  1. Nope, although I did hit left-handed. I just remember how hard they are to hit and therefore have a special affinity for them http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/happy.gif. EDIT: High Desert just got squeezed! Rosario (not sure who that is) got a bunt down on a suicide squeeze on a pitch that was at his head. The Mavs are down 7-4 now, unfortunately, but that's the first suicide squeeze I've heard or seen at any level this year. Pretty cool. See what you miss when you don't tune in to Lindskog/High Desert? Frontrunners. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/happy.gif EDIT AGAIN: That does it, Mavs lose to Visalia. Same teams tomorrow with a 1/2 hour earlier-than-normal start. ~Bill
  2. Frost has indeed been a nice surprise. He came in hitting .367 / .406 / .533 with a home run. Not enough walks, though, and his numbers last year and at Helena this year were pretty dismal. Hopefully the 23-year old is finding his comfort zone with the wood bat and the hot hitting will continue. Visalia's Dan Phillips just hit his 15th off of Bobby Bystrowski, however, to put the Oaks up 6-4. That guy is not so good... seems like a real character but he's ruined a couple of games I've tuned in to . ~Bill
  3. Great start by Luis... a few too many walks, but you can't argue with seven innings and two-hits. Parra, Ford, and Martinez sure make for a happy Brewer fan. ~Bill
  4. Re: Arizona Do you even have to pay to get into these games? I wonder how much they charge... 50 cents might be pushing it. I bet the beer's cheep, though. But at 10 in the morning, it might be a little early for that http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/happy.gif. It would be cool to get a radio stream, but somehow I think that's a little out of the budget when your big draw is 9 people. Oh well... Helena is almost as good . ~Bill

  6. If I had a daughter, I probably would have kissed her goodnight, too. Your tardiness is forgiven http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/happy.gif. It'll be interesting to see if he makes his way to Milwaukee in short order... with Nance struggling and Foster back down again, they might want to give another lefty a chance. Melvin must have a pager that alerts him to any release of a former-Ranger. The guy's automatic. ~Bill
  7. According to the Stars' broadcast, the Brewers signed LHP Doug Davis yesterday and sent him to Huntsville. He'll pitch tomorrow night and probably will be moved up to Indianapolis thereafter. Davis was designated for assignment by the Blue Jays, where he had made 12 starts, but he refused and became a free agent. This isn't exactly high-profile, but Davis looks like a great pickup. He's 27 and is another product of the Texas system. His ESPN profile is here.
  8. What's up with the camera angles that don't show the ball, only the player watching it? And how about the train wreck that is a Berman broadcast? If he interrupts Giambi or ARod again, I might have to turn off the sound. On a brighter note, Garret is smoking some beauties deep to right. Jeez. ~Bill
  9. That was the Ataris doing their "Boys of Summer" cover. Good stuff. I think it would be cool if they let them play while the guys are hitting... the kids would dig it and the music would drown out Berman. Was all that editorial commentary really necessary? He was supposed to be doing the intros, not a standup comedy routine. Anyway, this should be fun to watch. The bad thing about Comiskey is that there's not really any architectural features... like scoreboard and Bernie's Dugout at Miller Park, the Green Monster at Fenway, the upper decks at Skydome/Three Rivers, etc. I've got Giambi over Sexson in the finals. ~Bill
  10. Only if we're talking about the International League. ~Bill

  12. I'd like to see Ben not throw 120 pitches. In fact, it would be just dandy if he only needed 85 or 90 to get through 7 innings. He's a horse, but I'm afraid that Yost has been pushing the pitch count up a bit too much. It's not Dusty Baker bad, but it's troubling. Just wanted to mention that... Al's got a good post on his blog with a link to Baseball Crank.... worth checking out. Edit: One more thing... my concern is that the woeful performances by our 4/5 starters will prompt Yost to attempt to use Sheets as a bullpen-saver. He's been consistently throwing 100-110 pitches as it is and so we've got to keep an eye on it... and because he never misses a start, those pitches add up quick. He also rarely has very poor outings and so he doesn't get the 50-75 pitch outings that other (less-good) pitchers get once and a while. Food for thought, anyway. ~Bill
  13. Hopefully Steve Moss will be back by then and he would be a good candidate for the "not in double-A" slot. ~Bill
  14. "Hale-frickin-luya" says Mike Lindskog. The Mavs finally broke through for a win... very exciting game. Tony Stavros hurt his left foot/ankle but they beat Inland Empire 7-6. Hopefully Tony is alright. Stavros got the win (2-2) and Justin Backsmeyer got his third save of the season. Jeremy Frost got the game-winning RBI, scoring Nelly from second. Good night for Belcher and Nelson. I'm sure MassBrew will be back in the morning with the box score/recap. Three hours and one minute of fantastic baseball. Tomorrow night the Quakes head to High Desert... they were down 20-0 tonight after four innings so they'll probably be raring to go. G'night! ~Bill
  15. Manny Ramirez. I hate the name, but I love the numbers... Does anyone know if he is still a catcher? Or is the move to first-base a result of him being not-so-good behind the plate? Those numbers are gorgeous, though. Even though I love Pedro Espy-goza, get that kid to Beloit! ~Bill PS: That bobblehead doll is sweet. Not worth a plane ticket to Cali, but close http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/happy.gif.
