  1. That was a monumentally sweet bunt. I don't agree with the call, but it worked. Not pretty, but I'll take it! EDIT: Just to explain why I don't agree with the bunt call, we didn't have anyone left on the bench except Bennett (who hits like a pitcher, and probably wouldn't have been used anyway). I'd rather have Ginter and Moeller each get shots to drive in the run than Moeller and Kinney. ~Bill

  3. What is up with all these steals and hit and runs? I know we're struggling to score, but this whole "make things happen, yo!" mentality is costing us baserunners like crazy. Jenkins can't steal bases. Period. ~Bill

  5. Final: Beloit 4, Kane County (Athletics) 1 Dana Eveland went 6 scoreless innings allowing only 3 hits and 1 walk to go against 6 punchouts. Tim Dillard added two scoreless frames, but Ty Taubenheim had another rough outing in the ninth. Still, a great job by the Snappers' pitchers to keep the walk-happy Cougars off the basepaths. No extra-base hits for the Snappers, but they did draw four walks. Incredibly, they racked up 11 singles including 2 apiece for Guilder Rodriguez, Terry Trofholz, Steve Moss, and Josh Murray. ManRam, Jr. also added a pair of steals. Good win! 6. Here's the latest on De La Rosa, as per Adam McCalvy's latest Notes column at MLB.com: The emphasized portion above is disturbing. If he's had a sore shoulder, why has he been pitching? Is Nichols serious? If De La Rosa didn't reveal that he was having trouble, then that's one thing. But if he complained of shoulder soreness and was ignored or otherwise told to tough it out... well, let's just say I wouldn't be real happy with the Brewers. Thoughts? ~Bill
  7. Geoff Jenkins sucks. Release him. (Hope this works). ~Bill
  8. Final: Pawtucket (Red Sox) 7, Indianapolis 4 Looks like MassBrew took in a loss. He got to see Paul Stewart's Indy debut... but it wasn't so good. Nice start for Matt Childers and a three-hit day for Liefer, who also smacked his eleventh round-tripper of the season. 9. I'm trying to get into the excitement of the new Huntsville scoreboard, but, eh, well, anyway, for those who want to rejoice with the Alabama locals -- the Sergio Garcia line is funny, at least... LOL... I've been thinking the same thing. Listening to the broadcasts and reading the various game reports, this scoreboard changeover has been Huntsville's equivalent to the building of Miller Park. I'd love to see a picture once it's up, and I'm sure I will, but how can it not be disappointing? At this point, I'm expecting a three-mile wide high-def screen with simultaneous feeds of every baseball game on the planet. It's cool that folks are excited, though... I don't mean to ridicule - I would be stoked if the Snappers got something that cool, too. Just kind of funny to be a "fan from afar" and hear so much about something only the locals really understand. ~Bill
  10. Wonderful. Who's next? Sheets? Hopefully this is a non-arm injury, preferably something like a broken toe or athlete's foot or whatever. If I read "shoulder soreness" or "tender elbow" again, I might vomit. ~Bill
  11. Here's something else I gotta get off my chest... I'm sure this comes from Bobby Cox, but why does Nedley refuse to *ever* use his second catcher as a pinch-hitter? One of the biggest reasons Trent Durrington made the team, at least if you believe Nedley, was because of his ability to fill in at every position *including catcher*. So in an emergency, he can spend a few innings behind the plate. Moreover, Keith Ginter is also capable of catching in an emergency. That means we have four catchers, two of whom are kinda like third string quarterbacks... you wouldn't want to have to use them, but they're there if you need them. So then, what is the risk of using Moeller off the bench as a pinch-hitter in games that Bennett catches? How many times have even one of our catchers been hurt this year? Zero. And I can't remember it happening last year, either... although Eddie Perez might have had to leave a game because he caught a foul tip, but my memory is foggy and I can't think of a way to verify my hunch. It is probably a very miniscule risk, regardless, and it's not like we'd have to use Matt Kinney at catcher if the unthinkable happened. Nedley doesn't need to do it all the time, or even that often, but he should at least consider the Moeller-for-Bennett move as part of his managerial repertoire. Chad isn't exactly smoking the ball, but he's head and shoulders above Bennett as a hitter. In a late inning, game-on-the-line situation, who would you rather have get an AB? Moeller or Bennett? And taken a step further, why not use *any* pinch hitter in these situations? Bat Grieve for Bennett and then bring Moeller in to play defense. Give Kieschnick a shot. Let Billy Hall bat. Or Counsell. Or anyone but Gary Bennett. It's not exactly a revolutionary concept, but it seems beyond Nedley's grasp. Thoughts? ~Bill
