed. ~Bill

  3. Santos looks great in that uni... definitely. I'm way too young to have seen the Braves play in Milwaukee, but their threads were ahead of their time. Good stuff. ~Bill
  4. They've got the numbers on the front, no name on the back, and that screaming Indian guy on the left sleeve. Otherwise, I think they are identical to the Braves' current home uniforms. Pretty weird to watch. And for those of us in the Milwaukee area, the TBS broadcast is blacked out. I was looking forward to watching it, but I guess Daron and Bill will have to do. EDIT: I almost forgot... those socks are AWESOME. ~Bill

  6. 05/14/2004 - Brewers (Santos) vs. Braves (Ramirez) Ned Yost takes on his mentor, Bobby Cox, on "Milwaukee Braves Night" at Miller Park. Lots of great stuff going on, and thanks to the roof there is no chance of a rainout despite the lousy weather. Reduced ticket prices, $1 hot dogs and sodas, and lots of free autographs... how can you go wrong? The Daily Brew Series Preview: www.brewerfan.net/ViewDai...portId=217 ESPN/Sports Ticker Series Preview: sports.espn.go.com/mlb/pr...=240514108 CBS Sportsline Series Preview: cbs.sportsline.com/mlb/ga...14_ATL@MIL Horacio Ramirez takes on Victor Santos, so we'll have to see how Nedley configures the lineup against the southpaw. Go Brewers! ~Bill
  7. JP had Doug Melvin on his pre-game show a few days ago and they talked about Adams and Bausher being "stretched out"... I didn't get to listen to the interview (it's archived online, so I'll do that soon), but JP talked about it later during the broadcast and said that they weren't converting Bausher and Adams to starters. Rather, they want them to work through the order a few times so they develop secondary and tertiary pitches. Both are still relief prospects in his mind, and this is just a way to make them better once they get to the bigs. ~Bill
  8. Sorry, but I have to do this everytime DD gets a start... Captain's orders. Doug Davis is an average Major League starting pitcher. Doug pitches ugly, but the results are... well... average. If the Brewers had five average Major League starting pitchers, we'd be very happy. ~Bill
  9. Cool -- and here I was thinking that this was the first game all year that I would not be able to "see" a game, either live or archived. And I normally do the Bob & Jim audio as well, so my normal routine -- sweet! I hate you MassBrew. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif Downtrodden Milwaukeean, ~Bill
  10. Jeff Housman stole Jamie Moyer's mojo. ~Bill
  11. What year is it again? 2003? Poor Mavs' fans... or are there any left? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/eyes.gif ~Bill
  12. Brooks has hit .091/.091/.364 vs. LHP over the last 2 years... Pretty hard to criticise that decision. True... if I took issue with the decision, it would be because I would have liked to see Brooks stay in the game to pitch the next inning. Since Vizco took care of bizness, it proved to be a good decision. ~Bill
  13. Nedley wanted the right-handed hitting Durrington to face the left-hander. Not sure if I agree with that, but he apparently thinks that's a better matchup than Kieschnick facing a southpaw. ~Bill
  14. If you're using EzCode, paste the lineups between and . There are other ways to do it, but that's pretty easy. ~Bill
  15. Talk about a tough night for Ginter... oh-for-7, four strikeouts, and an error. That guy sucks... he's a bench player. ~Bill

  17. Before the game they said that if Hardy doesn't have surgry 4 to 6 weeks minimum. I guess he torn his labrum. I may be wrong cuz I didn't write it down but i am pretty sure that is what they said. That sucks. That's all there is to it. ~Bill
  18. Livan Hernandez is a freak. He's one of the most abused pitchers in recent memory, and he's not in very good shape, and yet he continues to pitch a ton of innings and pitch them very well. He's 2-2 with a 2.94 ERA in 7 outings this year, 6 of which were quality starts. He's 6-3 with a 3.51 ERA in 13 career games against Milwaukee, and 1-0 with a 3.86 ERA in his only start at Miller Park. His last start was a complete game win against Colorado in which he allowed only 1 run on 5 hits while striking out 7. Dude is a veritable beast. ~Bill
  19. Nobody said they should play Counsell just because he's a better 2nd hitter than Hall... they said Counsell is batting second for a reason. Give the lineup that is being put on the field on a daily basis Counsell is not a bad choice for #2. He does a good job of putting Pods into scoring position so Spivey/Jenkins/Overbay can drive him in. Right, but if other players can fill that #2 "get Pods over" role, and Billy Hall can contribute skills that aren't available from another player, then what do you do? You play Hall. He adds substantially more power to the lineup, a skill that Counsell doesn't contribute... It's not a tradeoff. If Counsell plays, we have a good #2 hitter, but if Hall plays we have a good #2 hitter (Spivey or Ginter, probably) and a good power bat at the bottom of the order (Hall). And this is discarding the whole "Hall has a future, Craig is an aging vet" issue. I won't get into that, as others have done a fine job. ~Bill
  20. Just because Counsell is a better #2 hitter doesn't mean he should play over Hall. I know this will come as a shock to Ned Yost, but the shortstop doesn't have to bat second. How's this for a lineup? Scott Podsednik, CF Keith Ginter, 3B Lyle Overbay, 1B Geoff Jenkins, LF Junior Spivey, 2B Ben Grieve, RF Billy Hall, SS Chad Moeller, C Here's another one: Scott Podsednik, CF Junior Spivey, 2B Lyle Overbay, 1B Geoff Jenkins, LF Keith Ginter, 3B Ben Grieve, RF Billy Hall, SS Chad Moeller, C Grieve could hit second, too. It doesn't really matter. As long as all the lefties aren't bunched together and the "good" hitters are at the top, it won't make much of a difference. Building a better batting order shouldn't be a motivation for elevating the playing time of inferior players. And I'm not arguing (here) that Hall is better than Counsell.... this goes both ways. But the argument that "Hall is a bad #2 hitter" is NOT a reason to play Counsell. ~Bill
  21. Craig Counsell is drawing a lot of walks, but his on-base average is still only .330. That's actually pretty good, as the average NL shortstop's OBA is .309, but Craig's slugging average is a Neifi-like .294 (compared to .373 for NL SS). He'd be a good enough #2 hitter if he hit a little more and continued to take so many walks, but it's not like he's so much better suited to that position in the order than Hall. And more importantly, Nedley doesn't have to keep Hall in Counsell's spot when he plays... a lineup of Podsednik, Ginter, Overbay, Jenkins, Hall, Grieve, Moeller, and Helms would be nice. ~Bill