  16. I was stuck in a meeting this afternoon and so I only got to listen to part of the game. Let me say this, though: FREE GINTER. That's all, ~Bill
  17. And Lemon played more than fifty years ago. That's what makes this so incredible... in today's specialized game when even utility players have assigned roles, it is refreshing to see a guy who can just flat-out play baseball. Interesting stuff, no doubt... and while Brooks won't be a HOFer, he's awfully fun to watch. ~Bill
  18. Brooks Kieschnick is amazing. He's not the best hitter and he's not the best pitcher, but the fact that he can do both is incredible. Tonight's game is the type that really showcases his utility as a two-way player. And is there a more exciting player on the Brewers? I don't think so. Gotta love the toolshed, ~Bill
  19. I don't like these '78 uni's... they need belts and they need to ditch the V-neck. I also like it better with the piping on the end of the sleeves and the numbers on the back need to be increased in size (at least for Richie). Otherwise, I dig them more than I dig the current uni's. The Pirates are okay, but that yellow is a little much... It looks good (or at least okay) on some of the guys, but others just look like giant bumblebees. ~Bill
  20. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> your an idiot if you think that Dejean is not taht bad look who he gave up the homer to ahh last 4 outing 3 blow saves and losses what keep throwing him o ut there to bring down the team again >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Your mastery of the English language astounds me. DeJean is obviously struggling but everyone goes through rough spells... he hasn't gotten enough work, he's pitching entirely in high-pressure situations, and he has given up some big hits. And really, what do you propose we do? Release him? So maybe we win 65 games instead of 70... yeah, that sucks, but is it worth giving up on DeJean to get those additional wins? I don't think so. And as for the "last four outings" comment, I can find a heck of a lot more 4 (or more) game stretches wherein he accumulated saves or scoreless innings. Yes, he has struggled lately... and he hasn't been on his game all year, most likely. But we're still only through 1/2 a season... keep that in mind. And try capitalizing, punctuating, and spell-checking your posts, please. They are difficult to read. ~Bill PS: Estrella hasn't started a game since 1999. I don't think moving our most successful reliever to the rotation is a very good idea.
  21. This has got to be one of the most exciting games the Crew has played all season. Not even close to the best, but it's pretty darn exciting. I find it odd that DeJean was brought in for the tenth and troubling that he struggled again. Hopefully that was just a bump in the road, and his previous outing is more indicative of his ability. Podsednik got a nice plug on Baseball Tonight... they didn't really talk about him, but rather how speedy players sometimes develop later. Bobby V also asked Gammons if a trade for Sexson was possible and Gammons said yes. Just FYI. ~Bill
  22. That really sucks for Moss. I hope he comes back 100% and is able to catch up with the rest of the Beloit gang. Do you know what the surgery/injury is? Phil Nevin dislocated his shoulder in the Spring and had season-ending surgery. Jeter and Griffey both got back pretty quickly. Not sure what the difference between their injuries is/was... hope Moss' is the latter. ~Bill EDIT: Well, it turns out that Nevin is slated to come back in late July/early August. Hopefully Moss' recovery is at least that quick...
  23. He slid into home to score a run in the first. In the process, Kendall's tag smashed his helmet into his face and he cut open his right cheek (right below his eye). He had to get stitches and is day-to-day - he's on the bench, all patched up. ~Bill
  24. Some series previewage over at Do The Brew if you're interested. Did you know that Aaron Cook has actually been significantly better at home than he has on the road? You do now. Happy 4th, everybody! ~Bill
  25. MassBrew, which one of the Beloit starters is most likely to be promoted? Am I correct in assuming that a promotion seems imminent? Just curious, ~Bill
