  1. wow. clearly they don't do enough drug testing on NBC executives. maybe they'll handle it like Conan; wait until that new show bombs, then try to put Parks&Rec back in its timeslot again. so i guess this is the beginning of the end for Parks. $5 says it doesn't make it past the third season, but i hope i'm wrong.
  2. doesn't matter--everyone knows Holly is suddenly going to walk back into his life for the series finale, anyway.
  3. i'm not a soccer fan by any stretch, but there's something so different about the World Cup. Each time I end up glued to the tv to root for the USA. maybe it's because no other sporting event quite captures the country vs. country sportsmanship, even more than the Olympics does. and then just like every Olympic sport, i get all into it for a month and then go back to not caring at all for another four years. unfortunately this time around, i'm going to completely miss every single game and won't be able to get even updates.
  4. is asking for David Price too much? he'd fit the bill as someone cheap with ML experience.
  5. i haven't gotten emails from bf at all, but i'm getting them in Political Scene, even though the "subscribe" box isn't checked.
  6. i'd take Ned. Ned's decisions ruin individual games, where I see Macha's irresponsible use of the bullpen and handling of younger players as season-killers. anybody see Macha as the next guy to go? and then what about Sveum? it seems clear that MA doesn't want an internal candidate for the manager's job, and so be it, but do you offer the interim manager job to Sveum again? and would it be a personal insult if Sveum wasn't offered the interim job?
  7. i like Ned on the Royals. he's a great rah-rah manager to boost the confidence and emotions of a struggling team. he's not the numbers guy for a potential division-winner, but he's ideal to manage the Royals. i think he'll do well there.
  8. Once he is on the 40 man roster he could be like Lincecum and get high everyday and not have to worry about it guess i'm not as familiar with the drug rules. i thought Jeffress just couldn't get caught one more time or he would be out. what difference does it make whether he's on the 40-man or not?
  9. Yeah, I'm just not a fan of a guy who thinks he's some big protector of the unwritten rules in baseball. The reason they're "unwritten" is mainly because they are mind numbingly stupid. the nature of superstition, but when it's been done that way for so many decades then maybe it should continue. i like that Braden is sticking up for tradition and calling ARod out on it. the same with that fifth-inning bunt attempt--i would have boo'd, too. respect the game by respecting the unwritten rules, even if they are ridiculous.
  10. i didn't see sitting on top of the Green Monster on your list. for 101 things, i'm guessing you're not holding yourself to just the US: the Gran Prix in Montreal is supposed to be an amazing time. i'm sure there's some sorta soccer game in Britain that must be attended. the infield at the Kentucky Derby there's probably some famous cricket grounds in India visiting Field of Dreams Celtics/Lakers game
  11. impossible not to like Griffey, not to mention he was maybe the only power hitter of his generation who didn't juice. i'd love to see Griffey be allowed to have an AB in the All-Star Game, just so he can get a nice ovation on national TV, and then retire the next day. i wonder how much pressure JZ is going to have soon, because it's hard to hold him on a roster--not much call for a .200-hitting platoon DH anymore. i'd only be bad if Griffey was adamant about getting his full year's salary and forced JZ to cut him instead of retire, but it's hard to see Griffey doing that. but even if that happened, i don't think the fans would be too upset about it and would understand.
  12. i know a lot of Park&Rec departments have summer day camps for kids and they all love to hire teachers. i'm gonna have the same problem in two months. i'll need some part-time work because a career-type job is unlikely to come quickly. but i'm guessing even retail or grocery jobs are hard to find right now, too. too bad "student" isn't a career you can collect unemployment for when the work ends.
  13. i agree, it's definitely one of Macha's issues. if we're up by a ton, why not pull Gallardo out an inning earlier, save him from hitting 100 pitches and let Soup throw the rest of the game? Villy, Parra and Vargas are all guys who have demonstrated they can go multiple innings when asked to. if we're up by a lot, there's really no point of sending a guy out there to only pitch one inning.
  14. well, Soup IS the veteran and Parra isn't. i just can't think of any alternative way to order a bullpen except by seniority, can you? i'd love to see Parra tried out in the set-up role, which i think he'd be great at.
  15. i haven't seen any dizzying highs yet, either, but i sincerely hope they're saving that one for late October.
  16. i'd bet that blogs aren't read by the copy editors since they aren't a part of the printed paper. AW probably wrote the thing in a bumpy cab ride back to the hotel (from the bar).
  17. "We're not performing well, but, Ken, I haven't seen him swing at a bad breaking ball yet. I haven't seen him give up two or three runs in an inning." neither did Jerry Royster. and if that's how Doug evaluates managers, then maybe i should start posting more in the "Should we fire Doug Melvin" thread.
  18. i think AJAY has something. it really looked like he instinctually pulled the bat back, but then almost tried to stick his bat out again once he remembered what a suicide squeeze actually is. that said, i don't think i'd even let a high school player get away with that as a valid excuse (not that Byrnes was making any). glad i wasn't Byrnes as he faced his teammates in the locker room after the game. Unlike AJ Pierzinski who is an average player, and a total chatch do i just not know this word, or can this be the new brewerfan non-swear swear word, the way Conan used "krunk"?
  19. thanks for all the advice, everyone. guess i wanted to give an update on the situation. i hadn't been pressing over the question then because i figured things would play out and make the decision easier, and that's happened--like it always does. I contacted a random person in the Parks&Rec Department of Boise (about to graduate into that field) and the girl said "I don't expect any full-time openings for the next three years." I was really leaning on choosing Boise, but that mostly made my decision right there. not to mention my friend there, who i was hoping to be able to hang out with, will be having his first kid in a few months, which means he's never going to have the opportunity to bum around downtown with me. so i think i've got my plan down. i'm heading to Denver to help the brother move in (I also used to live there), will find some work to save money and then head to Austin. i'm sure i'll look for work in Denver, too.
  20. logic tells me that April doesn't matter too much, but it's been tough to hold to that when i see the Brewers lose again. i don't care about the record in April, because i'm looking for some sort of improvement or some sort of sign that they have the potential to be a big shot come August. but i never exactly saw that in April. i wasn't expecting our pitchers to be lights out by any means, but sure wasn't expecting this. the guys we brought in or resigned to be the best have been the worst. at least MaGehee is producing, i guess.
  21. a week until I have my Masters degree four weeks until i paddle the Yukon river six weeks until moving to the other side of the country despite being consequentially broke right now i went to the town despite the cost and man i feel good right now yippieeeee
  22. How does Macha still have a job? Why would you use Suppan in this situation? why would you use Suppan in ANY situation? well, i guess if the team left their jerseys all over the clubhouse floor and they needed to be picked up... we should start a charity raffle for who can correctly predict the first game that Soup comes in, pitches a full inning and doesn't let a single player on base.
  23. a three!! that was awesome. this is fun.
  24. i only remember Parra pitching single innings this year. even though it's for the 14th, i'm surprised he was allowed to bat. nevermind, i guess it's cause we don't have much of a bench left.
  25. if we traded Gerut for Bobby Crosby right NOW, could we use him to pinch hit?
