  1. I don't think we necessarily have to move Yo or Braun in a trade. Melvin has said in interviews he still has Carlos' $12 million to spend if needs be, we have some platoon/backup pieces teams might want, and if Jenkins is included, that's some extra $ room, too. There are still some high-dollar FA's out there, so maybe there are some teams hoping to unload a little money to make a stronger offer for a FA. Maybe we get our bat that way. We got a big bat in Lee for Pods. Why can't we do it again? Granted, that leaves Crawford/Baldelli out of the picture...
  2. If we lose CoCo our bullpen implodes, far worse than what it did last year.
  3. good breakdown, definitely agree. but of course Manny moving would also mean picking up his huge extention, and I'd definitely hope his future salary wouldn't handcuff this team later. But I guess would could just dump him on the Yankees later, right? no way Hall would be moved to the OF if he didn't have to be, and an open CF position would still leave us with some flexibility with our extra OFers. Sure, Manny wouldn't have the almost guaranteed playoff appearance that he would have with the Angels, but what he would have is all the attention of being the difinitive #1 on the team, which he wouldn't get with Ortiz or Vlad around him. It'd be all the attention he wants. Attanasio would get a huge name and a bump in attendance from everyone paying to see him play. Adding him is a very loud "We're trying to win NOW," and it would certainly sell a lot more season tickets.
  4. is ZJ ready for a ML roster spot or does he need to develop more? But I can't think of who else would be a better long reliever. I'd sure love to see Cirillo give it one more year. And I definitely agree with Gwynn making the roster, if for anything but to have some speed off the bench.
  5. I'd be happy with Councell, too, and not just because it's one more draft pick to display Jack Z's brillance at evaluating players. As good a guy as Councell is, no doubt he'd be super-motivated to come back here and redeem himself over his last visit.
  6. nice job on putting that all together, although I've got this feeling when DM gets through the Winter Meetings that the locker room is going to need a ton of new nameplates.
  7. I suppose I'm not totally against trading Bill Hall, just from a trade-high philosophy, but what makes me sad about the thought of it all is that it feels like we've regressed two years to where we're trading away our marquee players for building blocks.
  8. Would it be worth overpaying for prospects, though? Jenkins+Bush+Hardy?
  9. Couldn't agree more that his defense in CF is at the very best, average, if even that. I'm just thinking that he fits so well with what we need offensively, that it would still be a net plus for our team. I'm done thinking that we're going to get any stud CFer, there's none of those left. So for the available players remaining, I think he's the best of the rest (naturally it assumes we don't just platoon the players we already have).
  10. ....and Weeks in CF, at his potential, would make him closer to an above-average CFer instead of the Sandberg-type superstar that he could turn out to be at 2nd base. Plus offensive numbers often tend to dip when a young player has to learn a new position, and why would we want that? Keep Weeks at 2nd!
  11. It kinda sounds like trading Hall to get Doug Davis and Eveland back.
  12. Why not pring Po back? Hart and Hall both have the speed to make up ground that Po can't cover with his defense, we could have a veteran guy hitting leadoff and then move Weeks down to a more offensive slot, and he'd steal bases for us. And if he could indeed be had for Jenkins and his contract, we'd be dumping a big salary, too. Kinda seems like a win-win to me.
  13. His bat more than outweighs his Mench-esque defense, though. Of course he would probably demand another 2/$38 tacked to the back of his contract, and that's definitely tough to swallow. We'd end up like ARod's Rangers, pinning all our hopes to one player. I don't know, with his contract suddenly palpable (gasp!), I'd bet a team like the Angels could totally outbid us for Manny. No doubt he'd rather play in Anaheim, anyway. They'd just dangle Santana out there and we can't can't match that or their money.
  14. "I'm thinkin' he might lead the NL in home runs as a Brewer" ......or as a Pirate, or Giant, or Cardinal, or Marlin.......
  15. I don't know anything about Michaels or Guthrie, but that seems more like a win-next-year trade, and I don't see Milwaukee fans or Attanasio putting up with that. And with Melvin needing more power bats in the lineup, I don't know how we could afford to trade Hall for more pitching. Of course I like Hall a ton, but then his stock couldn't really get much higher than it is now, so maybe Hall for a couple awesome even-younger guys might be a strong Beane-style move. I'd definitely be happy with Clark for an average bullpen guy, we don't exactly need a 3rd CFer with Gross as an option (if that's good or bad) at the position. Why would Weeks be untouchable? If we could extend Hall's contract (he'd sure command a big price), he could just as easily play 2nd (or most any position for that matter). Don't know why we'd trade a prospect for a prospect, though.