  12. I'm this close to just returning to audio only -- I don't know how you guys deal with that whole TV package. Top to bottom, soup to nuts, it's awful, just awful. I've gone back and forth, and sometimes I still just listen. The radio and TV don't matchup for us in Milwaukee, so that becomes almost impossible to endure. We have to weigh the enjoyment we get from Uecker and JP against the need to /see/ the game. I guess it's just part of the larger suffering we endure as Brewers' fans. And "soup to nuts" is fantastic... I'm going to have to use that http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif . ~Bill
  13. Here's what I wrote at 6:51PM, before tonight's first pitch: I realize it doesn't matter all that much, but it's one of the little things that he could do to improve the club's chances (even that tiny bit). Would things have been different had he batted Ginter before Clark? I'm not saying, but I'm just saying. ~Bill
  14. Paul Lo Duca can be a jerk sometimes, but he's genuinely passionate about baseball. Very respectful in the interview with Brainerd, despite Bob's rambling questions, and he wasn't a cliche spouter in his responses. I gotta respect that... he doesn't have to give an interview to the opposing TV broadcast, and he doesn't have call the Brewers a tough ballclub. Refreshing after a ripping-the-hair-out-at-the-roots game. Kudos, Paul! ~Bill
  15. Jeebus that guy is good. You can't really feel bad about going down 1-2-3... he's just amazing. It never should have gotten to him, though... lots and lots of wasted opportunities and stupid managerial decisions. Color me disappointed. ~Bill
  16. Two infield singles, though. And Clark is 2-for-6 trying to steal this year. Pathetic. EDIT: And yeah, that was before tonight. Two-for-seven now. ~Bill
  17. That is a terrible call. Terrible. I'm perturbed. EDIT: Ok, I lied. He got it right. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif ~Bill
  18. Ok, well it's gonna be Gagne time in about a minute...anyone willing to predict his streak will end??? Kieschnick and Ginter are the two best fastball hitters we have, but with a two-run lead (and maybe more) I can't say I'm optimistic. And even though Gagne throws amazingly quick, the reason he's so good is his ability to change speeds. And unfortunately, the aforementioned duo aren't so good when that happens. ~Bill
  19. I'd pay to see Kieschnick face Gagne. Wise just has to shut things down here, and hopefully Kiesch will get a chance. ~Bill
  20. I'm curious... does Nedley ride a special bus to the games that happens to be a bit shorter than normal? Sorry... that was offensive and insensitive. And discouragingly true. ~Bill
  21. Though in is defense, he looked in, which means hit and run and Ginter took the pitch. Just because he looked in doesn't mean it was a hit and run. And I really hope it wasn't, 'cause that's a ludicrous call in that situation. Stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid. ~Bill
  22. What the heck is he running for? I gotta end this now, 'cause this is a family site. ~Bill
  23. WOW... Thurston is fast. ~Bill
  24. Some remainders: Billy Hall with a great play and Junior with a timely hit. Lima Time and Burba Time in the same game? Crazy. 4-3 in the seventh... I feel a Buckethead comeback brewing tonight. Burba just fell down like a donkey that was shot in the back. That was kind of funny, and yet disturbing at the same time. I forgot to mention this before, but did anyone else catch the "Jenkin's Junction" thing. That seems like a pretty lame spinoff of Vaughn's Valley, but at least it's something. Why do those things always have to start with the same letter, anyway? ~Bill
